Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

Energy

'Energy' refers to the amount of energy that a pokemon expends during battle in order to perform their moves. This is the equivalent of PP, but this system is adapted to relate more to a realistic roleplay-centric system, rather than a video game limit. An individual pokemon's energy is tracked similar to health; however their max energy scales based on their level. This provides more grounds for higher level pokemon to be able to complete more powerful and a higher quantity of moves than lower level pokemon. This relates only to pokemon moves that are used - That is to say, creative actions that aren't from the pokemon's movepool (running, positioning, using an item, etc.) will not effect the pokemon's energy level for that battle.

Energy Limit

For the sake of clarity, we're going to count "100%" energy as being how much energy a Pokemon has when they have just about reached sexual maturity (lvl 15). When they're young, the energy increases very quickly. As they mature, but are still growing a little bit (around lvl 15-25), this increase slows down. Once they are fully adult, energy increase slows even further. Once a Pokemon is lvl 20, you can do a quick approximation of how much their maximum energy is by adding 100 to their level and rounding down to a multiple of 5. Note that this number will be wrong if you've used other methods to increase energy, as detailed below.

◒ PP Increasing Items

Each PP Up gives the pokemon +5%, and PP Max gives the pokemon +15%. You cannot gain more than 15% energy from any combination of PP Up's and PP Max on a single pokemon.

◒ Training

Training devs can be done to increase a pokemon's energy limit by 5%. You cannot gain more than 15% energy from training a single pokemon. This is similar to training a Pokemon to learn a new move, but slightly less specific since you should be focusing on training the Pokemon's endurance and overall strength up rather than any particular technique.

This means the maximum energy a Pokemon can have is 230%.

Energy Cost

In general, a move's energy cost relates to the power behind that move. For every 5 Power a move has, it costs 1 additional energy, so take the Power of a move and divide it by 5 to get the energy required. Moves that don't have a power or change based on certain circumstances will have special rules on energy calculation. Here are some examples of basic damaging moves:
Tackle (40 Power) costs 8% energy
Shockwave (60 Power) costs 12% energy
Flamethrower (90 Power) costs 18% energy

For variable power moves, it is usually right in the middle of the range.
Rollout costs 18% each time you use it.
Night Shade costs 9%.
Low Kick costs 14%.
Magnitude costs 14%

If the move has a condition that must be met in order to double the power, the cost will depend on whether or not you've met the condition. Using the lower power version of the move will cost energy the way a simple damaging move does. For example, Hex has 65 Power, so it will cost 13% energy. Using the higher power version of the move will cost 1.5x the amount of energy needed for the lower power version. We've included some examples below.

Weather Ball 50 power (costs 10% energy, or 15% energy)
Whirlpool 35 power (costs 7% energy, or 11% energy)

◒ Stat Modifiers

Moves that change a Pokemon's status by +/- 1 cost 5% energy
Moves that change a Pokemon's status by +/- 2 cost 7% energy
Moves that change a Pokemon's status by +/- 3 cost 9% energy
Moves that change a Pokemon's status by +/- 4 cost 11% energy
Moves that change a Pokemon's status by +/- 5 cost 13% energy
Moves that change a Pokemon's status by +/- 6 cost 15% energy (This includes Belly Drum.)

◒ Healing and Draining

Healing moves cost energy equal to half the amount healed. Ex: Wish heals 50% of a Pokemon's health, so it would cost 25% to use. Healing moves that heal 1/16 damage every turn (Ingrain, Aqua Ring, Leech Seed) cost 13% energy.

Damaging moves that also heal cost the amount based on the power, plus half of what would normally be healed. Here's a handy-dandy list:
Draining Kiss: 50 Power, 22% energy
Giga Drain: 75 Power, 25% energy
Leech Life: 80 Power, 26% energy
Mega Drain: 40 Power, heals 50% damage done; 15% energy
Drain Punch: 75 Power, heals 50% damage done; 25% energy

Here's an example on calculating the energy:
Absorb: 20 Power, heals 50% of damage done
20 power = 4% energy cost
20 power = 18% damage dealt on average, so 9% health returned on average
healing 9% health costs 5% energy
Absorb's total energy cost = 9% energy

◒ Other

Moves that inflict a status effect (burn, paralyze, confusion) cost 13% Energy. (Ex: Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave)

Terrain moves, weather moves, and Gravity cost 20% Energy.

Moves that copy or use another move will spend the energy for the used move, as well as an additional 5% Energy. (Ex: Metronome, Copy Cat, Mimic)

Barrier moves like Light Screen, Reflect, and Magic Coat cost 10% energy

Similar-to-status-inducing moves (Psycho Shift, Encore, Disable) cost 13% energy

Moves that multi hit will cost energy equal to the average power of the move, rounded up to the nearest 5.

◒ Special Exceptions/Moves

Rest uses energy equal to half of what it healed, but your Pokemon will be comatose for 3 entire rounds (posts of yours). They can wake up on your 4th post.

Perish Song requires 50% Energy to use. (And will cause any Pokémon involved in the battle that hears it to lose a large amount of HP and most likely faint.)

Sketch does not cost any energy.

Helping Hand costs 10% energy.

Counter uses the base power from the moved being countered, and functions as a move that doubles power.

Bide will cost energy according on the base power of EACH move that it absorbs, multiplied by 1.5 like moves that double power.

Self-destruct & Explosion will drain the user of all energy in addition to using up all health to faint.

Flail should be calculated based on the current power. Reference Bulbapedia and the user's health to determine the base power when used.

◒ Repetitive Moves

Using the same exact move over and over again will get increasingly tiring. For each time you use a move consecutively, there is an increasing cost unless the Pokemon knows less than 5 moves. Specifically, the move costs extra energy equal to how many times it has been used consecutively. (+2% the second time, +3% the third time, and so on.)

This also applies to repetitively using the same two attacks over and over. For example: repeatedly alternating between Growth and Razor Leaf. Use your best judgement and, as always, feel free to ask if you are uncertain.

◒ Multiple Moves in a Single Turn

Using multiple moves in a single turn is difficult and will cost more energy, as well. Using a second move in a single turn will cost an additional 2% energy. Using a third move in a single turn will cost an additional 3% energy (this will stack for a total of 5% energy spent).

◒ Moves Which Lower Energy

Grudge - Costs 10% energy to use. This attack will take away energy equal to the amount of energy that was used up by the move that fainted the Pokemon (Will not lower it past 0%).
What if you use Grudge and then don't faint? Well, your opponent doesn't lose their energy. However, you still use 10% energy.
Note: Yes, this can be power-played. Yes, we are watching. Don't do that. If your character or Pokemon is experienced enough to recognize the move, then sure. Otherwise, you can't just be like "I'm gonna conveniently not attack this turn lol".

Spite - Costs the same amount of energy that it takes away from the target. Takes away energy equal to the cost of the move last used by the opponent.
Ex: If your opponent used Flamethrower (18% energy), using Spite will cost 18% energy and will take away 18% energy from your opponent.

Pressure - Takes away a fraction of whatever the move being used costs, with a minimum of 1%. The move being used will use the energy for said move, plus 20% of the total move cost. You can multiply the cost by .2 in a calculator to find out what the extra cost is.
Ex: If your opponent used a move that costs 30, they now must spend 36 because of your Pressure ability.

Running Out of Energy

There are a couple ways a pokemon could run out of energy - Mainly, by using it up in battle or by having it drained by another pokemon. Moves that would reduce PP in the games drain energy, so be sure to keep in mind that your pokemon could lose additional energy from certain attacks. Once you are out of energy, the assumption is your pokemon is exhausted from the battle.

But you can actually still attack! However, this comes at a price. Namely, your Pokémon will begin using their health points to execute the moves instead. This can be dangerous though, beyond just the danger of straining your Pokémon too hard.

Note: You cannot use health points to execute healing moves. Sorry, no loopholes here!

Each time your pokemon consumes health in place of energy to use a move, there will be a chance of your pokemon sustaining a major injury in addition to using up health. The roll for injury will occur before the move takes place and the health % is deducted.

If the pokemon at 100 to 90% health when they use a move without having enough energy: 8% chance of injury
If 89 to 80: 15% chance of injury
If 79 to 70: 23% chance injury
If 69 to 60: 30% chance injury
If 59 to 50: 38% chance injury
If 49 to 40: 45% chance injury
If 39 to 30: 53% chance injury
If 29 to 20: 60% chance injury
If 19 to 10: 68% chance injury
If 9 to 0: 75% chance injury

Regenerating Energy

There are two ways that your pokemon will regain spent energy: Resting or Elixirs. For simplicity, we've combined ether and elixir into one, and adjusted the calculations to the energy system to function similarly to how potions restore health. Elixirs work immediately for energy gain, while resting requires that the pokemon spend a certain amount of time out of battle. Depending on what activity they are doing in the interim (walking, running, sleeping, etc.) their energy regeneration will change accordingly.

Energy gained from elixirs is as follows:
Elixir: 30%
Super Elixir: 60%
Hyper Elixir: 90%
Max Elixir: 150%

For your Pokemon to regain energy naturally, particularly between battles, we will use the following table.

In a pokeball:
30 minutes after the battle: regains 25% max energy.
1 hour after battle: regained 45% max energy.
2 hours after battle: regained 60% max energy.
4 hours after battle: regained 85% max energy.
8 hours after battle: energy fully restored.

Being carried: (1.5x the time)
45 minutes after the battle: regains 25% max energy.
1.5 hour after battle: regained 45% max energy.
3 hours after battle: regained 60% max energy.
6 hours after battle: regained 85% max energy.
12 hours after battle: energy fully restored.

Walking along trainer: (2x time)
1 hour after battle: regained 25% max energy.
2 hour after battle: regained 45% max energy.
4 hours after battle: regained 60% max energy.
8 hours after battle: regained 85% max energy.
16 hours after battle: energy fully restored.

Carrying a load (mount or helping move stuff):
No Energy regain.

Autumn, Day 58, Approx. 8:30am

[#SEB SPOTLIGHT! This dev is for Seb's evolution from a Scatterbug into a Spewpa, some loyalty, and a bit of experience if deemed appropriate. I'm planning a bit of training in the midst of this, but we'll see what happens.]

It started out, and would continue to be, a rather average day in all. The family was all out within in the home which she was staying for the time, so kindly lent to her while the traders who lived here were on a trip. They were spending some time in Crater City to sell their goods and proclaim some things that didn't make it to the forest very often, or for a very good price. She sat in a chair, the little compact mirror with her name flipped open, shining her bright smile back at her as her fingers fiddled with her hair carefully.

It was always important to make herself look good before going out. And she so appreciated the opportunity to get ready inside a house, rather than outside. She was fine living outside if needed on occasion, but it certainly wasn't her preferred living. Until she found a new home however, she bounced between houses of those willing to let her stay for a few days here and there at a time. This helped her socialize more and keep relationships positive, so she didn't mind. Though the peace of being alone with her family was always nice from time to time.

Of course, she wasn't able to get through her morning preparations before the silly bug was over, bumping his head against her leg. She giggled, ad he released a 'buh' customary to requesting pets. Though, it sounded a tad off, she didn't think too much of it. Perhaps he was still shaking off the morning sleepiness. Carefully removing her hands from her thick curls, she leaned over and extended her arms. "Here, why don't you come up here with me." Gently, she wrapped her fingers around the scatterbug and lifted him up. She set him in her lap, the compact sitting on a table in front of them.

Meeting his demands, she started to pat him on his head. As she did so, her hand and eyes started to drift to his collar. In all the time she's had the bug, she'd known his collar of fur to only grow so long. It was pretty constant and sure. But for some reason, it almost seemed a bit longer than usual. Maybe she was just imagining it. She lifted the fur for a better look, and noticed something odd. There were the beginnings of bristles of white fur. Was his fur spreading a bit? Or did some of it get torn?

No, the woman was sure she could have noticed if his fur got torn or cut. "You planning on growing a bit more hair, huh? That will only make you look cuter!" She spoke in her bubbly tone as ever, though she was a bit puzzled by the change. But it was minuscule. There wasn't a need to worry over it obsessively. Besides, extra fur was good, right? They were about to move into the cold season after all. She returned to her petting for a couple more moments before returning her attention to her hair and face.

After sorting out and organizing her curls as she wanted to, making them look nice and even and not so frizzy, she would move on to her makeup. She leaned, pulling out the berry concoctions with her different hues to add to her face. Pulling it out meant getting the attention of Eli of course, which wasn't a problem by any means. "Yes yes, I know you'll want to decorate Seb for the day. Just don't go too crazy, okay?" She cocked her head at the espurr while holding the little container of paste, the espurr nodding in agreement even if she didn't really understand the words. She just knew that's what she had to do for the human to give her the paint!

Shae chuckled and handed one of the containers to the feline, who immediately whined while looking up at Seb. Normally he was quicker to move, but he seemed less willing for some reason. "Oh Seb, I hope you slept well. If not, I'll make sure you get some time to nap later, I promise." She pet him affectionately, before lifting to set him on the ground, leaving him to the espurr. In the meantime, she returned to her face, opening the other container and rubbing a tad of the makeshift paste between her fingers, looking deeply into the mirror as she brought them up to her face to apply.

Still groggy, the scatterbug grumbled as he left the woman, having been placed on the floor. "Come ooooon!! It's time to get you all fancy and ready for the day! I absolutely can't wait a single moment loonger!" The bug groaned dramatically. He liked being decorated, as it made him feel like he was closer to being a vivillon with beautiful wings. But he was just so tired today... "Maybe we could just skip today. I need more sleep." His head hung a little lower as he said it, but to no one's surprise he wasn't able to deter her so easily.

The espurr gasped, a little choked mew escaping from her throat as she did so. "Not get ready for the day? Preposterous! I have to make you look perfect! Just like how the human makes herself look perfect every day. It's art! You can't stifle good art!" There was a clear scoff across the room, the grumble very clearly from the dog who disagreed fervently with the opinion that the espurr's mess could be called art. She ignored him. "Fine fine. Just do your thing so I can get some sleep before she decides to leave the house please." She meowed in joy and hopped a bit. "I'll have you looking gorgeous in a matter of minutes! Super fast and super pretty!"

The scatterbug lifted his head and allowed her to get to work, though she quickly noticed the same as Seb. "Oh! You're growing more fur! That's so exciting. It means I'll have more to decorate." She set to staining the pricks of new white fur with the dark colored concoction. Seb would have rolled his eyes if he could. He wasn't growing more fur, that was just silly. He had just as much fur as he always did. It wouldn't just start growing randomly.

Resting in the dark-skinned woman's arms, the yellow mouse squeaked in joy and awe as they headed towards the treeline. This was the first time she was going to see outside the city! The baby was incomprehensibly excited, though partially due to just her age. Nonetheless, the little pichu wiggled and pushed, pulling herself out of the grip from the woman's arms to her chest. She wasn't about to jump off, as the distance to the ground was too scary, and she didn't want to try to walk on her own just yet. But she could stand on her human's arms and get a better view!

The new pokemon's ears flopped as she looked around, side to side and up to down. Shae giggled a bit as she did so, having wiggled so much just to get a different view. This was her first trip into the forest since the pichu had hatched, and she wanted to let her experience a nice walk.Well, she hoped it would be a nice walk anyway. The forest tended to be unpredictable, even among the common path she used to pick berries. The wild creatures inhabiting the forest were always moving and shifting, which meant that any area could potentially be a bit dangerous. But she was confident in her family's ability to protect themselves and the baby.

To that effect, she had two others out and with her as she walked down the trail into the trees. To her right side, walking as if properly trained but actually just having grace and manners, was the furfrou. He held his head high, taking confident strides and maximizing the motion. It had been a while since they'd had a proper excursion into the forest. He was glad for the opportunity to enjoy a stroll with the human. He was, of course, still unsure about his feelings on her. However, she was very good about grooming him often, and he'd grown very fond of her keeping him clean. He could, of course, clean himself, but having her do it so willingly was much easier.

Riding in the bag carefully along her hip was the large pumpkin ghost, who was much more fond of the human, though still unsure about sticking around as often as she did. Still, this human did keep her promise of keeping her special treasure safe and nearby, and the new treasures she had were great too! Everything in the bag was a new interesting thing the human introduced to her, and she was glad that her love of new and shiny things was appreciated and fed. The woman seemed to always be finding fresh ad exciting things to investigate and, though the ghost was still shy among the others, was starting to warm up to the kind human.

The pumpkaboo shifting and made an odd noise, which grabbed Shae's attention. She smiled, patting the head of the ghost. People around town were a bit antsy about the pumpkin, so she tried to avoid exposing the shy pokemon to them much. She didn't seem to like be social too much as it was, she really didn't want to expose her to any judgement from people who don't understand her soft personality. She dug her hand into the bag, finding the shiny penny and pulling it out. She held it in from of the pumpkin for a few seconds, until the ghost relaxed a bit and trilled with appreciation before placing it back in, the pumpkaboo shifting her feet to take stock of the items inside the bag.

She shifted her arms to be more comfortable, making sure not to bother the pichu much as they headed a bit further into the forest via the path, hoping that nothing would pop out. But, if something did, she knew they could handle themselves and get through it. Though she really would appreciate having a peaceful stroll with her pokemon. Freeing up her opposite arm by letting the mouse settle on her left, she reached down and pet the dog walking at her side gently, so as not to mess up his fur much. He did care about his appearance after all.

Hey Terrene!

I kind of aluded to it a bit in the cbox, but here's the official 'I'm taking a trip and won't be able to post' post!

I'll be most likely unreachable from right after work on Friday 4/27, until Monday 4/30. I'll technically be back home on sunday night, but it won't likely be until like 11pm, so even if I log in there's a 95% chance I won't be posting ehehe.

I'm trying to get everything caught up before then, but either way it's only a few days so I'm sure you guys will be fine~~ I'll be sure to take pictures!
