Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

He groaned, and reached up rub the drowsiness out of his eyes. He opened his eyes blearily, and his surroundings slowly came into focus from the fuzziness that encompassed his vision. Slowly, colors became clear. It was... Dark. No, wait... Not dark. That wasn't the right word. Gray. Yes, that was the right word. Better word for what he was... Seeing. Suddenly he shivered, and clutched his torso with both arms as he sat upright. That was odd. Where was he? He looked around. The ground was white and it seemed to sparkle, despite it not being too bright... The sparkling white on the ground laid pressure on his eyes, which squinted slightly. There were.... What were those dark things with the rough surface? There was a name, name, name, name. Names were good. Always good to have a name. Bit rude to go around calling something a thing, when it had a name. Trees! Yes. Trees. Why were words so hard? His thoughts were... Clear-ish, for having just woken up. So, he couldn't really discern as for why he was having trouble with this. A spark of frustration churned in his mind. He should know this! It should be as easy as snapping his fingers!

.... Wait, he could snap his fingers, right? Just to check, he snapped his fingers with his left hand. Good. He could. Why didn't he know that? Bit odd, wasn't it? Trying to quell the rising anxiety and panic, he did his best to stand up. Ack! When he touched that sparkling white, it stung his hands a bit! Well, not exactly... But the sensation was.... Odd.

Still, he stood up and was able to look up at the uh.... Sky! Yes, sky. It was gray. He supposed that was why everything but the ground seemed so.... Gray.

Then he noticed a soft.... Noise? How would he describe the noise? Cracking? No, that sounded sharper than it was. Crunching? Closer. Closer. He turned around to look at what it was, and immediately let out a noise of glee.

"Oh, look at you!" He said suddenly, barely noticing how his voice somehow shifted up an octave or two. He leaned forward, planting his palms on his knees for support. "Aren't you adorable? You from around here, eh?" He asked, and received gentle squeaking in response.

Ah. Right. No communication was going to happen here. He dropped back down into a sitting position on the ground. "Hello! My name is.... Is...." He trailed off. What was his name? Alright, the lack of remembering his own name was extremely distressing, but he didn't really want to focus on his state of internal panic right now. "Name, name, forgot my own name!" He muttered under his breath. "Stupid, stupid, how'd you forget a name, much less your own?!" Suddenly he returned to his regular volume and smiled at the small blue mouse. "Oh, I'm sure it'll come to me. Not that important, anywho."

He wasn't sure, but he was fairly certain the little pokemon before him was.... Confused. Was he confusing? Was that a thing he was? Confusing?

A giggle lilted through somewhere deeper in the wintry forest, just a bit beyond where the newly immigrated man sat on the frozen ground with his blue acquaintance. A voice accompanied the laugh, high-pitched, feminine, and breathy, but the speaker's words were not discernible, as the voice was too soft.

A moment later, a shrill sob pierced the air, and movement would catch either Matt's, or the Azurill's, or both of their attention. A small creature, barely visible against the white and grey world that this part of Terrene turned into in the winter, sprinted in their direction, a look of fear plastered across its rotund mouse face- only to be stopped short in its tracks, through by what couldn't yet be seen.

//Oh, little mousey, don't go! Don't you know that we're not done yet?// The voice from before was closer now; the tone was sing-song, dripping with a false innocence that could send a chill up and down one's spine. If Matt or Azurill searched for the source of the voice, they might eventually catch a glimpse of a black and white creature, about two and a half feet tall, human-like in appearance, standing on a low branch of a tree in the near distance.

At the foot of the tree were two other Pokemon. The first was a small bear-like Pokemon, tan with orangey spots and splotches randomly peppering its body, standing just a bit taller than the Pokemon in the tree. The second was quite a small thing, a little mushroom with a familiar red and white pattern on its cap. The poor thing was covered in scratches and other marks, and not only that, seemed to be suffering from the low temperatures, as well. The mushroom would surely prefer to be tucked in the hallow of a tree that standing out in the open.

In fact, reading the emotions of the three wild Pokemon on the ground, none of them wanted to be there. Tears streamed down the Togedemaru's face; the Spinda was bruised and looked more than a little bit dejected and afraid; the Foongus looked as though it had been the unfortunate and unwilling subject of a biology experiment or anatomy lesson.

Spotting the human and his Pokemon in the distance, the Gothorita spoke: //Run along home now, unless... unless you want to join us? Perhaps another little mousey would like to play with us? I do love making new friends!// Her voice was ever cheerful and breathy.

//Oh, what do you think, my lovely?// The Spinda suddenly began levitating. It squirmed for a minute, but then held still. //I should no better than to make offers to strangers without consulting my lovely bear cub, hmm? Do you think the little blue mousey would be a good friend for us?// The Spinda was silent as it was levitated up to eye-level with the Gothorita. Still, the psychic paused for a moment and looked thoughtful before piping up again.

//Oh, he agrees with me, how wonderful!// She made a kissy sound at the Spinda, then began to lower him, before apparently growing bored and just dropping him. He landed with a thump, and let out a very soft groan. He didn't bother standing up, instead choosing to tuck his limbs in underneath himself, forming a little furry lump on the cold ground.

//Mm, what do you say, little blue mousey? Care to join us for some fun, or will you run along home with your man?//

The unsettling giggle that came from somewhere deeper in the forest, was.... Creepy, admittedly. He ended up clearing his throat in response, glancing over in the direction he thought the creepy giggling was coming from. There was some... Sounds that accompanied the creepy giggling, but he couldn't quite make out what it was. What he could make out, was the sob that preceded the appearance of a rather... Spherical rodent pokemon. He was trying to place the species, before he shook his head violently. "Stupid, stupid... Not that important right now..." He muttered to himself, under his breath.

Alright. The... Mouse? No wait, there was another mouse next to him. The blue one. Alright. Need better thought descriptors. The round one. The bouncy one was next to him. Alright. Good ways to think in his mind. Better descriptors.

Anyways, the round one seemed fearful and he seemed to.... Stop. He thought that this seemed... Well, not good. Creepy giggling coupled with scared little rodents? Well.... He thought this seemed all a bit horrifying and did he want to stick around for this? A spark of curiosity and kindness aimed towards the speaker of the creepiness and the round one respectively stopped him from bolting in the other direction.

Then the odd... Sounds from before returned, clearer now. Though, he couldn't really... Make sense of it? There was nothing he could understand, though it sounded somewhere... Upwards in tone? Still as creepy as that giggling. He supposed it'd be fair to assume that the giggler and the source of the sounds were one and the same.

He looked harder into the trees, and saw on the branch, just for the slightest instant, a creature that seemed... Smaller than a child, though still slightly human-ish in appearance.... Alright, that was probably the creepy one.

At the bottom of the tree... Was a spotted bear. He dubbed him the dotted one in his head. The other one was.... Just a mushroom. He figured that was as good a description as any.

He eyed the pokemon at the bottom carefully.... Then back at the round one. They all seemed quite scared and damaged. The poor round, rodent was tearing up and he was willing to bet the creepy one was at fault. "Well, looks like you're quite the little bully...." He said, casting a disapproving gaze towards the figure in the trees.

He took a step forward. Sometimes nature was nature but this was all too cruel for him to just... Leave. Though, he could. Oh, he so easily could. He wasn't able to explain it, but... He had a feeling he was all too familiar with running. The fact that he couldn't explain it to himself in that moment scared him, but he had better things to worry about right now. "Be appreciated if your little games stopped now." He said, suddenly thinking to reach into his jacket pockets. He felt around and... Almost recognized what was inside. He felt... Metal in a pocket. He couldn't recall the name, but his fingers easily went around the surface of it, ready to withdraw it. Though, he didn't. He didn't recall the names of the metal... Devices perhaps, but he remembered what they were for. Maybe later.

He withdrew his hand again. "Can you understand? This has to stop. Now." He said, every bit of stubborn determination he was only discovering he had, permeating his tone.

Azurill felt completely in over his head here. He was... Sadly, largely on his own and... Alright, maybe he was a bit lonely. He'd done his best to get around, living here. However, he was small and admittedly not the strongest pokemon around. He was small and kind of easily gobbled up by a big scary pokemon with teeth! He'd managed to avoid getting a firsthand experience with how scary those teeth could be, but.... Well....

Here he was, drawn to this human by this... Unexplainable urge he couldn't defy. Now he here, and he still felt like he couldn't leave this human here. Partly because of the urge, partly because this seemed kind of silly...

The scary psychic in the trees was... Terrifying! She seemed super mean to the pokemon that were also here. Er, Azurill didn't know the names of any of them, except for Foongus. But they all seemed sad and scared and upset. Like they all wanted to turn tail and run. He... He couldn't help fight. He didn't think the human would be much help, since it seemed like he wanted to fight the scary psychic! But.... Maybe they could run away....?

"(N-No! I don't wanna play! You're a terrible playmate! He didn't s-say anything!)" The Azurill tried to muster his courage to spit out a refusal at the intimidating pokemon in the trees.

A lighthearted giggle was the initial response to the human's disapproving words. She giggled just as much at the Azurill's timid but passionate rejection of her offer.

Her next words penetrated directly into Matt's mind. They were quiet and somewhat muffled, as if spoken from far away, but they were there, wedging their way in among Matt's own thoughts.

"Human thinks... he can play with the big kids~?"

Then she was speaking aloud. The other wild Pokemon shivered or shifted nervously at the sound of her voice.

//Mmm, I think I am quite a fun and fair playmate~ Pity you don't want to play, little mousey. Your human certainly does, but I'm afraid I loathe humans very much. Perhaps you would play on his behalf, hm?//

Her large, cool blue eyes flickered from the Azurill back to the human, and back again. She tilted her head to one side and brushed thoughtfully at her skirt and bows, allowing a moment of silence before she continued with her proposition.

//Hm, see, with you playing, there's four of your, which is really such a lovely number for playing games, don't you think? If there are four players, I could be generous. I could let two of your go. Oh, but you are wondering, how do I get to be one of the two that get to go? It is simple, really. In life, there are the winners, and then there are the dead.//

It was a grisly proposal, stated with such a light, airy, high-pitched tone. The three wild Pokemon on the ground began to shift their eyes around. Could she be serious- would she let two of them go free?

She spoke again, directly into Matt's mind, the voice still muffled and soft, repeating her offer in much simpler words, and keeping the dirty details from him, as she couldn't manage such a long explanation in telepathic speech.

"He plays with me... two go free."

After she spoke, an image of each of the Pokemon beneath her flashed through his mind. Togedemaru, Spinda, Foongus, Azurill.

More, and more creepy giggling. Wow. This was just getting better and better. He honestly couldn't tell if his own thoughts were sarcastic or not. On one hand, this seemed pretty bad. This.... Psychic wasn't friendly or kind, clearly. The cruel pokemon seemed sadistic. On the other.... It was interesting! Fun! Okay, maybe it was a dangerous, but wasn't a good, thrilling life supposed to have its dangers? It felt right. Not that he.... Actually knew for sure, even if he felt he should. More disconcerting thoughts.... Where had his certainty gone? Shouldn't he know these things well? No wait. Important things in front of him. Right. Right. Shut up, focus.

..... Telepathy. He instantly understood the quiet words in his mind as telepathy. Play the big kids? So, the psychic (presumably the one with the telepathy) thought of themself as a big kid. To be fair, he was human and didn't really have anything useful on him that he thought could be useful... He supposed he could throw the metal thing and try to run.... But he wasn't sure he'd be able to take all the pokemon she was torturing with him. They might take too long to encourage to come along with him. Besides, he wasn't sure that was really solving the problem.

Azurill did his best to glare up at Gothorita. Okay, it was clear he got a defective human. Alright. But... He wasn't sure he was willing to sacrifice himself for a human who'd challenged the Gothorita like this. But.... He also wasn't going to leave, and Azurill wasn't sure he was willing to see anyone dead here. Okay.... Okay. Maybe he was tougher than he thought? He hoped he was, anyway. This was.... Crazy. Everything about this was crazy. Staying here instead of turning tail was crazy. Clearly, he'd already caught the human's crazy.

Then a deal. The human couldn't hear, because humans didn't understand the language of pokemon, but instead used their own weird nonsense language that Azurill could at best read the tone of, but not understand. He was really tempted to use one of the words his Mama told him to never say at the Gothorita. This was a game, but playing with lives. He wasn't a hero, but he knew that this went far and beyond cruel. This wasn't a predator hunting its prey. This was messing with your food. Besides, he wasn't even sure Gothoritas did eat meat. But this... This would end with two of them dead. He wasn't optimistic and pretty sure what Gothorita meant was.... Azurill would only be able to save one.

Azurill.... He saw the flickering hope in the hostage pokemon's eyes at the proposal. He... He didn't have a choice did he? He began stepping forward, as the human was being told the proposal by the psychic.

He was about to say no, taking a moment to understand the proposal. He'd only met the blue, bouncy pokemon, but he wasn't the kind of person to bargain lives. At least, he didn't think he was. He hoped he wasn't. Yet, the blue, bouncy pokemon had already stepped forward.

His decision was made, and was he in any place to question it? Free choice was a thing, even as he felt an urge to scoop up the small mouse and run like the sky was falling.

He felt indecision strike him as the blue mouse stood in front of him, staring up at the Gothorita, the pokemon's decision made.

Azurill didn't want to fight. He didn't want to kill anyone. But... He didn't feel like he had a choice in this situation. "(She didn't say there were any rules....)" He murmured under his breath, too soft for anyone else to hear, even with better hearing. He pointed himself towards Spinda, and he let loose a stream of water, shutting his eyes tight to cope with the idea of attacking an innocent.

The Spinda cried out as the stream of water struck him, right in that tender spot between the chest and the shoulder. He had been in the process of attempting to stand, finally, after having been dropped like an abandoned doll on the ground by the Gothorita- only to be struck down again as he stumbled backward and tripped over his own feet from the force of the attack.

The water gun and Spinda's cry sent into effect a flurry of action.

"Rrrr!" with a strangled sound somewhere between a growl and a shout, the steely rodent wasted no time before it flung itself into the air towards the weakest among them: The Foongus. The poor mushroom had taken the worst beating from the Gothorita throughout the course of their "games" so far, and the Togedemaru knew it. This particular rodent didn't have time to show mercy, not when the risks were so high. He needed to win, and he needed to win fast. He didn't want to have to attack the others... but when it came down to his life and someone else's, he wanted to live.

He'd even attack that blue mouse, if it got weak enough- whatever it took to be one of the last two standing. The ones who the Gothorita would let go... hopefully.

The Foongus was too slow to dodge, and thus was hit by the Togedemaru as he leapt at him, the porcupine spinning around at the last minute and lashing out with the prickly spines that suddenly emerged from his back. The mushroom gave a weak cry and stumbled backward, barely catching his balance. Reacting without thinking, he automatically moved to sap the health of whoever was the weakest to him- which, he thought, would be the Azurill. The young and inexperienced and not-thinking-very-clearly mushroom didn't realize that the mouse didn't yet have a weakness to grass-type moves... nor did it realize what particular ability the Azurill had regarding grass moves. So the Foongus' attack was in vain, though the he did not realize it yet.

The Spinda himself, however, did not attack. He... couldn't... this wasn't right... he didn't want any part of this... This time, he stayed down. He wasn't dead or unconscious, but... he didn't know what to do.

At this point in the battle, it was every Pokemon for himself, with no real organization or teamwork. And many of the Pokemon were already quite weak. Things were looking alright for the Azurill, assuming he could maintain control of the battle.

The Gothorita watched from above, quite interested in the little game that she had arranged. //Oh, yes, attack the ugly one, first!// She cooed her appreciation as the Togedemaru attacked the Foongus. She stood ready to snatch back any of them who tried to escape, but they all seemed to caught up in the battle to consider that particular action.

Azurill's water attack had knocked Spinda off his feet immediately. He was not ready for this. Funny thing was how he always had to do things regardless of being ready or not. He'd had to start making it out on his own before he was ready. He'd had to deal with dodging predators on his own before he was ready. Now, he... Had to kill someone. He doesn't think anything could have ever prepared him for this messy situation. The idea of trying to get away without bloodshed... That hope had been dashed and gone up in smoke.

Glancing over, Azurill saw Togedemaru leaping at Foongus, he tried not to think too much about the pathetic cry of pain that the mushroom let out. He really needed to not think on it too much if he was going to get through this. He wasn't sure why, but he suddenly felt a pulse of strength wash over him. It was weird.

Azurill took another deep breath, slightly shaky in the inhale. Then he let loose another stream of water towards Spinda. He hated this game of Gothorita's. This wasn't fun or a game. This was life or death, and he couldn't understand the sadism. He was pretty sure he hated the ridiculous commentary she was offering.

The nameless human was surprised by the sudden spark into violence. He didn't like this. He didn't like violence. It wasn't right. It didn't have to be this way. It never had to be this way. There was a choice. Always a choice? Wasn't it? Always a choice, always with the choices. Some people just didn't want to make them. But was there always? His thoughts were frantic and almost seemed to be stuck in a loop as he watched. "Okay, just stop stop stop stop stop..." His mouth didn't seem to be any more coherent.

He found himself suddenly tugging at some.... Accessory around his neck. Nervous tic? Ooh, he had a nervous tic. Nice to be discovering things about himself. Re-discovering? Whatever. Oh, right. Sadist Gothorita and a tiny fight going on below. He had to assume it was a part of... Gothorita's game. She said 'play', hadn't she? This was all a game to her. "S'not a game...." He said quietly. "Shouldn't be a game, not a game, violence isn't fun, it isn't, it isn't...."

He didn't know what to do. Could he protect all of them from Gothorita? He wasn't sure how to make them stop fighting. What should he do? He didn't want to die. He knew that much. He didn't want to die. But he didn't see a solution that he would like and would actually be feasible.

His thoughts were stuck on a constant loop of panic.

This time, when the Azurill's water gun struck, the Spinda had begun to attempt to crawl away, unnoticed. He was moving oh so slowly, sort of dragging himself against the ground. He didn't want to hurt anybody. He wouldn't. He refused to play this game. He was struck by the stream of water- obviously being in no position to attempt to dodge- but remained silent. If he didn't cry out, if he played mostly dead except for trying to escape, little by little, scooting himself oh so slowly across the forest floor...

Don't kill me, please don't, please stop, he thought over and over, as if he could convince the Azurill to cease his attacks with the sheer power of the thoughts in his mind.

Meanwhile, the Togedemaru was showing no mercy to the Foongus, and feeling only slightly less guilty about it than the Azurill was about his fight against the Spinda. The round rodent charged for a close-range tackle; it wasn't incredibly effective, given that he didn't have much time or space to build up momentum, but the unfortunate mushroom was knocked completely over this time.

Seizing the opportunity- and panting heavily from the exertion of attacking so many times in quick succession- the Togedemaru jumped at the Foongus again, back-first almost as if performing a pile-driver. Right before the porcupine landed on the plant, his spines extended once again, impaling the Foongus, who gave a final twitch before falling absolutely still.

Then something caught the Gothorita's attention. //Oh no, my love, are you trying to flee from me? No, no, you break my heart by doing so! Stay, please, you will stay, won't you~?// The psychic type spoke in her sickening, lilting speech. Using her telekinesis, she gently nudged the Spinda, who had been inching away, ever so slowly. She flopped the hapless bear over onto his back, and then pinned it down.

The Spinda found it hard to breathe. This was the end, wasn't it? Not how he expected to go. He thought maybe he should close his eyes? But soon enough he wouldn't be able to see anything at all, right? Unless he became a ghost, but he didn't really want to do that, and hoped that wouldn't happen. So he'd just... enjoy the view. He looked past the Gothorita, up at the sun streaming through the bare branches of the trees, and tried his best to quell the panic that burned in his veins and squeezed at his lungs and moistened his eyes.

//He's all yours, now, little mouse~// The Gothorita's eyes glittered as she stared expectantly at the young Azurill.

Azurill's water gun struck true, and he winced openly as Spinda began trying to crawl away. It was... Painful to watch. Spinda was the one who hadn't tried to participate in Gothorita's game, and yet here Azurill was, trying to kill the normal-type bear. He didn't think he was capable of it. He'd always been the prey, trying to dodge predators and look out for himself... But he'd never killed anyone before, but it seemed like he wouldn't get to leave without committing his first act of murder.

Azurill was distracted by Spinda's weak crawling, to notice Togedemaru killing Foongus. The blue mouse's breath became shaky when Gothorita spoke up again. He wasn't broken like the other three pokemon... Well, two since Foongus was dead. But... Gothorita struck fear, cold like being struck with an icy water-type attack, into him. The psychic made his skin crawl and he wished he had the power to make her shut up. But he couldn't. He could only play along and hope that Gothorita would make good on her promise.

The psychic dragged Spinda back towards Azurill, pinning him down onto the ground. Gothorita didn't even have the decency to force him down on his belly, so maybe Azurill wouldn't have to look at his moist eyes and visible panic. This was not the time for empathy and the reminder was terrifying. Azurill hated that he couldn't even keep his eyes open as he kept attacking, striking down the helpless Spinda with another water-type attack.

Meanwhile, the human who couldn't remember his own name had actually been watching the large, round rodent strike down the mushroom, the latter stop moving. Despite his chaotic thoughts and denials repeating a litany in his mind, he was still able to stay in reality... Somewhat. Though, when the mushroom stopped moving, he began hyperventilating, breath leaping down his throat, even as air was forced out. He wasn't sure when, but his hands had moved to hold his head and squeeze, as if the action would alter the reality before him. "Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop..." He couldn't stop his lips moving over the same word again and again.

When had his face met the grass? Wow, this was all going fast and he could barely hear his own thoughts over the screaming begging repeating from his lips and his own palpable horror at this situation. It didn't help how the psychic one was pinning down the bear, so the blue mouse he'd found himself with in the beginning could murder him.

Ahahahahah this was a horrible situation. He knew horrible situations except that wasn't right he couldn't think of any. But he knew. He knew he knew. But there was a piece missing and that piece was driving him crazier than he felt as he couldn't help his panic pushing out his reason and stealing control of his limbs.

..... Was he supposed to be this useless?

The Gothorita watched with an interested and eager expression as the little blue mouse fired another water attack and the drenched and pinned bear; the positive expression quickly faded into impatience and then anger as the Spinda still seemed to be barely holding on to consciousness.

//Incompetence.// The Gothorita's eyes glittered again, this time coldly, as she sent out a burst of psychic energy at the Spinda. There was a cracking noise; a tiny drip of blood seeped from the unfortunate (and now dead) Pokemon's nostril and went drip, drip onto the white snow beneath.

//Listen, little boy. In this world, you're either strong, or you're dead. You? You're not strong.//

And with those parting words, the Gothorita jumped gracefully to a higher branch of the tree, then into another tree, disappearing from sight. The horror was over, leaving the human and his Azurill alone by themselves. Well... almost by themselves.

The Foongus and the Spinda were left lying there; the Togedemaru collapsed onto the ground, sitting in the snow, a blank look on his face. He didn't seem to be processing the previous events very well. Every now and again his eyes would flicker to the Azurill or the human, but it seemed he couldn't stay focused on anything for more than a second or two.

But... they were alive. The two of them, the winners, were left alive. Just like the Gothorita had promised. That was... something, wasn't it?

Azurill's shaky breathing got slightly worse as he sensed the sharp nosedive of Gothorita's mood. Spinda wasn't... Dead yet. What would she do for this? Would she renege on the.... The sort of deal she enforced on everyone here? He was trying to recapture his breathing patterns, but it was hard under these circumstances.

Azurill winced at Gothorita's sudden words, and his breath hitched in his throat when a sickening cracking noise accompanied Gothorita's last strike against Spinda, making the bear go still. He couldn't help the morbid relief that he actually hadn't just killed someone.... Even if he'd gotten too close. Ah... Ha.... Ha.... Azurill actually wanted to spend some time screaming... If only it wasn't likely to attract predators and other pokemon like this sadist of a psychic.

He tried to take a deep breath. He wasn't strong. He was cowardly and... He was still alive. He wanted to be stay alive. He'd be as cowardly as he could be to survive.

Then finally.... Gothorita left them, leaving Foongus' and Spinda's corpses... With the survivors being Azurill and Togedemaru. When Azurill turned to look, he saw uh... The human and Togedemaru both seemed a little out of it. Azurill shook, he didn't blame them. The human seemed... Like the gentle sort. Like the kind that would get killed. He was... He was supposed to take care of the human or something, that's why he was brought here and given a strange sort of tether that couldn't be seen? Maybe it was because this human would probably die if he didn't. He wasn't sure what to think of the fact that he seemed to keep his head through all this the best.

"(Bye... I hope you're able to stay safe now...)" He whispered to Togedemaru, though he wasn't sure if he was hurt. Azurill moved over to the human and eyed him carefully, he still seemed... Not in a great state.

The cracking noise of death had spent the human into another spiraling state of panic overriding his choices to maybe move or do something. This one seemed shorter-lived, and slowly... He was able to reconnected with his surroundings, and he finally noticed the blue mouse right before him, looking up at him. Ah. Oh. Yes. Uh..... Yes.

"Ah, hello. S'over now, right? We're safe. We're good. Yes, all that good and safe stuff." He rambled, slowly getting up to his feet from his position on the floor. He didn't feel okay. He really didn't, but he was trying to smile anyway, because maybe if he pretended he was okay hard enough he could be. At least almost. Almost would do.

The blue mouse didn't move as the human approached the big round mouse that.... Wasn't one of the dead. He tried not to shiver at the corpses or break down again. He crouched down and tried to ask softly. "Hey. Are you alright?"

The Gothorita's final words resounded in the Togedemaru's mind, too, even though they hadn't been meant for him. Strong, or dead. Strong, or dead. He wasn't dead, but he very well could have been. He had gotten lucky... and he didn't like that. He was glad to be alive, but next time, he didn't want his life to be in someone else's hands. He would get strong. He would protect himself. He never wanted to kill, never again, never again... But he never wanted to feel as weak as he had felt when he was playing the Gothorita's games.

At the Azurill's words, the Togedemaru's eyelids flickered and his gaze shifted toward the other rodent, though he didn't make eye contact.. He seemed to attempt to rouse himself a little bit, shifting his round body back and forth as he was brought a little bit out of his murky thoughts.

He watched as the Azurill roused the human, not really out of purposeful interest but more from the fact that they were the only thing moving or speaking in the vicinity.

But when the human began speaking to him directly, the Togedemaru managed to almost fully snap out of his stupor. The human had crouched down before him and spoken a soft question. The porcupine couldn't understand the exact words, but the tone and the inflection was pretty clear, so he did know it was a question. And, given the situation that they had been through, he felt he could make a pretty good guess at what question he had been asked. Likely, the human was asking after his health or well-being.

//I am... alive, still.// Then the Togedemaru looked past the human to address the Azurill a bit hesitantly. //Thanks, um... thanks for... thanks for not killing me.//

All things considered, the battle had gone much better and quicker than it could have. Still, it was something he wished he had never experienced and something he was determined to never experience again. He would get strong. And he would never let anyone push him around. And he wouldn't have to rely on the help of strangers, or the luck of the draw, to stay alive.

Azurill had noticed that... Togedemaru couldn't meet his eyes. He guessed that was... Alright. This whole thing had been... Horrible, and honestly he was having trouble working up the energy to maybe try and meet his eyes. Not that Azurill was actively social or friendly, but he'd never felt this... Drain of anxiety that he felt. He wasn't sure if anxious drain was something that... Existed, but it felt as if the only way to explain the shivers just underneath his skin.

The human wasn't sure his words had gotten to the... Round spiky rodent, and he didn't really understand the squeaking response. He did understand when he was being talked past. Anyway... It seemed that he wasn't despondent anymore! That was... Nice, given the situation. He, himself kind of wanted to laugh or maybe cry. Maybe both? "Can you cry and laugh at the same time...?" He muttered to himself staring at the grass, before ripping himself out of his own thoughts by clearing his throat. "Okay, okay, okay. We're all okay. Yes. Focus on that, focus on that..." He began at a normal volume, before deteriorating back into muttering....

While Azurill listened to Togedemaru... Sort of. He wasn't doing a great job of eye contact either but... He was... Okay, he guessed. "(.... Er..... Y-Yeah... It's... Okay.... Didn't want any of this...)" He responded, making his last comment barely audible. He wasn't sure he wanted to talk about this, actually.... This whole thing was a mess, and maybe next time he should just... Stay out of it. Go back to being a coward. Maybe he could teach the human how to survive by being a coward too. Cowardice might be.... Well.... Cowardly, but he liked it better than... Dying or being a violent murderer. "(... So.... Uh.... I guess... This is the end of it.)" Azurill said awkwardly, not sure else how to describe the parting of ways of the two of them, considering they had met briefly in... Quite frankly, horrifying and traumatizing circumstances.

The wild porcupine nodded his head to the Azurill's words, and made a soft grunt as the fellow rodent made his goodbyes. The Togedemaru had no intention of stopping them from leaving. He had.. some thinking to do. Some recovery. He imagined the same was likely true for the Azurill, though perhaps to a lesser degree given that the Togedemaru had been under the Gothorita's whim for far longer. Still, that forced battle had been...

The young creature continued his train of thought, silent and still as the fallen snow that surrounded him. Matt and Azzy would be free to collect themselves and head toward the nearby village without interruption. The Togedemaru was lost in thought and had accepted the departure of the human and Pokemon pair, even though he didn't speak a verbal farewell. And it seemed there weren't any other Pokemon in the area- perhaps the Gothorita had frightened any others away. Regardless, Matt and Azzy were free. And, thanks to Azzy, the Togedemaru was free, as well, to continue his life as he saw fit.

The Gothita line sure is developing a bad reputation on Terrene. First Lillian the murder imp, now the Gothorita who apparently is Jigsaw reincarnate. Hope you enjoyed this thread, even though it wasn't exactly what you were expecting when you requested to afflict your characters with "harm and suffering."

I wish Matt and Azzy better luck in their future adventures~
