Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

This battle is taking place in Crater's outskirts, just outside the wall. This area is usually a farm, but is currently cleared of crops so it is simply an empty field of loose dirt. Stacks of mudbricks, about a foot high and two feet long, have been placed throughout the field to be used as potential cover or potential weapons for the battling Pokemon. Feel free to use your environment to your advantage. Good luck, combatants! The deadline for this round is June 22nd.

Ivan

@Amissa

Arriving to the next round's location, Ivan had his pokemon waiting by the sidelines. He would have loved to use the others but Grimm was his best bet. The pokemon was sinister and enjoyed harming others. Whatever opponent he was facing with the ghost, the man stood in the battlefield, waiting for the stranger to approach.

The duskull eyed their surroundings, noticing spectators. This would surely be fun to have an audience. The last match went so well and he couldn't wait to meet his new torture victim. He hoped it was something tiny and timid. They were the easier to terrify. Something bigger would be a challenge though and he would be up for that as well.

Soren walked Genesis over to the new battlefield with her harness and lead rope. She'd had enough time to rest after the last battle, and she hadn't taken any damage in the last fight. They were in all together pretty high spirits. The area they were battling in was actually one of the neighboring farms. Stacks of bricks littered the field, which Genesis noted with some irritation. They weren't high enough to hide her or even provide much cover, but they would certainly be a trip hazard.

Soren unhooked Genesis's harness while looking over at his opponent. It was a large intimidating looking man, possibly more intimidating even than Avery but in an entirely different way. He wore heavy dark clothing in the middle of the summer, and he had green glaring eyes. The pokemon beside him thougth, made Soren's eyes go wide. "Oh, it's a ghost!" Soren cried in delight. He'd never seen a real ghost, but he'd heard awful stories about them. He loved ghost stories, and here he was seeing a real live (dead?) ghost! Quickly, Soren rifled through his memory for what he knew about ghost pokemon. Honestly not a lot. But he knew they passed through solid objects and so normal type moves wouldn't affect them.

Wait, there was one skill that Genesis had that might counter that weakness. The ambassador had written about it and given it to him for study. Odor sleuth! Genesis could use her acute sense of smell to locate the ghost. Using that method, she could strike a ghost pokemon before it could faze out of existence. Theoretically, anyway. Soren had never seen her use such a technique. He only knew about it at all because of the ambassador's help.

"Genesis," Soren leaned over and spoke into the girafarig's pointed ear like he was whispering a secret to his best friend. They were still at matching heights, and Genesis leaned closer to hear him better. "Once the battle begins, you need to use odor sleuth." Too bad he'd never taught her that command. Genesis was still learning human language, and this new instruction made no sense to her. She must have looked blank because Soren tried to explain better. "Odor Sleuth," he said again, very slowly and then he touched his nose with one index finger. Then he touched hers. Then he pointed across the battlefield to the ghost.

Ah, indeed, sniffing the ghost out might be a good strategy. Of course, she had her own ideas. She would keep Soren's advice in mind, as it didn't seem completely idiotic. She hoped this wasn't a step in the direction of him shouting foolish instructions at her while she was busy in combat the way other trainers seemed to do their pokemon. Genesis nodded, dipping her chin slightly the way she'd seen humans do to each other in positive affirmation. Soren's eyes widened in shock at such a human display of sign language.

Genesis didn't wait for Soren to recover from his surprise. She strode out onto the battlefield and watched her opponent expectantly. She did not look afraid, only curious. "Hello, my name is Soren. And I'll be using my pokemon, Genesis for this match. Again." Soren's voice sounded much less friendly and much more robotic as he introduced himself for the match this time. He was a little bit scared. This man didn't look friendly, and ghosts were unpredictable. It was impossible to tell exactly what it might do.

Ivan

@Amissa

Ivan watched his opponent and their pokemon approach the battlefield. This was an oddly shaped one with its long neck sinister looking face on its tail. The man was curious what thing could do but also interested in getting one for himself.

He wasn't expecting to be facing off against a child but if the boy had made it this far then he had to have some skill. Ivan looked down at Soren with emotionless eyes as the boy introducted himself robotically. Ivan remained silent for a moment before his face cracked into a wide grin.

"Relax kid, I'm just a simple trainer, like you," Ivan cooed. "My name is Ivan and I'll be using my partner here."

As he spoke the duskull floated to his side, giving the boy and his pokemon a shot of his glowing red eye. Grimm only coughed in reaction to the children.

"Yes, well said," Ivan replied to the ghost.

As soon as Soren and Genesis were ready. Grimm rushed ahead sending out a wave od dark energy at the girafarig.

Soren smiled back at Ivan, looking a shy and very sweet. Ivan's reassurance worked, and Soren was mentally berating himself for making a judgement of the man based on looks alone. He was probably a perfectly nice worker. He said he was just like Soren, and the boy could see his brand. Ivan spoke as if he understood what his pokemon was saying, which was interesting. Were there people who could understand pokemon like that? Soren wondered what would happen if he pet the ghost. Would his hand simply pass through it?

He didn't get much time to frolic down that idle train of thought as soon the battle began in earnest. Right away, the ghost sent a terrifying pulse of black energy towards Genesis. The girafarig had no chance to dodge or escape. She was just as surprised as anyone by the attack. The pain that ripped through her as it hit wasn't quite physical either. She didn't suffer from any horrifying bloody wounds or even any bruising. The damage was something mental. No, even that wasn't right. It was like it tore at the soul inside her. It filled her heart with dread until it was so painful it felt like it might break. It must have been a dark type attack, the way it went straight to where she was most vulnerable.

Genesis dug in her hooves in the dirt and swayed bit like the impact of the attack might knock her over, but it didn't. She didn't make a sound, but she did close her eyes and sniff. She inhaled deeply, identifying the ghost's scent with her odor sleuth skill. It was faint, and possibly no human would detect it, but it was the smell of death itself. It smelled of decay, and it was quite distinct from every other scent around. It would be easy to track.

When she opened her eyes again, she looked at the ghost with fierce determination. She concentrated and wiggled her ossicones, unleashing her confusion attack.

Ivan

@Amissa

Grimm cackled as his attack struck the giraffe. It looked like it was drained already and he was pretty sure it was going to quit. He could easily attack again it was down but he wanted to see it fight back. The duskull had to know what it could do.

Ivan watched, making no expression. His eyes only following the pokemon's movements and Genesis dealt with the effects of the dark pulse. He lightly rolled his eyes, feeling a bit disappointed. The man expected more and it appeared as if this was going to be over pretty quickly.

Before the man could open his mouth to warn the boy about continuing, the girafarig was able to pull through. Ivan refocused as well as Grimm. The ghost chuckled as he watched Genesis ready herself to retaliate.

"That's it, show me what you can do," Grimm croaked.

Unsure of what she was doing, Grimm was unprepared for the psychic force that rattled his mind. "W-what are you doing?" he groaned. It was as if his vision was blurring and the room was suddenly shaking. The ghost some how managed to pull through the confusion and send off another pulse of dark energy. "Stay out of my mind!"

Genesis glared at Grimm. She didn't normally give herself over to emotions. She didn't much care for them or the way others allowed them to override common sense and proper reasoning. However, she felt such malevolence from this foe that it struck a chord in her. It frightened her, yes, but more than that it made her furious. How dare he? How dare he fill her with terror in an attempt to overpower her mind?

Thus, there was a feeling of deep satisfaction as Grimm commanded her to stop. "No," she hummed fiercely. Now that she knew he hated it, she'd use confusion nonstop if she got the chance. Unfortunately, that chance was not to be.

Another wave of dark pulse slammed into her. Still, she didn't cry out. She made just the softest grunt of pain. She was not one for showy displays of suffering. Her knees buckled, and her legs folded beneath her. She stubbornly tried to keep her head up. Even if her legs didn't work, she could still fight with the power of her mind alone. She stared at the duskull, glaring, trying to work up her concentration for another attack. However, her vision blurred and then went completely black.

"Genesis!" Soren cried, feeling cold panic as Genesis appeared to lie in the middle of the field as if she'd suddenly fallen asleep. Or died. Soren ran onto the field, leaping over the brick obstacles and threw his arms around the girafarig protectively. "Stop it, no more!" Soren looked up at Ivan with tears in his eyes. He could still feel Genesis's pulse through her neck. She was alive, but she barely seemed to be breathing. Soren fumbled for her pokeball, turning to glare at the ghost with the one red eye. "That's enough, you stop it!" Soren's voice was low in warning even though there was absolutely nothing he could do to stop the ghost if it decided it wanted to hurt Genesis further. Soren found Genesis's pokeball and recalled her.

Ivan

@Amissa

The ghost was so proud of himself. The girafarig went down so easily. He didn't understand how she could believe she stood a chance. Perhaps it was her young age. Maybe arrogance? With Genesis seeming like she was unable to battle, the ghost floated over to the pokemon. Her trainer called for the fight to stop. Soren had tears in his eyes as Ivan looked down at him. The man felt no empathy but for some reason, he couldn't find any satisfaction in having the duskull finish off the giraffe.

Grimm hovered over Genesis' body as Soren held her. The boy shouted some words but he could care less what he had to say. He was going to mess with her mind the way, she did him. Grimm readied himself to use night shade but there was a sudden jet of energy that shot him in the back. "WHAT?" the ghost shrieked. "DO NOT DENY ME MY REVENGE!" The duskull's voice vibrated through the area.

The beam of energy covered the ghost in red as it absorbed him into his container. The pokeball in Ivan's hand locked as Grimm was sucked in. The tall man approached the boy and his pokemon. "Don't cry boy. Tears are for the weak," the man cooed before heading off. The battle was over but not the tournament. He'd be preparing along with his pokemon for the next round.
