Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

The Jolteon crashed into the drilbur as the budew drained energy from it as well. Between the two of them, and the damage already issued to it earlier, the pokemon was killed. Well, with those two killed, one unconscious, and the rock just... sitting there like a rock, it seemed the battle had come to an end. Leona finished wrapping her leg, tying of the end tightly to ensure it wouldn't come undone. She put some pressure on it, feeling the light sting and taking in the damage. It wasn't bad - it should heal up just fine, so long as she keeps it clean.

Carefully, the woman stood back up, testing her hurt leg with pressure. Now that the adrenaline was calming down a bit with the group not in immediate danger, she was feeling the pain a bit more than before. Clenching her teeth, she kept it to herself. She wasn't about to cry out in pain or anything, not seeking the attention of the man across from her, who was simply her to find ore and leave, just as she was. Her eyes looked around at the wild creatures once more, landing on the bat lying on the ground taking quick breathes.

Truly, she felt it was best to give the creature a quick, merciful death as opposed to letting it die slowly from the damage that was inflicted. Even if the damage wasn't life-threatening, the world wasn't so kind that she believe it would simply have the chance to recover and continue living. No, something else in this mountain would hunt and kill it, and inflict likely more pain than if she put it down. The only option that could ensure its survival was if the pokemon came with them, but she wasn't about to adopt the bat. Still, she supposed, given the man's current party of pokemon she assumed weren't just given to him, she should give him the chance.

She looked at Victor, looking at his eyes that almost seemed pained from the death they'd just delivered, and motioned to the bat. "Do you want to save it, or should I end it's suffering?" The question was simple and blunt. It would require time and effort to bring the bat back to full health likely, and she wasn't interested in it. Though it wouldn't exactly yield a significant amount of meat either, so she wasn't going to argue that they should kill it. If he wanted it, she'd let him try to capture it. If not, she would draw her blade and approach the bat, preparing. If this was required, she would tell Victor and his pokemon to look away, giving them the chance to not have to watch her as they seemed uncomfortable with death, before bringing the blade down into the body of the little bat.

Whichever way that went, she would walk over to the two corpses near her partner. Jolteon was clearly pretty hurt, so she'd need to help take care of that. She idly wondered, before picking up the bodies, what Victor's opinion would be on taking the moles for meat. She would be willing to share and, in the end, didn't care what his thoughts on it was. They were dead now, and there was nothing to do about that. And meat came from killing pokemon, so she was not shy as she thought about taking the corpses with them as they continued in. But first, she needed to tend to the fox.

Carefully setting herself on the ground, grunting a bit from placing her injured leg incorrectly as she did so, she pulled her bag around her back. Shuffling through the opening, she pulled out the container with the strange purple contents, knowing it to be called a potion, from what she'd been told. Opening the container, she put some on her fingers and felt the odd texture, before focusing on the pokemon. Jolteon had caught on to what she was doing, and happily moved herself to the ground to give good vantage, as well as shifting to give her short access to her wounded parts. The woman massaged the medicine into her fur in the key spots, ending with running her fingers along the Jolteon's head.

At some point she'd become attached to this creature.

She got herself back up once the electric-type was taken care of, and leaned on her good leg to reach down. The empty bottle was stashed back in the bag, which was open and on the tunnel floor. Then, she picked up the dead moles and carefully placed them in her bag, sparing a glance at Victor. "I'll share, if you want. Just figured this would be easier to carry." Her words were a bit softer, but still there. She didn't know what was going on in his head, but didn't want him to turn on her. They still needed to find the metal before they could leave, so she needed to not get him upset or pissed. She wasn't very good at detecting others' emotions though, so there was only so much she could do.

Once he was ready as well, she'd nod and start heading into the tunnel once more, ready to get this metal and get out of here.

Victor Emerson: Used Heavy Ball on Geodude

@Kaien

There wasn’t much that Victor could be done about Spirit’s leg. He’d recover with care but for now he had to rest. Victor pulled out his ball and returned the bug to it. It was a shame but things like this were likely to happen here when they stepped into dangerous territory. Ghost rubbed her head against her trainer’s leg as a way to comfort him. All he could do in response was pet her head.

With jolteon having defeated the drilbur entirely and Wisp having helped...maybe? Victor stepped over to the corpse of the second dead mole to pick up the seedling. The budew wasn’t entirely sure if it was his actions or the yellow fox’s that took down the drilbur but he wanted to imagine that it was all him. The seedling allowed his trainer to lift him up. “You did a good job, Wisp,” Victor said calmly. There wasn’t too much enthusiasm based on the situation that had just occurred but he was proud of the budew for giving an effort. He always helped as best as he could.

Off to the side, Victor would see Leo, testing her injured leg. He didn’t know the girl at all but she was his quest partner at the moment and fighting together kind of qualified as a reason to be concerned for her well-being. She had turned her eyes toward him and began asking him a question. She wanted to know if he wanted to save the zubat or end it. The trainer thought it over for a quick moment and realized that if he didn’t want to take it with him then it was probably best to let it go. He nodded his head at her giving her the approval to do what she needed to do. “But first…” he spoke, pulling out a ball from his pocket.

Victor approached the petrified rock with arms that had been on the sidelines this whole time. He had seen enough death and didn’t need to see another dealt to one of his allies. “Sorry about this mess little guy. It didn’t have to go this way I assure you that,” the trainer went on even if the legless stone had no idea what he was saying or even aware of his presence. Victor expanded the gray pokeball from his pocket and tapped it against the head of the geodude. He knew the rock type would resent him but perhaps over time he and his pokemon could be it’s new team.

With that attempt made, Victor was ready to allow Leona to kill the zubat. Turning his attention back to the girl he noticed her stuff the dead moles into her bag. She seemed to be collecting them for food or whatever other value they had. It was none of his business but it wasn’t something he’d do. She offered to share with him but he shook his head in disagreement. “No, they’re all yours,” he spoke warmly with a slight smirk.

The girl was different than him but she was doing nothing wrong. Leona was a survivor and everyone had their own ways to do so. Still aware of the injury on her leg, Victor stepped over with his pokemon. “You know, I don’t mind helping you walk,” said Victor. “Like a crutch.” It was the least he could do. He didn’t need her limping through the entire dungeon and hurting her leg anymore than she already had.

@Kaien @Shasyu

The Geodude didn't so much as twitch or even blink while the humans and their Pokemon took stock of one another's well being and began to clean up themselves and the battlefield. The unconscious bat provided no resistance to Leona's grasp; although the tiny creature's muscles felt taut and strained beneath his fur and skin, it was due to the paralysis and not due to any effort the bat was consciously making to move. He perished easy at Leona's hand.

As Victor began to approach the Geodude, life seemed to seep back into the rock golem. His eyes refocused onto the human that approached him- probably for the better, so he didn't have to see the corpses of his friends unceremoniously bagged by the other human- and his fists lifted off the floor. He brought his stony fists and held them in position in front of him as he stared blankly at the human who spoke to him in some language that he did not understand.

The tone was... gentle? Gentle? The human who held at least some of the blame for the death of his three closest friends was speaking to him gently?

His thoughts were interrupted before they could even really get going, as he was suddenly tapped on the head and sucked out of conscious existence.

The ball shook once. Twice.

capture attempt!
A Heavy Ball's chances don't activate unless the Pokemon is hundreds of pounds (it varies depending on what game you're referencing, but for Terrene we decided on 330 lbs), while the average weight of a sexually mature Geodude comes in at only 45 lbs. As such, the regular pokeball catch rate will apply, so, 30% on a relatively healthy, uninjured Pokemon. RNG says... 58. Ouch, no go.

As he reappeared in a flash, the gears of his mind began whirring.

A shout rang out, echoing off the walls of the tunnel. His rage was catching up with him: rage at himself, rage at his dead comrades, rage at the situation, rage at these humans. Propelled by his rage, a fist shot out at Victor's kneecap, his rocky arm and fist a blur as they shot towards their target.

Victor Emerson

@Kaien

With three out of four of the wild pokemon being dead and the last wiggling back and forth in Victor’s heavy ball, the trainer and his pokemon expected the battle to pretty much be over. He didn’t know why he assumed the ball to just click shut and that the two trainers would be on their way but when the ball failed to capture, the trainer hopped back as the burst of light manifested from the ball. Victor wouldn’t know what was to happen when the geodude would emerge but it was highly possible that the pokemon would retaliate. Fortunately for him, his instincts were right. Seeing the punch drive forward, Victor barely dodged the rock hard fist that would have likely broken any bone it crashed into.

Victor could not be upset with the geodude for trying to handicap him but he couldn’t allow it. He looked to Ghost, who had been waiting beside him. The trainer nodded to the fox who typically took this as a sign of approval. She knew she had to defend her trainer. The vulpix inhaled deeply before letting out a cold breath at the rock type. The cold would likely affect its ground typing more than its rock.

Wisp saw the geodude make his attempt to harm his trainer. The seedling was slightly hesitant to do something but after this moment of bravery prior he still had adrenaline rushing through his body. Ghost had taken quite and bit of damage and he wasn’t sure she could handle the healthy rock type. The budew could contribute his assistance by using his only offensive move. Wisp aimed his stem as it opened up to sap energy from the geodude.

It was a shame that Victor’s team had to take out the rock pokemon when it didn’t seem to want to fight in the first place. Perhaps if the trainer didn’t make a capture attempt they could have left the creature behind to remain in its fear and confusion. It was going to die now if it continued to fight. The trainer would allow it to flee if it survived the retaliation from Victor’s team.

637 words - @Shasyu
Leona hesitated a moment in dealing with the bat as Victor indicated he wanted to do something first. As he turned to approach the rock, she positioned herself, hiding the knife with her body from the sight of the geodude. She supposed she could see the value in the pokemon not watching her execute one of its friends, though they'd already killed the other two so it wasn't like this would make much of a difference. Either way, it didn't really make a difference to her, but it mattered to him, so she'd be patient. Once the ball activated and absorbed the pokemon, she made it quick.

Though his use of a pokeball - or whatever kind of ball that strange pattern indicated - on the creature was certainly a bit more surprising to her. He didn't seem the sort to capture pokemon against their will. It kind of edged oddly in her mind, the idea of forcefully capturing anything and keeping it confined against its will, but it wasn't as though killing them was much better. Of course, her hunting was for survival. But it could be argued that building a strong team to fight alongside him - or in most humans cases, for them - was survival technique in itself. Either way, she busied herself with her tasks and didn't reveal her feelings to him.

When he offered to help her, to be her crutch, she froze. Just what was he getting at? It was kind enough, and it wasn't as though she thought he had some hidden agenda or something, but the idea of using him as a crutch was uncomfortable. Why though? She quickly realized, by picturing it, that it meant a level of contact that she never really had with other humans. The idea of such close contact was unsettling for some reason. She couldn't place why, though the heat in her cheeks should have been a dead giveaway. "I don-"

She cleared her throat and stopped the words from her initial reaction, playing it off as actually needing to clear her throat. It sure felt like there was a lump there, as she continued to keep her eyes on the bodies she was packing away into her bag. While she didn't really want to so much as use him as a crutch, not wanting to touch other as much as she could, it was the sensible option. Her leg was hurt, and continuing on it unsupported could create further injury. She didn't need help, but that didn't mean she was so dumb as to believe it wouldn't be a good offer to accept.

Fortunately the awkward woman didn't have to give an answer just yet, as the ball burst open while she was trying to take care of her own things, releasing the geodude. Victor deftly got out of the way, his reflexes clearly sharp. Now that was a good trait for someone to have. She grumbled under her breath, freeing a hand and punching it out towards the rock type. As she did so, she made eye contact with the electric-type, who'd previously just been licking at her wounds. She nodded, grinning a bit before shooting off.

The others had the chance to attack first, the Jolteon not wanting to get caught up in the freezing attack. But as soon as it was done, assuming the pokemon was still standing, she'd attempt to dash and crash her body into the pokemon before trying to jump back and get a safe distance away - she definitely didn't feel like getting struck by those strong rock fists. Though given the sudden and strong onslaught of attacks, she had a feeling that the creature wouldn't be able to strike back. If it somehow survived, hopefully it would just run away. They'd already been roughed up enough.

@Kaien @Shasyu

After missing his attack and seeing the Pokemon around him bracing in preparation to attack or move, the rock creature set his fists on the uneven tunnel floor and dug his knuckles into the ground, rock grinding against rock as he stood against all three attacks. The tackle from the Jolteon managed to budge him a bit, but he recovered fast enough.

The three attacks left him feeling significantly drained, but he wasn't out for the count yet. Still, he felt his sudden flash of rage begin to melt. He wasn't a violent creature, not really. He was just... overwhelmed. The heaviness of his limbs after surviving the sudden onslaught certainly didn't add to his energy, either. His spike of indignant temper was quickly fading into anguish, now.

So all that was left now was to escape. He wasn't sure if he would meet resistance in his flight, but he decided not to wait and find out. Pushing from his fists off of the ground, he tumbled himself into a roll towards the entrance of the tunnel, heading out towards the light of the outdoors. He'd use force against anyone that got in his way, but if no one did, he'd be long gone in a matter of seconds.

Now, truly, they were alone and left to recover before moving on.

(Sorry for the short reply! Deliberate amongst yourselves to decide which Pokemon should get full EXP and who should get half EXP against each wild Pokemon, and I'll put the encounter results in my next post!)

Victor Emerson

@Kaien

(Full exp of zubat and drilbur goes to jolteon. Full exp of diglett goes to spirit. if any from geodude, give it to Wisp <_<.)

Seeing that the geodude was retreating, Victor saw no reason to pursuit it. He and his team needed to recover as well as Leona’s. He already made an attempt to capture it and that ended with the trainer almost busting his kneecap. It was foolish of him but he figured he was helping the geodude. The truth was he was just looking to take advantage of its abilities.

Perhaps now it was best to just recover now. Victor looked over to Leona and her jolteon. He wanted to make sure they knew he appreciated their help for what could have been a painful blow. The trainer nodded his head at the girl. “What do you want to do now?” he asked. Despite feeling like they should rest, he still thought it best to get her opinion first. She may have wanted to keep moving and he didn’t want to discount her say.

If she agreed they should press on then he’d still be up for assisting her walk. If not then he’d just continue next to the trainer. Victor hoped they’d find a vein soon. They could mine and be on their way out of this dangerous tunnel. Their team had taken enough of a beating and honestly he just wanted to feel the warmth of a campfire.

With all the pokemon closing in at once for a myriad of attacks, it seemed that they'd put on a sufficient display to cause the geodude to turn and run. Good. She may be a hunter, but that didn't mean that she enjoyed fighting or that she sought it out. Hunting was a necessity for food, not a casual hobby for fun. And besides, not only were they not here to hunt (this certainly wouldn't be her first choice of hunting ground) but it was a rock. Not much you can do with that body.

But it was gone and, having been the only one left, meant that they were free to continue on their way. Hopefully they'd find the ore soon, as she wasn't confident just how much more fighting either of their teams could handle after that rough encounter. Victor did have a larger team however even he and his pokemon seemed to have put their all into that battle. And with his one pokemon literally losing a leg, she wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to leave at this point - but she wasn't planning on leaving before they met their goal. Not when they'd gone through so much trouble to try and get it. She'd only give in if it was required to survive.

He nodded to her, asking for her opinion on what she wanted to do next. Leona appreciated the level of respect that was subtly hinted at from the question. While he could have just elected to push on without a word, the fact that he chose to stop and pose the question to her, especially when she'd been injured, was admittedly kind. That on top of his offer to help her walk was proving to make him out to be a pretty good guy, she supposed. Better than some she'd met. He didn't repeat himself, but the offer was likely still sitting out there, unanswered from the interruption.

Admittedly less flustered than before, she didn't take long to reply to his new question. "I think we should probably just push on. The quicker we get the task completed, the sooner we can get back to camp and rest. Trying to rest here would be a danger in itself, and leaving now would put all our pokemon's hard work just now to waste." Though perhaps his pokemon were already done. She could understand that. "If we find another situation we don't think we can handle, then we can make a break for it. After all, our path back seems clear now."

Leo felt like she wanted to smile, or laugh, or do something to make the situation a little brighter. Ugh. She wasn't very good at this whole being around other people thing. Given the situation, and her lack of finding a way to lighten the mood right off the bat, she did neither. There was the question of his help still hanging, but she didn't want to push it. Until she understood why she felt flustered by the idea, she figured it was better to just suck it up. So, unless he countered and wanting to stop for a bit, or leave completely, she'd simply put on a strong face and do her best to ignore the pain - or at the very least, not put on that she's in pain and minimize the limping to an almost normal walk, if a bit slower of a pace.

She was quietly thankful for the offer, and his assistance on this little task.

@Kaien @Shasyu

As the group pressed on, moving slowly but steadily deeper into the tunnel, nothing would catch their gaze or call their attention. No glint of metal reflected the little light that managed to find its way into the deeper parts of the cave, and no scurrying or screeching of wild Pokemon could be heard, either. It was almost eerie in its silence- but perhaps the sounds of the intense battle that they had just won had sent most of the inhabitants deeper into the tunnel.

Eventually, after five or ten minutes of walking, they would finally catch a glimpse of what it was that they had come here for: metal. A dull silvery sheen of metal gleamed up at them from the right side of the tunnel, where the cavern floor began to rise to meet the wall.

As they moved toward or commented on their discovery, however, they would be able to hear the sounds of a distant skirmish- and it was quite intense, judging by the shouts and crashes. Though these sounds would perhaps put them on edge, nothing came out to challenge Victor or Leona; apparently whoever or whatever was just out of sight had their hands full with one another and had no time for the humans. In fact, after a few more minutes dragged by, the sounds of whatever confrontation had occurred faded into silence. It might pique their curiosity- but would they take more time to risk delving further into the tunnel to satisfy any curiosity they might have to see what remained of the conflict they had heard, or would they play it safe and leave, now that they had been able to obtain what they had come for?

Metal found!

encounter results
OKAY since this thread was started practically a decade ago, and before the retroactive leveling, I had to do a lot of guesswork to try and calculate the EXP. Here's the breakdown of the EXP gain- please let me know if anything looks incorrect. Or if you don't care, you can skip to the last bit of this where I'll list the total EXP gained. xD

EXP gained vs Drilbur: 8+2 to Jolteon, 4 to Ghost, 4 to Spirit, 6 to wisp. EXP gained vs Geodude: 4 to Jolteon, 4 to Ghost, 2 to Spirit, 12 to wisp. (I thought about docking EXP for everyone since Geodude was very much in the background, but then decided that the Geodude was still affecting the fight enough that the main battle plus the final push against the Geodude warranted full EXP gain for everyone who was present. Since Spirit was recalled by the end of the fight vs Geodude, Spirit's EXP was halved. Also, no one got winning EXP since the Geodude fled while still having a significant portion of health. If this is more EXP than you want for wisp, though, Shas, I can deduct here and halve his gain. For now I'll assume full gain.) EXP gained vs Zubat: 6+2 to Jolteon, 3 to Ghost, 3 to Spirit, 5 to wisp. EXP gained vs Diglett: 4 to Jolteon, 4 to Ghost, 8 + 2 to Spirit, 6 to wisp.

Totals: Jolteon gains 26 EXP. Ghost gains 15 EXP. Spirit gains 19 EXP. wisp gains 29 EXP. Nice. :D Hope that makes up for the fact that it took me basically an entire dang month to reply to this thread again.

EDIT: oh, and, I'll give +1% loyalty to each Pokemon, as well.

Victor Emerson

@Kaien

(Kaien, put in a mod req to close if you want to end it here. I'm all done xD)

Even with the leg injury, Leona didn’t seem to want Victor’s assistance. As long as she could press through it wouldn’t really bother him. He understood the need to keep from feeling like a burden to others. She was strong and wanted to keeping going, despite the damage they’d all received. Victor nodded his head in agreement with the woman. He kept a steady pace with her, however, in case she had trouble walking. He didn’t want walk on ahead or let her lead with her injury.

As they continued down the tunnel, Victor couldn’t help but let out a loud sigh of relief as he caught a glimpse of the metal they were looking for. It shined on the cave walls. The trainer wasn’t exactly sure if it was a good idea to pick at the minerals with her leg hurt. He wouldn’t mind picking at the metal on his own. They could carry it back together with the help of their pokemon once they had collected enough.

Ghost wasn’t sure why her trainer was whacking the cavern walls with a strange object. The fox wondered if it made sense for her to attack it as well but he didn’t seem to be in any danger. She really just wanted to leave this cave and get some rest. Whatever it was they were doing didn’t seem to be over so she’d have to wait.

The budew that was resting on Victor’s shoulder was now on the cavern floor, next to the Ghost. He was also curious as to what it was the human was trying to accomplish but it didn’t seem like anything was coming to attack them, so stopping for a bit was okay as long as they got some rest. The seedling worried that more pokemon would show up any moment. He kept his eye out for anything that could end up sneaking up on them and prepared for a grass whistle if it were the case.

“I can take care of this from here. Once we’re all done collecting this, let’s head back immediately. I feel no other reason to explore further,” Victor spoke to Leona. He hoped she felt the same way because his pokemon were too weak to search for any other treasures.

Leona shoved down any feelings on the pain in her leg, focusing solely on walking somewhat normal. She was mostly successful. Sure, it was pretty easy to tell by looking that she was favoring one leg, but her expression and movements didn't hint to the pain in her leg. In all honestly, it wasn't too terrible walking anyway. Since it was mostly a surface wound, putting pressure on her leg didn't exascerbate the injury much. A little, yes, but nothing she couldn't manage on her own. Still, she was ready to get back to camp and get off this leg.

Victor kept pace with her, and she was notably a bit slower than before. She did try to push herself a bit, not wanting to remain in this cave any longer. The company wasn't bad, admittedly, given that Victor actually seemed like a decent dude. But the potential dangers and the slashed leg were way less inviting. She didn't really have an interest in seeing what other creatures lived in these caverns. Luckily, it turned out she wouldn't have to. Victor sighed deeply as her eyes flicked to the etchings in the wall that signalled the metal vein they were looking for.

The man immediately set to working on the vein, and she followed suit. She leaned her weight on her good leg, giving her a steady base to swing the pickaxe. After all, her upper body was still fine. Still, her swings weren't as strong as her partner's. She still persisted, the cracks and crumbling pieces of rock shattering beneath her blows aiding in harvesting the metal. She paused very soon after starting to listen to the sounds, which tapered out soon enough. There could be something worth investigating down that way, but who knew what creatures were dwelling. It sounded like a fight after all, and she really didn't want to get into a fight again right now. She spared a glance at Jolteon, who was laying on the floor patiently while they worked on the wall.

That motion was all she needed to know that the electric-type also wasn't looking to continue this adventure right now. Soon enough Victor commented, and the ache in her leg caused her to not fight back against his suggestion that he could take care of the rest. They'd really made most of the impact in the vein, the crumbling bits surrounding the metal scattering across the floor. He confirmed that he wanted to leave, which wasn't surprising. His team had taken quite their share of blows, and she could understand his desire to get out of this place. She lowered the pick axe and took a couple steps backward to get out of the way, wobbling a bit when she stepped on her injured leg again.

Eventually, the metal was harvested in full and she moved in to take her share of it to carry back. It was more heavy than she'd imagined, but it was no problem for her. She could deal with the endurance training. Though her legs ached quite a bit, her arms didn't seem to mind too much. Once they determined they'd gotten all the metal they could collect for now, she'd nod and start heading back towards the entrance alongside him. "I'll be glad to be out of this place. Not that working with you was, uh, bad or anything. Maybe we'll get a chance to partner up again sometime." Despite her attempt at friendly words, her face stayed straight forward, the woman internally questioning herself for being so awkward. The corners of her lips twitched, as if to smile, but seemed to falter before actually pulling up for any reasonable amount of time.

Well, talking to people was overrated anyway.
