Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

This battle takes place just within Crater's outside wall, on the southwest side. It is a simple dirt road, just wide enough for an average wagon to pass through. There are houses on one side, and the wall on the other. The wall is approximately seven feet high, and the houses just a bit taller. Feel free to use your environment to your advantage. Good luck, combatants! The deadline for this round is June 13th.

[[Jinn and I agreed to go modless for this battle.]]

Soren was the first to reach the designated arena, which was no surprise since it wasn't too far from his own home and he knew the city of Crater as well or better than he knew himself. He'd spent his life here, exploring the alleys and streets whenever possible. Even so, he wasn't exactly well-known. He was only a branded worker, and not anyone important. Still, the tournament was an exciting event in Crater City and Soren had homefield advantage.

Soren blushed and smiled shyly at the onlookers as he took his position. There were several cheers and some applauding, though Soren couldn't make out any familiar faces. Even if they didn't know his name, he was still one of Crater City's own. He was branded, and part of Beta's hierarchy. These others who'd come to the city for the tournament were outsiders, and they needed to be shown the strength of this city's citizens. Even if he was at the bottom of the hierarchy, it was certainly better than not having a place at all.

Soren really wanted to represent his city well, but he was still pretty scared about battling. He hated seeing pokemon get hurt, especially his own pokemon. Looking up, he could see people watching from the windows of the houses on one side. It must be a great view, but he didn't think he'd like to be in the audience watching two poor pokemon savage each other until one fainted or conceded. He only battled at all because he wanted to become stronger, and he wanted his pokemon to grow stronger too. Even if battling was hard and he didn't like it, he hoped that he and his pokemon might eventually grow strong enough to protect the home he loved so much.

Soren looked up at the people leaning out of windows and watching from the shade provided by the nearby wall and the buildings on the other side, and he gave a wave and lifted his cap slightly so that his brand could clearly be seen. Then there was nothing left to do but call out his pokemon and wait for his opponent to arrive. "Genesis, come out," Soren called as he tapped the button on his girafarig's pokeball. Genesis was revealed in a flash of light and stood in the center of the arena in the hot sunlight.

The girafarig surveyed her surroundings with a curious but certainly not frightened gaze. It was strange to have so many eyes upon her. They all seemed to have such expectancy in their looks. What did they want from her? She looked back at Soren, and her young trainer gave her an encouraging smile. "It's okay, girl. Don't be scared. I know there's a lot of people around, huh? We're going to have a battle soon whenever our opponent arrives, but you can just relax until then." Soren kept his voice easy and light. He didn't want Genesis to be nervous about being watched.

Genesis, for her part, barely understood a word of what the boy said to her. Luckily, she was intelligent enough to reason out what was going on based on the words that she did know and her current situation. She expected that she was about to engage in a battle for sport. It was one of the most barbaric activities humans engaged in, pitting pokemon against pokemon in gladiatorial combat. And yet, Genesis felt thrilled to be a part of such a ritual. She'd always wondered what such activities must be like, and she'd never had a chance to observe them out on the plains. Finally, she'd not only see such a match, she was going to be part of one! Genesis stayed standing in the arena and waited eagerly for her opponent to arrive.

Bright hazel eyes scanned the area, full of curiosity and fascination as the twenty-six year old observed the crowd that not so subtly eyed the area that he was approaching. His hands were tucked into his trouser pockets, his left clenching around the red and white ball that was Rune's Pokeball. The Skiddo was trotting at his side, watching the various humans around her with just as much curiosity that Alfonse felt.

They didn't really know the area, but the rock wall and the dirt that Alfonse could feel beneath his toes was something that he was somewhat familiar with, considering that he came from Ashfield. As if on habit, Alfonse eyed the seven foot tall wall with some light consideration. The houses on the other side could also be used to their advantage. Even though he was about five feet tall, he could probably scale the wall with some ease due to his tree climbing.

Maybe. Consdering these stones were a lot smoother than the rough bark of the trees of Ashfield, he might be better off darting behind it and trying to climb the houses rather than the wall. Hmm. He lightly bounced on his toes as he glanced across the area, committing to memory the stone buildings and the rough dirt roads. This could be a much better area to live in, although he was rather partial to the house he built himself out in Ashfield.

Alfonse sighed as he looked around the area, though as he caught sight of the teen that was already there. Was this his opponent? Even though they were around the same height, the other human was significantly younger than he. Probably around thirteen, if he was correct. There were some people cheering on the younger male, most likely people that lived here if Alfonse was right.

While Rune was at his side, the other ended up bringing out their Pokemon out. A Girafarig. Alfonse took a step back uncertainly, watching the Girafarig with a rather uncertain eye. The creature was yellow and dark brown, the colors evenly split down the middle of its torso. The white atop its head and its beady little black eyes added more to the picture. It's neck was long, almost too long in Alfonse's opinion.

Hmm.. He ran his finger along Rune's horns, ignoring the Pokemon as she attempted to nip at his fingers in response. As she rustled the leaves on her back, Alfonse smirked slightly as his hand darted backwards. The pair ignored the crowd, especially the hoots that he could hear shouting out the words 'Ashfield' at the top of their lungs. Blasted city. His lips twitched in amusement as he tied his golden blonde hair back with a loose scrap of fabric, his toes digging further into the dirt.

"All right, Rune," he murmured, scratching the fur between her eyes and nose and looking straight into those dark eyes contemplatively. "You don't know much, but we're gonna give it our best, yeah?" She bleated incomprehendingly, sniffing his face experimentally before looking away curiously. This area was new to her, a good place for her hooved feet.

Alfonse snorted and straightened up, glancing around once more. He had decided to sign-up for the fights in Crater, not just to get out of Ashfield, but to work Rune up a bit. Admittedly, she had been extremely eager and had bit him several times demandingly. Alfonse had been initially uncertain about it, but the harder she bit had him thinking to sign-up just to get the Skiddo to stop biting him.

And now he was here. Facing his first opponent, who looked half his damn age. He sighed slightly, eyeing the fair skinned boy in front of him. Would this be interesting, or would it be fast? Alfonse didn't know, even as he ran a hand through the somewhat loose golden strands that fell around his face. He hummed under his breath thoughtfully, sticking his hands back in his pocket and rolling his shoulders backwards.

Time to do this.

Soren grew excited as his opponent arrived and brought out his pokemon. He (Soren thought it was probably a he, but he wasn't a hundred percent sure.) wasn't very tall and had long blonde hair that made him appear a bit feminine. However, his other features struck Soren as masculine such as the facial structure and build. Whatever, it's not really important anyway. Soren thought. After all, a boy with his hair and long eyelashes certainly had no room to judge a person for appearing a little androgynous.

His pokemon was a familiar one. Skiddo were common, especially on the farms like where Soren lived. He knew all about them, and knew that they were a cute grass type that could grow to be very powerful and even large enough to ride. This one looked a little on the small side, so maybe it was young. Though really with the restrictions on the Junior Tournament, Soren didn't expect to see any pokemon much older or stronger than Genesis. This is part of what made the tournament such a great opportunity to train.

"Hi!" Soren called over to his opponent, suppressing his own desire to melt into the floor to hide from the crowd. He gave a shy little wave to the young man and a smile. "My name is Soren, and my pokemon is Genesis. I hope we have a good battle today." That was as much politeness as Soren thought he was expected to show. Now, it was time to fight.

"Genesis, you can attack now," Soren shouted to Genesis as if he was telling her it was time for dinner. "But not too much, okay?"

Genesis understood exactly one word of this, "attack". She actually preferred that he didn't command anything more specific. She'd rather make her own decisions in combat, and she thought she performed perfectly well when it came to protecting her little human. "So it seems we are to begin," she hummed to her opponent, not bothering to introduce herself properly. Then without any further warning, she lowered her head and charged the smaller skiddo. She turned her body slightly, intending to tackle the pokemon with her shoulder and not trample her, but she didn't slow. This was Genesis's most basic attack, one she was practically born knowing how to do. This was her way of testing her opponent to see how much effort it was going to take to win.

Considering that technically they had never participated in an official battle, Alfonse found himself reasonably nervous that Rune could get severely injured in this. For all of her indifference with staying with him, he was quite fond of the grass-type. As the other boy greeted him loudly, the blonde raised an eye-brow as the boy introduced himself as Soren and his Girafarig Genesis.

For a kid that was part of Crater and the battle, it was remarkably polite. Alfonse pursed his lips, sucking on his tongue experimentally as he eyed the Girafarig. Almost absently, his hand hovered over his left side protectively. This one better not be like the one he ran into not long ago, as he had gotten extremely hurt. In fact, his ribs were still healing from the incident.

"Alfonse," he greeted shortly, pointing at himself. He tapped Rune's head experimentally. "This is Rune." Inwardly he hunched in on himself. Crowds usually made him claustrophobic, and getting in social situations was a nightmare he didn't want to predict. However, despite the politeness of the boy, he told the Pokemon that she could attack.

Alfonse couldn't stop from stiffening, his side twinging a tad (okay a lot) as he braced himself. "Not too much, okay?" A brief snicker escaped him at this, though his eyes sharpened as the Girafarig charged at the Skiddo, aiming to hit the smaller pokemon with its shoulder. "Brace yourself, Rune," he said firmly, watching as the grass-type shuddered and seemingly got slightly bigger than before.

The giraffe-like Pokemon slammed into Rune's shoulders, causing the Pokemon's vision to shift dizzily for a few seconds. Grunting, the Skiddo skidded backwards from the move, her dark eyes briefly irritated as she focused in on her opponent. Hmm.. what could she do? Her eyes flickered down at the dirt, before a mischievious gleam flickered across her face.

Bracing herself on her front hooves, she swiveled around and kicked out harshly with her back hooves at the dirt, causing it to go flying. Hopefully this would get into the other Pokemon's eyes. This wasn't necessarily an attack, just a distraction. Hmm... Rune eyed the wall contemplatively, her mind racing as she considered her options.

Rune couldn't take too long, since she know Alfonse's watchful gaze was on her. She swerved around to the backside of a nearby house, attempting to hug the tiny entranceway that separated a house and the wall, beady black eyes watching warily as she attempted to stay out of range. This was a battlefield after all.

Anything and everything could be used.

Even as Genesis tackled the skiddo, the smaller pokemon appeared to be changing. It was almost like it was growing right there on the battlefield. Becoming a little bigger wasn't going to save it, nor would kicking up a bit of sand. Genesis easily raised her head on her long neck and avoided a face full of dirt. Then the skiddo ran off and hid from her.

"Oh, your pokemon ran away," Soren said in surprise, leaning forward and peering into the shadows between the houses to try and see the injured skiddo. "Are...we still fighting then? Does that mean I win?" Soren looked at the audience around them to see if anyone would tell him the answers. His pokemon, however, had already assumed this battle would continue until one of them became unable to battle or one of the humans conceded.

Genesis was mildly annoyed. She understood that they were herbivores and brutality wasn't normally their bag, but come on! She hoped this skiddo didn't expect her to chase it like she was some bloodthirsty predator. She didn't need to.

The girafarig walked smack in the center of the arena, in the sunlight, bold and confident as ever. Her eyes though were directed at the shadowy little shelter where the skiddo had run to hide. She didn't need to come to Rune in order to hurt her. Genesis could attack from here. All she needed to do was see her target and focus her mind. Genesis would walk around the battlefield calmly, casually, just trying to catch a glimpse of Rune without getting close. As soon as Genesis saw the little skiddo, she would focus and unleash her powerful confusion attack.

Like tackle, the move was pretty basic to her. She was young, after all, and she was only beginning to tap into the incredible psychic powers that were her birthright. It was just as natural to her type as the physical charge but even more powerful. Besides that, it had a small chance of leaving her foe dazed and drooling. Genesis would focus her gaze on Rune, and her ossicones would twitch. There was no other outward sign of power, no glowing aura. It was not a dazzling attack, but if Genesis succeeded, then Rune would feel it.
