Avaline Robyn Merigold
74 - Female - Heterosexual
AppearanceAvaline, despite her wrinkles and her gray hair, is very fit for her age. She has some muscle on her that isn’t sagging and has very few liver spots. Her gray eyes are a little weak, so she wears bifocals to compensate for that. Her ears, on the other hand, are very keen when it comes to hearing and they are a little on the large side. Her wavy gray hair is cut short and the front of it frames her forehead. She’s a little on the bony side and is very short, only 4’6”.
Due to her traveling so much, the clothing she chose for herself was made for such a task. Her long white socks reach just below her knees and she wears black boots that don’t allow water to get in. She wears dull forest green snow pants on top of loose fitting men’s jeans. She also wears light, white long sleeved shirt with a wool knit sweater that is a burgundy color with forest green zigzags in the middle of it, much like a Kecleon’s marking. Over that she wears a black hooded parka that she usually wears during winter.

PersonalityAvaline, despite being an old lady, is an active sort of gal. There isn’t a minute that goes by when she’s not doing something, usually jogging or doing some sort of activity like knitting and gardening. Despite her memory loss, she can remember things in great detail. The sentence of a conversation, the details of the shop she rarely visits, she remembers it all and it bothers her that she is unable to remember important things after being dragged into Terrene. She get increasingly frustrated by this fact and is a bit of a sore spot for her.
The old lady is a stubborn, tough old thing. She hadn’t made it this far in life by letting things go by without much thought to it. Rather, she’s a survivor and uses the skills she acquired as she grew older and older into daily life as best as she can. She can be blunt at times and has a mean temper when her buttons are pushed. At times, one can see her become a little melancholy, mostly when she thinks about children and grandchildren.
Yet despite all that, Avaline is a kind and caring individual. Though she’s alone, she’s very social and likes to talk about trivial things like the weather. She loves giving little gifts to the younger generation, whether it be candy or something she knitted. She actively helps her community and is courteous to all she meets, which can surprise people when she says something bluntly. All in all, she’s sweet, caring, but tough.
HistoryAvaline Robyn Merigold was born in the Sevii Islands to a poor woodcutter and his wife. She grew up quickly, literally. It seemed she aged at a faster rate than most babies and children, going from crawling to tottering on her feet in an instant. Her parents were worried by the fact that she grew up so quickly compared to the other children she played with and feared that she might age too fast and become an old lady in a few years’ time. Thankfully, she stopped her ridiculous aging when she was hitting puberty and began to age normally like the other kids, much to her parents’ relief.
Not all the chaos going on within the world was bad. One day, while Avaline’s father was out chopping trees, he noticed a strange glow coming from one of the trees. Curious, he began to cut his axe into the tree. Each time he swung, bits of gold nuggets would spew out and soon enough, after the tree was felled, he had a pile of gold to take home. Taking everything, he quickly ran back home to tell his wife and daughter what had just happened.
With the gold they accumulated, they were able to move to the mainland of Kanto and find better jobs. While her mother became a secretary for one of the big companies, her father became a shrewd merchant, making sure that his family would be well provided for just like he did as a woodcutter. They lived a fairly comfortable life after that and Avaline, for the first time, was able to attend school.
School life was a little harsh for her. Because she was initially illiterate and had no concept of numbers, she was bullied a lot for being “dumb.” She fought back, though, not once shrinking away from the unkind words and the occasional fight. Due to her great memory, she was able to retain the information and quickly caught up with the other students, sometimes outperforming them. She had few friends due to the bullying, but the few friends she had she treasured with all her heart.
She was able to graduate high school and go to a prestigious college with her parents’ money. There, she met the love of her life, Yanma Kokei. He was the first to approach her, all smiles and laughs as he talked rapidly to the baffled girl. But she grew to love his company, his smiles, his laughs, as time went on. They stuck together whenever they could in between classes and hanging out with their friends, the two of them falling in love as time went on. The minute they graduated college, the two of them decided to get married. Although her parents, especially her father, were wary of the marriage, they nonetheless accepted it and soon the two were wed.
Yanma became a doctor and took medical school to reach his goal while Avaline herself became a historian, using her great memory to catalogue things and record important information. Due to the nature of the chaos going on around them, things changed quickly so the need to record history was on high demand. Besides, who would be there to remember if the chaos destroyed everything? Avaline wanted to remember and kept the records straight as the world collapsed around them.
Shortly after their marriage, the young woman became pregnant with their first child, Dulles. It was love at first sight when she held her baby in her arms for the first time. She vowed to give him a good life, despite everything going wrong in the world. As Dulles gained new siblings, twins Kina and Lola and little Naomi, she found that keeping up with her work and her children was taxing. She never complained, though, for it was worth it seeing her children’s smiling faces. As she grew older and her children started to live on their own, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of longing, though she wasn’t sure what.
Dulles eventually married his own wife and had a child, Nina. Nina was a sweet little baby and, just like with Dulles, she fell in love with the baby and wanted to protect her. But they couldn’t escape the chaos forever. Earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, wildfires, natural disasters seemed to be upheaving Kanto and leaving a complete mess in its wake. Not only that, but to her family the situation became worse. Her parents both died due to a tornado, her husband was caught in a distortion in space and was never seen again, while her children one by one also disappeared, their whereabouts unknown. And Nina, her poor granddaughter, was left alone.
Avaline decided to quit her job as a historian and travel around Kanto in search of her missing children. Taking with her Nina, the two of them traveled around Kanto in search of her children. She ended up traveling the world in search of her children, each time finding a clue of their whereabouts before coming up with a dead end. But she wasn’t going to give up. She didn’t make it this far without a spine and she wanted to do whatever it took to find her missing children.
Little did she know, however, that she would never see her children again. While staying with an old couple who looked after her granddaughter while she searched around outside, she was caught in a freak thunderstorm and a tree fell down on her, pinning her to the ground. She knew she wasn’t going to get any help and her final thoughts in her homeworld were of her granddaughter and how she was going to be alone from now on.
