Victor and Pixie are just going for a walk. Sure.
VICTOR
PIXIE
445 Words

Victor and Pixie were heading into the forest for a walk. There was no reason for him to be out here though. Everyone was fed and it was not a day for training. He wasn’t in the mood to be foraging for berries or collecting objects to see if he could sell the. The young man was just looking to get away from the city for a bit. He had spent some time in Crater and being there made him realize there was so much more than just Ashfield.

He didn’t know how he managed to do so, but the trainer had won the tournament and upon hearing the speech from Beta, he felt like his abilities were being wasted here in this lawless city. The trainer considered making a permanent home there in Crater if it meant he’d have the opportunity to put his training to use. He wanted to help Beta’s men find Omega and stop him from whatever chaos he was causing. Victor had done a task or two for the man they called a witch but it did not mean he was loyal to him.

The trainer was beginning to think too much about things that weren’t going to happen anytime soon. He came out here to clear his mind and he was still stressing out over the decision to leave or not. There were plenty of reasons for him to leave. Work, an actual home to rest his head and he wouldn’t have to worry so much about food and supplies for his pokemon. As far as he knew, Beta took care of those who worked for him.

All of Victor’s pokemon were in their balls. Typically he had Ghost out for these walks but with the heat rising, she wasn’t doing so well in the hot forest. At least, not for too long before she felt like she was melting. The fox preferred colder temperatures and the past few months of spring and summer have not been kind to her.

He did have one pokemon out with him and it was only because he hadn’t bound them to a pokeball yet. Pixie was the bounsweet he had befriended in the spring and though he had her for a few months, the two had yet to truly bond. She had really joined him to be with Wisp, his budew. Still, Victor took care of her as he did with the rest of his pokemon. The fruit just didn’t get much training as the others did since she wasn’t really into fighting. Only if she had to, even then, she was often paired with a partner who would watch her back.

Victor's stroll in the forest turned out to be rather quiet. Nothing disturbed him and his berry-shaped Pokémon, but after many minutes of walking, they would be able to start hearing voices of other Pokemon. There were a few muffled, high-pitched voices, talking one after another and sometimes all at the same time in excited tones. They were coming from behind a few bushes located on Victor's right side, but due to how quiet the Pokemon were talking, it wouldn't be possible to hear them until the man was a few steps away - and even then, he couldn't see the source, as the Pokemon were apparently small and hiding among the plants.

The quiet voices could not be very interesting to the trainer, but his Pokemon would be able to listen in to parts of the conversation and hear what was being talked about.

"It is about time we get our revenge!" one of the voices sounded decisive, even if squeaky.

"Revenge! Revenge!" another voice, even more high-pitched, chanted enthusiastically.

"Yeah! Who do they think they are? We refuse to let our kind be eaten any longer!"

Whether Victor and Pixie would stay and listen in some more, they would hear another voice coming from further down the path they were walking up higher, as if talking from a tree. This voice was like a louder and stronger version of the quiet voices they had only just heard. Despite the difference in the tone, this new sound echoed the previous ones, repeating the same words:

"Revenge! Revenge!"

The weaker voices fell silent. The atmosphere in this part of the forest suddenly grew tense as each side was seemingly listening in to the other, waiting for someone else to make the next move... Until finally, the weakest of the voices heard so far spoke up, barely audibly, "W-who was that?"

Its companions were not responding, at least not in words that Victor and Pixie could hear. The tense moment of waiting continued.

Curiosity killed the human.
VICTOR
PIXIE
204 Words

Victor was so lost in thought that he would barely notice the chattering that was going on. It was really none of his concern anyway. The only reason it caught his attention was Pixie shaking nervously.

The trainer wanted to know why she was freaking out. Apparently the bounsweet picked up on the noises and she swore she could hear the word 'revenge.' It wasn't like Victor would hear it even if he listened closely, but the fact that the fruit pokemon could, bothered her.

She tried giving him a warning. The bounsweet tugged at his shirt and tried pointing toward the direction of the chattering to warn the trainer to stay away. This was probably a bad idea as this only peaked the trainer's curiosity. Instead of sending him off in the other direction, he now wanted to know what was going on.

Pixie kept trying to tug at him with her teeth, but he wasn't listening. She curled back up into his bag, worried that they were about to find danger. Victor cautiously moved through the vines, trying to stay out of sight of the wild pokemon. He just wanted to see and not interfere. Not unless there was a reason to.

As the bushes were spread aside, the owners of the muffled, high-pitched voices were revealed to Victor and Pixie. There were three Pokemon, one of which had not spoken yet, and all of them were staring at the man with wide, unblinking eyes, that showed pure terror.

One of them was a thin, dark yellow colored centipede with a horn on its head. This one snapped out of her shock first as she gulped and lowered her head as though she aimed her horn at the human. Encouraged by her defensive reaction, a black insect with a large, round head, crawled up to Weedle, clinging to her from the side for protection. The last bug was a cocoon with legs and wings, who stayed still, piercing the human and his companion with a cold gaze.

"So you're the ones we heard! You tried to trick us into thinking you're one of us! Unforgivable!" Weedle called out these brave words despite her defensive and shaky posture, encouraged by Scatterbug's closeness. She didn't want to let her friends down, despite her own fear.

"T-they really sounded just like me! That was so scary!" Scatterbug whined, more concentrated on sharing her worries with Weedle and Nincada than dealing with the danger in human form.

"That was so scary!"

The three bugs' expressions went blank as the same voice from earlier echoed Scatterbug's words once more, even as the human and the berry Pokemon were right there.

"There's someone else," Nincada concluded in an emotionless tone. The three bugs looked over each other, temporarily ignoring the human's presence.

"W-Weedle, what do we do now? How can we plot revenge when someone's eavesdropping? What if it's one of... them?"

Weedle frowned in focus, giving Scatterbug's concerns some thought. The bugs were silent for a moment.

Don't bug me.
VICTOR
PIXIE
204 Words

Peeking his head through the bushes, Victor spotted the insects. He had seem their species before while coming through the forest but he never had to deal with them as far as a threat went. The trainer could tell they were intimidated by him and he was likely disturbing whatever it was that they were doing. Pixie didn’t want to deal with any of these bugs. She could see they would likely only attack if Victor stepped any further and to be completely honest, a lot of bugs had poison as a defense mechanism.

The bounsweet did not like poison as she had felt its effects before it would do her best to avoid it. Victor backed away slowly, letting the bugs know he’d be no trouble. If they decided to pursue him then he’d have to defend himself of course. If allowed, Victor would continue down another path. He wasn’t heading anywhere in particular, just a walk. “Sorry, about that, little one. Let’s try not to go looking for trouble if we can, yeah?” he said petting the berry on her head.

Pixie had no idea what Victor was thinking going off into a bush not knowing what was beyond it. She also had no idea what he was saying, but the pet on the head felt nice. She doesn’t know what she was being praised for but she wouldn’t turn down a kind gesture. The bounsweet just hoped the human wouldn’t go seeking anymore trouble.

The thoughtful silence of the bugs was followed by the human simply walking away. Weedle started a relieved sigh, but she masked it with a forced cough. She didn't want to appear concerned around her comrades. Scatterbug, at least, still clung to her for comfort. It was no longer the human that they worried about, but neither of the bugs really liked humans. They were unpredictable and possibly dangerous.

"There, it's all safe now. You don't have to be hugging me anymore," Weedle mumbled, a little flustered.

"O-oh, but... It's getting cold!" Scatterbug came back with the excuse on the spot, but she had to admit, the air was getting a little more chilly.

Victor left the bugs alone, but it only took a few steps of his before another creature marked its presence known. A pair of blue wings flapped on a nearby tree's branch and the Pokemon took flight. It hovered over the man and the berry, showing off its body adorned with feathers of various colors: blue on the wings, green on the belly, yellow on the chest, white on the collar, black on the head and tail. The bird's eyes were focused on the man and it cawed, repeating the same sound from earlier.

"Revenge! That was so scary!"

The bird then swooped down toward the ground. It stood on the grass, tilting its head to the sides curiously, then pecking at the ground as if it was looking for something. Either way, it was minding its own business and showed no signs of fear, despite the human's closeness.

Good bird...Don't attack plz
VICTOR
PIXIE
262 Words

Victor was glad he was able to get away from the bugs with no problem. Pixie was more than glad as well. She couldn’t see herself fighting off those bugs, even though she knew her human wouldn’t allow it. He’d likely have used another of his pokemon to fight the bugs for her. It made her feel bad that this was typically the default option but perhaps if she actually trained more. It was just way too scary to think about.

As he turned away, however, the trainer would find himself a few feet away from a strange bird. He had never seen one as such and it was honestly interesting that it was able to repeat other pokemon sounds. This only meant that he had no idea what abilities it possessed and he would have liked to know. After all, he didn’t exactly have a pokedex like Sonia did. She’d be able to scan and check the bird for information. Part of Victor was tempted to battle it to see what it could do, but he didn’t want to waste unnecessary energy.

The trainer was also worried about putting his bounsweet at risk. Victor wondered if it was actually the fruit pokemon who attracted this bird with her scent. If that was the case then it would be unlikely that the bird would go away anytime soon. He’d still try though. The trainer, carefully aimed to creep around the bird, as to not disturb it. The chatot seemed busy anyway and uninterested in him. Pixie was extremely nervous as she knew very well what bird wanted with her.

As the trainer and the berry were trying to sneak away, Chatot shot them a cold glance. Why weren't they admiring his beautiful colors? Why weren't they saying anything? How was he supposed to learn when there was nothing but silence? Mimicking those silly bugs was getting boring, all they ever did was talk about big plans that never came true. It was certainly fun to trick them into thinking he was one of them and then do a surprise attack, but his real goal were the humans. Learning to mimic human words and then sneaking into their cities to manipulate them into giving him food and admiration... Ah, that was the dream!

He didn't like the fact that he was not getting attention. He was being so nice and pretty, after all! He raised his head, narrowing his eyes at the human. Chatot wasn't going to let them ignore him.

"Let's watch you try to get away from this..." he mumbled quietly to himself. The following sounds were much louder. The bird began chirping a soothing, delicate melody, rocking his heads to the side with the rhythm. If all worked out nicely and the human and the berry listened, they would likely start feeling sleepy and relaxed. The temptation to lie down and sleep should be so hard to resist that they might just collapse on the ground right there... Chatot's melody took a more cheerful tone at the thought. He wanted to laugh at his own clever scheme, but he had to finish the song first.

Pixie's ability activated: Sweet Veil.

With Victor and Pixie attempting to just walk away, the chatot seemed to be irritated. He would have just let it be and it could have just gone about it’s day but the think was looking for trouble. At least this is what it seemed like when the bird tried singing them to sleep. Pixie knew how to deal with this kind of situation. She had dealt with this before, always running from birds who were chasing after her. The bounsweet had birds sing before, trying to put her to sleep so that they could scoop her up and eat her.

Little did they know she had a special ability. The sweet smell that she gave off made it difficult for those who smelled it to fall asleep. The sweet aroma would keep them up. Pixie spun the leaves on her head and the scent surrounded her and Victor. She did this as soon as she heard the tune coming from the chatot. There was no way he was going to put them to sleep and try and eat her. She knew she couldn’t fight the bird but at least she could protect Victor from being placed unconscious. The rest was up to him.

Victor had seen her use this ability before and he knew what it meant. Her sweet veil was to prevent teammates and herself from falling asleep. The singing that the chatot was doing was to put them to sleep. This was a hostile move, at least to the trainer. Victor reached into his pocket and pulled out a pokeball. He needed a pokemon who could battle this bird. “Let’s go, Bre’r!” he called as a small brown rabbit burst from the black ball with red and gold rings. The buneary bounced out in front of his trainer, wondering why he was summoned.

He looked up at Victor was who looking down at him. The trainer placed himself in a fighting stance, holding up his fists like a boxer, to show the rabbit that it was time to battle. Knowing what the movements meant, the rabbit cocked back his fists in preparation to battle. He turned around and spotted the chatot. He didn’t know what it had done to make Victor want to battle it but that didn’t matter.

“Bre’r used Power-up Punch!” the trainer called out as the rabbit leapt forward to attack the bird with his ear.

After a failed attempt at putting the trainer and the berry to sleep, they turned to him and attacked. This wasn't exactly what Chatot had in mind when he looked for attention; he had been hoping for a more friendly interaction despite his little trick. However, he couldn't be picky now. A battle gave him an opportunity to show off his skills and cause admiration anyway.

The rabbit was too fast for Chatot to be able to use his natural advantage: the ability to fly. He was in the middle of spreading his wings in an attempt to escape upwards when the powerful ear unrolled and hit him in the beak. Chatot quacked as he was tossed back, but he quickly regained balance and flew up successfully. Once midair, the bird glared the rabbit down.

"Revenge! Revenge!" he cried out, mimicking the bugs' voices. At the same time, he released sound waves toward the opponent.

The buneary was glad he landed a hit. This bird was too colorful for his own good and he needed to go down. Though to be honest, the rabbit would have liked if he had all those colors. He was just so brown and boring but still, he took ride in his fur. Aiming to retaliate, the chatot shouted about revenge at Bre’r. He sounded like a bug though, so it confused the rabbit.

Coming from the beak of this bird was a soundwave that shot back the buneary. It was going to be tough to attack back while he was up in the air. Victor knew a way to handle this but it was risky as, the buneary would be high up and could risk getting hurt. He had to take a chance if it meant, taking this bird down. “Bre’r over here!” he called to the buneary.

Bre’r looked back, wondering what his human wanted. Victor kneeled down with his hands folded together. He was going to try to launch the rabbit up higher so that it could land an attack. Bre’r looked at the cupped hands and remembered them doing this in a training session against the ledyba. The bug always used his flight as an advantage and the only way the rabbit could reach him was by being projectiled into the air. This is why he needed a long ranged attack.

Hopping over to Victor’s palms, the rabbit tucked himself in right before Victor tossed Bre’r up at an angle toward the bird. Jumping off his palms at the land second of contact, the buneary leapt toward the chatot, spinning through the air, kicking down his foot to pound the bird if he could. If the rabbit were to miss, he’d come crashing toward the ground and Victor would be there to catch him.

Despite moving up to avoid the pesky rabbit, Chatot failed to escape the incoming attack. His eyes opened wide at the sight of a combination attack, based on the cooperation between the human and his pet. It was the very reason why Chatot wanted to impress humans. They were so convenient, sometimes...

But he had little time to think about that. The rabbit kicked him in the face. The bird rolled backward midair, quacking in pain gracelessly. His face twisted in anger. Not even flight was a salvation to him and his beautiful self did not deserve this kind of treatment. He was only thinking of ways to get back at the annoying rabbit, but all of a sudden, a chilling wind blew from the back. Chatot shook. Not even the heat of the battle was enough to warm him.

"This isn't over! I just need a little break and I'll be right with you," Chatot called out to the rabbit in a tone that suggested they were merely playing a game that could be interrupted at any time. Without waiting for an answer, he turned and flew back to his tree, where he sat on a branch and hid his head between his wings.

True to Chatot's reaction, the temperature had started to decrease. It was hard to see from their location, but clouds were beginning to gather in the sky, high above the treeline. It was the continuous cold wind that really made the air seem so chilly out of nowhere. As it howled, the sound of flapping wings could be heard from one side.

"Gosh! It blew me right off the tree! Since when is it so cold here?!"

"Yeah, isn't it like summer or something?! I just wanna sleep!"

"Hey, no worries, girl, we'll find some warm cave! It'll be all just fine!"

Two bats were flying right past Victor and his Pokemon. One of them was small and dark blue and the other resembled a fuzzy light blue ball with wings and a pink nose. They didn't seem to care much about the human, although their movements were frantic, as if they were in a hurry. The larger of the two, a female, scoffed.

"It better be quiet, I need my beauty sleep. A lady can't just sleep in the cold!"

Moving along now.
VICTOR
BRE'R
209 Words

Victor and his pokemon were relieved that the chatot had fled. Bre'r saw no reason to continue fighting if the opponent was fleeing and Victor wasn't about to pursue the bird. Pixie was glad it was gone as well and hoped they would head back to camp soon.

Bre'r returned to his trainer's side for now. He was not looking to go back in the ball, having been hyped up from battle. It would be nice at this point to stretch his legs. With the bird out of the way and the bugs out of mind, Victor would notice the sudden change in lighting and temperature. The sky darkened and it was getting cooler out.

It was comforting for him and Bre'r but for the bounsweet, she was missing the warmth and sunlight. Victor noticed a cold wing blowing their direction and with it two bat-like creatures. They didn't seem to be aggressive so the trainer saw no reason to interact with them. Though as he learned just a moment ago, ignoring pokemon could lead to a battle. For now he'd keep Bre'r out his ball in case things got intense. He'd try to continue back home for now and nope the bats would continue minding their own business.
