His lip curled with displeasure as they continued on and found another Pokémon that clearly did not belong in the caves, being torn to pieces by the wild Pokémon. Nature could be even crueler than humans, so he believed — so he had been taught. The necessity of destruction and consumption of life was a most unfortunate fact of their world, and here it played out no differently. Regardless, Avery suspected that surely the owner of the cloth could not have been the Numel. After losing two, or perhaps all, of their Pokémon, would the owner still be whole enough to save? Even if they managed to find them uninjured, their Nidoran was bashed into a pool of blood against the wall and their Numel was now being torn apart and squabbled over like nothing more than carrion. The guilt and loss of what they’d owned would plague them for the rest of their lives, and Avery had to face the possibility that they may not have enough strength in them to rebuild themself. If there was a chance, though, he’d have to take it.
Bluebell was less concerned with the Numel’s fate, and more concerned with the fact that a white and red bear was coming at her, stumbling and challenging her. She couldn’t even tell what parts of her enemies’ fur were bloody and what parts were actually red, which didn’t really bother her.
She tried to duck out of the way as the Mienfoo hit her right in the face and her eyes watered with the pain and discomfort of a hazy ammonia smell emanating from its glands. Shaking her head fiercely and stumbling back a step, she was unable to even see the Spinda preparing its attack. Before she knew what hit her, a surprisingly painful cut seared right through her thick, beautiful mane and left a bloody scratch near her throat. If the small Pokémon had been older or more experienced, that could have been a seriously dangerous attack.
Bluebell yowled ferociously, ”Agh how dare you?!” her pride and her skin stung by the attack of the small opponents, and instantly retaliated by lunging out, kicking off the ground with her back paws and leaping straight into the Mienfoo, trying to Tackle it to the ground. Rather than attacking again while it was thrown off balance, though, she whirled towards the Spinda next and pounced towards it, leading with her exposed fangs and aiming to grab it right in the neck and sink her sharp Bite into its throat.
Carnation would normally jump to back her up, but right now he was preoccupied with the opponent that was proving itself to be dangerously powerful. It had already shot a powerful moon blast at Genesis, and it was clear the Girafarig wouldn’t be able to take another. Her calm call for assistance was responded to immediately.
Avery heard the sound of fighting coming from behind them and he turned his head back to look at their new attacker, frowning. But before he could even say a word, Carnation had already spun around and raced to the back of the group, his tails streaming behind him until he was standing between the Lunatone and the boy’s Pokémon. Unlike Bluebell, he was not all reflex. He had learned from Avery to avoid a violent fight when possible. So he stood protectively, slightly in front of Genesis, and sent a stern look at the wild Pokémon, but did not actually attack. Instead, he spoke in a low, growling tone, ”Why do you attack us? We’ve done you no harm.”
Confident in Carnation’s ability to handle the situation in the back, he refocused on the battle that Bluebell was fighting. She had no sense for strategy, and would not stop to use Charge or Helping Hand unless ordered to, which meant that Avery often had to expressly dictate moves to her. If this battle didn’t end quickly, through surrender or through death, he would have to take charge and give her orders.
Bluebell’s Intimidate takes effect.
