Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

This battle is taking place northeast of Crater, on the beach at the bay. Wingulls caw up above and from further up the beach, but they know better than to interfere in what is happening on this battlefield. The ground is loose and sandy, and the low ocean waves come calmly in, sink back out, and repeat. The sand has been cleared of any shells and other debris. Feel free to use your environment to your advantage.Good luck, combatants! The deadline for this round is June 22nd.

Feeling a bit more confident since he won the last round, Ben was feeling pretty ready for this one. It had been a few days since they defeated that other boy with his bird and Ben had been practicing with Birdy. She even developed a new ability that he hoped to put to good use.

Arriving at the shore, Ben had removed his shoes so that he could feel the sand in his toes. Lucille didn't like coming to the ocean and often felt the need to dig a ditch in the sand to feel safe. Birdy was resting on Ben's shoulders and she was prepared for the next fight. Sure she had taken a beating in the last one but winning gave her a boost of confidence as well.

The boy knew this opponent would likely be a lot tougher and he may have been pushing his luck. He would still do his best and so would Birdy since Lucille hated battling.

"Ya' ready Birdy?" he asked, petting the wingull's chin.

Their first battle was a success. Primrose was usually hesitant about battling, as opposed to the rest of her Pokémon, who were all enthusiastic, but whenever she did try it, her abilities impressed Jillian. Using her in the first match seemed like the most reasonable choice considering the field and Jillian's plan to keep her other Pokémon's identities a secret, but in hindsight, it was a good decision. As she descended onto the sandy beach, the woman was plotting her next battle strategy.

Once again, the field wasn't exactly to her advantage. If they kept away from the water, it wouldn't really matter. Hazel would probably like digging in the soft sand... But if the opponent found a way to splash water at her, she would be in trouble. The same could be said about Litleo. Jillian smiled to herself as she walked toward the arena. Primrose, who was sitting on her shoulder, shuddered, imagining what this grin could mean. She hadn't been very encouraged by their victory either, but while Jillian accepted it with a cold, analytical eye, Primrose considered it luck. Surely, it would run out eventually, right?

The woman narrowed her eyes. Her opponent was... another young boy. She had seen plenty of adults, but there she went, fighting against a child again. Vex and Donut were capable opponents, so there was no reason to believe this boy would be any different. On his shoulder was a Pokémon that was similar in size and color to Primrose, but the shape was certainly different. It was a bird, a very common one, at that. In fact, Jillian could see multiple of its species further in the distance, behind the small crowd that had gathered to watch them. An electric Pokémon would be the best choice against those, but she didn't even know any electric attacks. Jillian's smile widened. For now, she would try another Pokémon. Primrose could have her well-deserved rest.

"Good day. My name is Jillian. My Pokémon of choice is Mint."

She took out a pokeball from her pants pocket and opened it, allowing the young goat to appear on the sand. Mint bleated cheerfully, hopping around and kicking the sand in all directions playfully. She sent a bright smile toward the boy and the bird on his shoulder. She had been told that they would be battling and she delighted about this. Primrose had battled already and Mint was jealous. She wanted her turn, too!

Seeing the woman approach with her pokemon, Ben was a little intimidated to be battling an adult. He just assumed they were way stronger and experienced. She introduced herself as Jillian and he was to battle against her skiddo. Ben was super envious at the moment. He had always wanted one and they'd be great for his parents farm.

"I'm Ben. An' this here is my Birdy," he replied politely. Ben didn't really know what else to say. He figured it was just best to start the battle whenever Jillian was ready. Standing opposite the woman and her skiddo. Ben had his wingull perched on his shoulder.

"Show er what ya got, Birdy!" He called out as the bird flew from him and into the sky. The wingull positioned herself a well enough distance and fired off a supersonic. Whether or noy that landed, she dove in to use knock off.

Mint steadied herself as Birdy took flight. She put on the most serious and focused expression she could manage - which resulted in a determined frown and a cheeky smile that she couldn't hold back. She was ready!

Birdy. A delightfully simple name, Jillian noted. There had to be a reason why this child and his common, uncreatively named Pokémon had made it to round two. The boy's command apparently only told the bird to act on its own. That made it unpredictable, but also showed that they might not have a strategy planned.

"Mint, careful," Jillian gave a sharp warning, watching as the Wingull prepared and launched a long-distance attack. It was using some kind of sound waves...

Mint jumped away with a quiet bleat, trying to escape the soundwaves, but they reached her before she could dodge. When she landed, her legs were already shaking and her gaze seemed absent. Jillian frowned, but before she could analyze what exactly was wrong with the goat, she noticed the bird swooping down toward her.

"Mint, no time to waste! Tackle and formation delta!"

Jillian's voice reached Mint as if it was coming from afar, but the familiar words helped her focus. She shook her head. The world around her was still shaking, but she knew what she had to do. Just as Birdy was closing in on her, the goat charged, hoping to meet it with her own Tackle attack. The bird slammed into her, causing the goat to cry in pain, but she moved her head, trying to strike it with her horns. Whether she succeeded or not, she curled up into a ball, just barely hiding her horned head, and took off rolling forward, hoping to make use of the bird's low position before it would fly up.

Jillian criticized herself in her thoughts for using the same strategy twice, but with Mint's limited moves, she had little choice. What she really was relying on was Mint's raw power, as compared to the agile but delicate Pachirisu.

Ben was relieved to see that the supersonic had landed. If they could just confuse the skiddo, then it could help them gain an advantage. Birdy couldn’t rely on her flight. Trainers were resourceful and would easily find a way to get past this and land a blow.

It was a misfortunate when Mint had managed to break through the confusion. With this, Birdy would have to be careful and try to dodge the goat’s oncoming attacks. Immediately, the opposiing trainer shouted out a command. Ben couldn’t exactly hear what she had said from where he was standing but he could have sworn she said the word ‘formation.’ Formation of what? Was this girl some kind of soldier?

The boy panicked as the skiddo charged in to tackle the wingull who was just rising back into the air after landing a blow. The bird wasn’t quick enough and took a tackle directly in the back. She was able to catch herself without crashing into the sand however. Birdy put some distance between her and the skiddo, hoping she didn’t have some kind of long range attack.

Staying in the sky wouldn’t get her anywhere though. She’d have to eventually come down to attack. The wingull knew another attack of the wing would leave her vulnerable to be taken out by the goat. She wanted to keep some distance but still get close enough to cause impact. Using a water gun wouldn’t do much damage from all the way in the sky. The stream would break into a drizzle by the time it reached the skiddo.

Diving down toward Mint, Wingull prepared to fire off a jet of water. The bird didn’t have a lot of energy in her but if this could somehow manage to take out the goat, then she’d be proud. Still, she did her best and she just wanted to rest.

At the thought of possible failure, the wingull did not expect the goat to go rolling in the sand. Was that even possible? The skiddo was rolling upward to knock the bird out of the sky. Birdy tried to pull up but felt her bottom punted by the goat’s head. The wingull struggled to keep in the air.

Jillian watched Mint's successes with satisfaction. She managed to fight through whatever those soundwaves had done to her and she hit that bird twice. They needed to keep up like this in order to win.

Mint, on the other hand, was not feeling so great about this. The world had already been spinning around for her, even before she started rolling. She felt the impact as she slammed into the bird the second time, but following that, her rolling slowed down. It was hard to tell whether the soft ground or Mint's lack of focus caused it, but she eventually unrolled completely and ended up on the warm sand in a sitting position.

"Mint, behind you!"

Jillian was as vigilant and observant as ever and she expected the Skiddo to avoid the incoming blast of water, but the goat didn't even react. Not to the jet of water that collided with her and not to Jillian's shout. She simply sat there, looking around with an absent-minded expression on her face as if she couldn't even really see anything. She winced slightly at the Water Gun, but she did nothing otherwise...

"Get up. The battle is not over," Jillian tried to convince her, although she had reasons to believe that words wouldn't be enough here. There was something wrong with Mint.

The Skiddo understood the command to get up and she slowly and seemingly reluctantly listened. But as she was standing up, she staggered and fell, damaging herself upon collapsing. She bleated helplessly and proceeded to try again, this time with a more stable stance and thus, more success.

The wingull thought that she was just about finished. There was no way she could continue on if the skiddo kept hitting her with the full force of her body, the way she did. The water gun had seemed to barely affect the goat but the damage would eventually add up, right? Birdy wasn’t so sure but she had to go for one last move. If there was any chance of winning this match, she had to dive right in and give it everything she had.

Ben noticed how the skiddo had staggered as the confusion was taking a toll on the grass type. Perhaps this was their opportunity. With Birdy seeming as if she had one more move left in her, now had to be the time, while the skiddo was imbalanced. “Now, Birdy, give it your best shot!” Ben called out.

Birdy dove down, holding out her wing to crash into the goat. As it charged with dark energy, she was prepared for this to be the end of the fight. Whether it be her move or Mint’s. It had seemed as if that was going to be decided now as the effects of the supersonic had worn off. Still, the wingull aimed to clash with the skiddo with knock off.

The world around her started to stabilize. It was no longer spinning, at the very least, but her injuries were catching up with her. Mint found herself covered in sand and bruises, but she shook her head, finally snapping out of confusion. With a single confident bounce, she turned to face the bird the opposed her.

"Mint, dodge it!"

Jillian's command was mostly futile - the Skiddo's senses had returned to her and she realized that she had to escape from the bird that was once again swooping down toward her, with dark energy forming around its wings. She waited for the right moment, knowing that timing would be essential... But she waited too long. She managed to dodge most of it, but the attack partially clipped her from behind, pushing her downward. She lost all balance once more and fell, spreading a cloud of dust around her. Jillian knew what to expect once it would subside.

And she was right. The goat was on the sand, unconscious. Primrose gasped in concern, but Jillian shook her head and aimed Mint's pokeball at her.

"She's fine. She'll just need to rest," she whispered dismissively, returning the Skiddo to her pokeball. Following that, she pierced the boy with her gaze. So that was it. She was defeated by a child and his Wingull that just did whatever it wanted. There was certainly a lot to learn from this experience. She would have to study her mistakes later.

"Good job. You've bested me. Your Wingull has potential and I hope you will be able to advance to the final."

She had chosen her words carefully. That "Birdy" was quite capable indeed.
