Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

This battle is taking place on one of the sturdy wooden piers at Crater City's bay. The pier is a few inches over five feet in width, and it is surrounded by deep, cool ocean water. A brisk breeze blows through the battlefield, keeping it quite pleasant despite the summer sun. Feel free to use your environment to your advantage. Good luck, combatants! The deadline for this round is June 13th.

As Vex and his father were making the return trip from Omega's Camp to their home in Forest Beach, they had once again stopped in Crater City for supplies. Vex had overheard a couple of people talking about a tournament that was going to be held and had begged his father to let him sign up. It had taken a lot of pleading but Korvin had eventually agreed to let his son participate. The fact that novice trainers like Vex wouldn't be paired with people whose pokemon were far more experienced had helped immensely.

So now Vex set on the dock where his battle was to take place, his legs dangling over the side and the breeze from the bay ruffling his hair. If he closed his eyes and just breathed in the salty scent of the bay and listened to the lap of the water against the wood of the dock he could almost imagine he was back in Forest Beach. Donut was climbing the pilings and watching the water below him. His father was among the small crowd that had gathered at the dock to watch the battle. "I wonder when our opponent is going to get here and what sort of pokemon they'll have. Do you think Soren and Genesis are signed up for the tournament? Or Ben and his little Tepig? It'd be fun to battle them, I think." Vex chatted to the Emolga when he climbed the piling next to Vex's head. Donut paused to listen but when it appeared that the boy was just talking, he went back to his exploration of the dock.

Ever since her arrival in Terrene, Jillian had been trying to figure out how she feels about this whole Beta guy and the things he does in Crater city. She still hadn't gotten over the brand she had been forcefully given, but the battle tournament gave Beta a whole lot of Jillian's respect. It was crucial for people to train their Pokémon to be battle ready, and fighting against others was the best practice. She had signed up without second thoughts.

The long-haired woman walked toward the docks, where she would have her first match. Primrose the Pachirisu, the only Pokémon without a pokeball that she had, was sat on her shoulder, nervously glancing around as they passed crowds of people on the way. It didn't look like her match was getting a lot of attention, compared to some of the other ones, but the squirrel was starting to shiver in panic. She was easily getting stage fright. Jillian, on the other hand, moved confidently, with her head raised high in pride. She had faith in her Pokémon... Well, perhaps not, but she surely had faith in her own logical thinking and stress immunity.

She stepped onto the pier and looked around. The closeness of water was troubling. Two of her Pokémon would be in a lot of trouble if they fell in. Ideally, she would prevent that from happening, but having to watch out for that could be a hindrance. Moreover, by having one of her Pokémon out, she had revealed one of her cards before even starting the first round. It would be ideal to avoid choosing another Pokémon to keep them a secret from her future opponents.

Only after scanning the surroundings Jillian glanced at the boy sat at the pier. He looked very young... A lot like Soren. She smirked lightly. Young age could mean a lack of experience, as well as emotional reactions. If he was a native, he could actually be more experienced than her, but considering her adult mind, she felt like she was at an advantage. Of course, underestimating an opponent would be foolish, no matter what they looked like. She glanced at the Pokémon by his side and raised an eyebrow. It was a small white rodent... Very similar to Primrose. There were few differences, but it was clearly another species. It could be the same type, though.

"Good day. My name is Jillian. We seem to have a thing or two in common," she stated calmly, shooting another glance at the boy's squirrel before looking at her own. Primrose's tail was wagging in interest. Her earlier anxiety had disappeared temporarily to make room for deep interest in her distant cousin. Too shy to speak up, she only watched the Emolga from afar, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.

Jillian patted her Pachirisu's head encouragingly before whispering to her, "I'll be counting on you."

As the low hum of conversation from the crowd changed, Vex glanced up from the water and toward the end of the pier. Apparently he was being paired with a woman who, if he had to guess, was probably a decade or more older than he was. She had a Pachirisu perched on ehr shoulder and he smiled. He was as familiar with that species as he was Emolga as both were pretty common back home. He wondered what his father thought. Just because the woman's pokemon were young didn't mean she was an inexperienced battler. Still, it wasn't like Vex could back out just because his opponent was older than he was. And he didn't want to anyway. This would be a good experience for him and Donut. If Vex planned on traveling at all he might run into someone older and more experienced than he was that he might have to fight. By having a regulated battle now, he could get some idea of how other people battled.

Vex stood as his opponent introduced herself and he felt a weight on his shoulder that told him Donut had leaped from the piling to sit in his usual spot. The Emola sat upright, his tail twitching as he studied the stranger and her pokemon. "Hi! I'm Vex. This is my pokemon, Donut." Donut blinked and scratched at the notch in his ear before straightening again. Hello. He squeaked to the Pachirisu, wondering if she had any better idea of what was going on than he did. Of course, he wouldn't ask because he didn't want to admit he didn't know something. "Donut is going to be my pokemon for this battle. Who are you going to use? Your Pachirisu? Or do you have another pokemon?" If she was going to use the Pachirisu it would be an interesting battle since neither pokemon would have a distinct advantage over the other. But he also didn't know if she had other pokemon that she might be able to use. For all he knew, she might have a ground type that would put Donut at a terrible disadvantage in this battle.

So he was using that Pachirisu-like Pokémon. Donut, he called it. What a delightfully childish name. Jillian made an educated guess that Donut would use electric-type attacks, just like Pachirisu usually did. Primrose was still too inexperienced to know any, sadly, so it could be the case for this one as well. It really was between Primrose and Mint, but she saw no reason to reveal what her other Pokémon so early in the tournament. She had plans to proceed to the next rounds.

"I do have other Pokémon," she answered vaguely. "But I will be using Primrose here. It would be interesting to see which one among the two similar Pokémon is stronger."

The woman pointed to the pier. Primrose hesitantly ran down her arm and landed on the wooden flooring. She nodded to the other squirrel in greeting. She had seen what was going to happen. Battles. It was very strange to the Pachirisu that her trainer chose her out of all the Pokémon. She didn't consider herself to be very strong at all... In her lack of confidence, she only gave a short answer to her opponent, "Hello... Good luck."

"Let us begin, then. Whenever you're ready, Vex."

So she had other pokemon? Vex was curious what they were and slightly disappointed that he wouldn't be able to see any of them. Were they rare? Were they things he might have seen back home? He wanted to ask but before he could decide what to ask first, Jillian had sent her little Pachirisu down onto the pier. "Okay Donut. Let's give it our best. We're only battling for fun, not to hurt. Kind of like training." The Emolga, though unfamiliar with the majority of the human's words, was beginning to figure out that 'battle' meant a fight. So...his human wanted him to fight the Pachirisu, perhaps. He didn't know why and he didn't really want to hurt the other electric type, but maybe that's why Vex had also said 'training'. This wasn't meant to hurt...at least not like when they were in the forest and hurting your opponent before they could hurt you was the only way to survive.

Donut carefully dropped to the wood of the pier and moved forward to stand away from the human boy. Good luck to you too. He replied to Primrose's words. He had grown up in the wild, he could take care of himself and he felt like there was no way a Pachirisu could defeat him, not when he had the advantage of being able to fly. Vex quickly went over in his mind what he knew Donut was capable of. "Alright...I guess the first move is mine then. Donut, use Quick Attack." The Emolga hesitated for just a second before darting forward, his claws gripping the wood and giving him extra speed as he rushed straight toward Primrose in an attempt to slam into her.

Primrose gulped nervously as the other Pokémon descended onto the wooden pier. She wasn't very good at conversation, but fighting was even more stressful. Hopefully it would be over quickly. At the very least it didn't seem like her opponent had any ill intentions, so perhaps there wouldn't be any negative feelings associated?

The other human called out a command and Donut charged in with an attack. Primrose staggered backward, barely keeping balance. She used her tail to steady herself against the ground.

"Strike back, Primrose. Formation Delta!"

The command would seem like gibberish to most others, but for Jillian and her Pokémon, it made sense. It wasn't like the creatures understood the moves' names, anyway, the trainer realized, so she came up with original commands that also had the advantage of not revealing her strategy to the opponent. Her Pokémon were still young and with limited abilities, but she hoped to develop them into fighters that knew many tricks.

The Pachirisu knew this particular command. She held her head closer to her body, rolled up her limbs and used the tail to launch herself back toward the other squirrel. As she somersaulted forward, she curled the tail up as well, forming a ball that was slowly charging at the opponent and gradually gaining speed.

Vex had, of course, expected some form of retaliation but what on Terrene was a Formation Delta? Uncertain what was about to happen, Vex gave Donut the only order he could think of. "Watch." The Emolga focused his attention on the Pachirisu as she...curled up? He chattred quietly at the strange behavior. What was she doing? As she started to roll forward, Donut tensed. This was some sort of attack then? A rolling ball of fur should be easy to get away from, it wasn't like the Pahcirisu could see where she was going, after all. But there were also not a lot of places to run... Vex, however, was pretty sure he recognized the move now and knew they were in trouble unless he could get Donut into the air. "Donut, up! The command made the Emolga turn toward the nearest tall object, one of the wooden posts he'd been climbing earlier, but it wasn't tall enough.

With a scrabble of claws, the Emolga turned and fled toward Vex but his moment of hesitation cost him. As he turned and started to move, the Pachirisu collided with him and sent him sprawling. He recovered with a shake of his head and continued his dash toward the next tallest thing in the area: Vex. The boy was prepared, however, and scooped the Emolga up as he leaped toward him, tossing the black and white pokemon into the air. Sparks scattered from the wing-like membranes on either side of his body as Donut spread his limbs and used the ocean breeze to stay airborne. "Thunder shock." It wasn't a particularly effective move against an electric type opponent but unless he planned to have Donut land again and put himself in the path of the Pachirisu's Rollout (which he was most definitely going to avoid for as long as possible) it was his only option for the moment. As the Emolga glided over the pier he gathered up electricity and sent a jolt toward the Pachirisu.

Jillian's eyes were piercing through the opponent's Pokémon as it was making its moves. She was analyzing Donut's reactions. There was a bit of a delay, implying that her command confused at least one of the two - the Pokémon or the trainer. Good. Primrose's attack took a moment to prepare and execute, so this gave her the time she needed.

Primrose managed to hit the opponent, but then Donut proceeded to make use of his advantage over the Pachirisu. Despite their apparent similarities, there had to be things that were unique to each of these two. Jillian had noticed the cape-like wings on its arms. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say Donut simply had wings instead of arms. Either way, she had observed its graceful descent earlier and now that Donut was displaying these skills again, she could see that his specialty had to be... Flight. He wasn't a bird, naturally, so perhaps the ability was somewhat limited, but it was still something Primrose lacked.

As suspected, Donut used an electric attack. The bolts struck the moving ball that was Primrose, but they didn't stop her. Jillian couldn't see how her Pokémon was doing, considering the Pachirisu's face was hidden from view, but since she was still rolling, she had to be fairly fine. But as Donut continued gliding in the air... How would she be able to attack him again? Rollout was growing more powerful as it progressed. Whether Vex was aware of that or not, he was doing a good job at countering it. Jillian couldn't let that be.

"Primrose, go up with your tail..." the trainer commanded, using simple words to make sure she would be understood. Her command cut off as she waited for the right moment. Primrose rolled toward Vex and then took a wide turn, heading back the same way. As she was passing below Donut, Jillian continued: "Now!"

The Pachirisu's tail unrolled momentarily, sending her flying up. Primrose grabbed it again midflight, continuing toward Donut as a rolling ball. Jillian held her breath. She could only hope the Pachirisu wouldn't break the wooden pier on her way down... And it would certainly interrupt the Rollout, no matter what. This attack was their biggest hope to win.

Neither Vex nor Donut expected the order that Jillian gave. It didn't seem like it would accomplish much, the Pachirisu's tail couldn't possibly be strong enough to launch her high enough into the air to reach the gliding Emolga. But regardless of their mutual uncertainty over the effectiveness of this odd strategy, both were ready...just in case. And when Primrose did, in fact, manage to launch herself into the air high enough that Vex was certain she'd collide with Donut, he bit his lip and prepared for his loss to be announced any second.

Donut, however, was not going to let himself be taken out quite so easily. As the fluffy white ball came toward him, he folded his arms, closing the cape-like membrane so that he dropped toward the pier at a rapid rate, Unfortunately, his attempt was not timed quite right and rather than the Pachirisu sailing over his head, she managed to clip him and send him tumbling. He managed to right himself and flare out his 'wings' at the last second to avoid a painful crash landing, though it was by no means the most graceful landing either. "You okay, buddy?" Vex questioned as the Emolga gingerly picked himself up off the wood of the pier.

Vex briefly considered withdrawing the Emolga and forfeiting the match but what if all they needed was one more hit to win? Donut looked tired and sore but Vex knew he could still fight for just a bit longer. "Just a bit more buddy. We can do this. Quick attack one more time." Donut, despite having taken a hard hit, darted toward the Pachirisu a second time, hoping to catch her off guard as she recovered from what was probably a rough landing on the pier. The Emolga, however, didn't stop once his attack was complete. Despite whether he was successful in hitting the Pachirisu, he turned and scrambled away, scaling a nearby post and leaping from one to the next. He would be much harder to hit if he kept moving and so he refused to stop despite the fact he was beginning to feel exhausted from the battle.
