Welcome

Our old universe has fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new universe, this new world, and give it purpose. (Our site is best viewed in Firefox or Chrome.)

Events

The biggest event of the season- of the year, even- is the Anniversary Fair, and it is here again! We have a scary story contest. Our plot events are still going strong.

Season

Autumn will be here until December. All of Terrene is cooling by degrees; those in Ashfield scarcely notice because it never truly gets cold there, though they will notice the decreased rains and humidity. Winds pick up, particularly in the southern areas. Ghost types are more common this season.

Naka and crew (sans Shroomish, who couldn't climb and was willing to act as a guard for Naka's stuff, the egg in particular) were out searching for food to supplement the supply they got at Omega's base. Scyther, whose injury had healed over so it was nothing more than a harmless light stripe over her chest, was having the time of her life slashing at anything soft enough to scratch. Every wicked scrape she left behind was a point of pride. Hah! Nothing could hold her back now! ...Except that persistent feeling from her stomach that it needed food. She dropped to the ground to avoid alerting prey with the buzzing of her wings, and walking was almost a new experience in itself. Soon enough, she heard the faintest squeak off in the distance. She smiled and zipped off to catch her meal.

Stunky had just taken something of a fall, bouncing and squeaking in protest a few times before landing flat on her back. This whole "rocky terrain" thing did not sit well with her. She groaned as she got back on her paws to plod along further. Her unpleasant odor was coming in handy in a brand new way- she'd be able to follow her own scent trail back to the base, or, rather, to an alcove near the base Naka had chosen after being hit on by one too many unsavory person. Stunky couldn't blame her, and probably would have done exactly the same thing. She sniffed the air, smelling something crisp and cool, almost minty. She headed in that direction, unaware of the predator lurking nearby.

Naka herself had just reached the tip of a rocky spire, a good vantage point for creatures reliant on their eyesight. Unfortunately, a lichen could easily be mistaken for a leaf, and the few shallow patches of soil she saw were annoyingly barren. She supposed she could eat more of the slop Omega was calling provisions, but that would mean she would have to fight off more ruffians apparently trying to be nice to her. Hmph. There were two pokemon walking together, one a pale blue thing looking pathetically weak, the other a hulking mass of white who would probably not appreciate their companion being used as food. Naka doubted she could take that one on.

Shroomish, dutiful as ever, stood stiffly in front of Naka's alcove, vigilant for anyone, human or pokemon, coming by who might want a backpack. He'd occasionally glance over at the spire Naka was climbing, tracking her progress. He wished he could climb- it would open up so many opportunities. Well, he'd just have to train hard and evolve, and then he'd have arms to climb with. Admittedly, he was kind of bored. Nothing had happened yet, and while that was a good thing, it didn't leave him with much to do.

Wait a minute. If he squinted, he could make out a large form in the distance, camouflaged white against a cloud. What was that? He'd fight it if it came too close! He retreated a short distance into the alcove so he drew less attention to himself.

Soon, the pokemon came into better view, along with what was presumably her cub. The larger was a massive white bear with icicles appearing to drip down her face, reaching down to about the middle of her chest. The smaller was a far less intimidating bear, with a light blue head and a runny nose. Shroomish hoped they would turn some other direction. They looked like ice-types.

Unfortunately, the Beartic had a great sense of smell, and she was after the few bits of food in Naka's backpack. "//Come along, Alister,//" she said, gently pushing him forward with one massive paw, "//There's food to be had. Human food.//"

Alister nodded, sniffling because of his perpetual cold. "//Human food? Yum...//" he replied in a dreary sigh.

Shroomish realized he'd been spotted as soon as the little bear pointed towards him. He assumed a stance from which he could easily jump, hopefully to uppercut the icicle bear if he could reach. When the bears reached him, he frowned up at them. "//What do you want?//" he growled. The little bear hid behind the big bear's leg.

"//There's human food behind you. Please give it to us.//"

"//No! I'm not giving up the egg or anything left in that backpack!//" Shroomish's sides began to glow as he readied a drain punch.

Alister whimpered. "//Mama, is he going to hurt us? I don't want to get hurt.//"

The mother Beartic easily lifted Shroomish, who squawked, then screeched at the sudden cold he felt as she pulled him towards her. That- that hurt! He tried to do something, anything, but he was shivering so much he couldn't even use stun spore properly- the powder came out in tiny little puffs doing nothing more than numbing Beartic's hands. He screamed again, hoping to alert somebody to come rescue him, as well as the items Alister was now carrying.

Scyther probably would have decapitated Stunky before she knew it was her if it weren't for her smell. She stopped abruptly just as she was about to bring a scythe down on the unsuspecting mammal, who was no longer so unsuspecting now that she was leering at Scyther. "//Wow. Were you going to murder me? Because I'm really not okay with that.//" She turned back to the rindo bush she'd been eating from. She didn't particularly enjoy the taste, but they had an interesting texture, and more importantly, they were good enough sustenance for the time being.

Scyther fluttered back a little. "//Um. I heard a squeak,//" she replied lamely. "//Small rodents squeak. I eat small rodents.//" She was a little amazed at how quickly Stunky had gotten over being mistaken for prey. Perhaps she was just having some sort of delayed reaction.

"//Gross,//" Stunky said.

After a little bit of awkward silence, both pokemon heard a screech of terror. "//You heard that?//" Stunky was already on her paws, eyes wide, fur bristling. The anxiety of being around someone who had nearly just killed her was catching up, and she did give Scyther the occasional wary glance. Scyther could almost bring herself to feel bad.

The scream came again, louder this time. Scyther, having the more sensitive ears of the two, recognized the voice, gasping a little. "//Th-that's Shroomish!//" What could have happened to him? She zipped into the air, making a break for the direction Shroomish's cry had come from.

"//Wait for me!//" Stunky yelled, arguments forgotten. Scyther stopped for a moment, and Stunky climbed onto her back. Not quite the move she expected, but Stunky was light enough to carry. "//Let's go save my buddy.//" Scyther, beating her wings as fast as she could, continued on the most direct route to Shroomish.

Naka was already scrambling down her vantage point faster than she could really hope to go if she didn't want to get hurt. She took a few bruises here and there, but nothing too serious- sprinting felt awkward with her ankle flaring up every other step, but she was going to save Shroomish from the big white pokemon no matter what. Oh, and her stuff. That was important too.

She shoved her way through Omega's base, which was on the most direct route to the alcove she'd been camping in, then ran across an open rock field, heart pounding in her ears. "Shroomish!" she called. She wasn't sure why she did- it was a waste of breath, breath she needed to keep up her pace.

She could see him shivering now, and a surge of jealousy drove her legs faster. She was the only one allowed to hold Shroomish like that, and the poor mushroom was obviously in pain as well. The little bear was dragging her backpack behind him. She wanted to yell at him for his uncaring attitude. Didn't he know that there was a fragile egg in there?

She stopped when she realized the massive scale of the white bear. She'd be able to swat her away without a second thought if she tried to jump for Shroomish. "Hey! Hey! Put him down!" she yelled, hoping to accomplish something. The larger bear growled at her, ushering the smaller bear along. At least the little one was bothered.

After some time spent following the bears, listening to Shroomish wailing, she was crying tears of frustration herself. She was completely powerless against this thing. Her arms were too long, her claws too sharp to risk approaching her. "Shroomish...!" Naka called one more time, a tremor in her voice.

It was just then that Stunky's whine of a war cry pierced the air as she and Scyther swooped in. She jumped off her insectoid acquaintance (she wouldn't call them friends, not with Scyther's constant brushing her off) and hissed her best hiss up at the Beartic carrying Shroomish. "//Unhand the mushroom and I might let you off without skunk juice in your eyes!//"

Any further threats were interrupted when Naka scooped her up, nuzzling her and making relieved noises before talking faster than Stunky thought possible. "BoyI'veneverbeensogladtoseeyouinmylifeSCREECH!" Stunky blinked as Naka put her back on the ground. She had already processed the "Screech" part. The rest would take a couple more seconds. Stunky took a deep breath and screamed a horrible sound at Beartic, who instinctively went to cover at least one ear. However, thanks to the little bit of stun spore affecting her hands, Shroomish was able to wiggle away from her one-pawed grip.

"//H-haa... Thank you, Stunky.//" Shroomish was still largely immobile from the cold. Naka would have to carry him. But first, there was an annoyed Beartic to deal with and a Cubchoo holding the bag hostage.

"Scyther, vacuum wave!" Naka pointed to Beartic's left knee while she rushed towards the right. Scyther whipped up a concentrated whirlwind while Naka gave Beartic's other knee a good, old-fashioned kick. The large bear swung at Naka, who was able to retreat fast enough to avoid it thanks to Beartic's balance being thrown off. "Scyther, grab the stuff, then we run!" Naka scooped up Shroomish, Stunky hot on her heels as she fled right past the pair of bears. Scyther did similar, just making sure to swipe Naka's backpack out of Alister's little paws.

Luckily, the bears did not give chase as Naka and crew fled back to their camp.

The whole party could agree that they deserved a rest. Naka slipped into Omega's base to procure a bit of firewood, lighting it to help Shroomish warm up. Everyone wanted a bit of warmth, so they all huddled around the fire, Shroomish sitting in Naka's lap, sneezing every so often. Even the egg had been taken out of the backpack and was currently being held by Scyther, who looked content enough to doze off.

Stunky yawned. "//Man, that was some screech. My throat's shot.//" She was a little annoyed that she didn't get to go through with her original threat, but it was pretty funny to see Naka kick a giant bear in the kneecap as well as gush over her the way she did. Now that she thought about it, she had no idea what exactly either of those bears were. They were clearly ice-types, but that was all she knew, and she could safely assume nobody else did, because Stunky's pool of knowledge extended past the Lion's Plains, while the others had only ever lived there, or in Naka's case, didn't remember anything else.

"//You're talking,//" Shroomish pointed out.

"//Shut up,//" Stunky replied. Scyther laughed, earning herself a glare from Stunky. She just laughed again.

Scary ice bears. :u This was a fun read, even if it felt a bit brief. I loved reading about everyone, particularly Scyther and Stunky, interacting with each other with their various personalities.
