Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new universe, this new world, and give it purpose. (Our site is best viewed in Firefox or Chrome.)

Events

The biggest event of the
season- of the year, even- is the Anniversary Fair! We also have a lore contest for the month of November, and our plot events are still going strong.

Season

Autumn will be here until
December. All of Terrene is cooling by degrees; those in Ashfield scarcely notice because it never truly gets cold there, though they will notice the decreased rains and humidity. Winds pick up, particularly in the southern areas. Ghost types are more common this season.

If the Lion's Plains had been hot, the open spots of the mountainous areas were unbearable. The stone underfoot was scorching, and Naka really wished she had shoes, or for Scyther to be able to carry her- the bug's wings seemed to be in working order, so she didn't have to touch the ground. Shroomish had the worst of it, though- his natural weakness to heat had him hopping uncomfortably across the sunny areas, whimpering a little with each step. At one point, he'd looked imploringly up at Naka, wanting to be carried, and after a bit of whining, she gave in and picked him up. Stunky had scoffed and continued on her not-so-merry way. She'd been brooding since the night before, when she'd been thinking about her skunk friends who she'd probably never see again.

Naka, now that Scyther was on her team, had even more motivation to go excavate for Omega- if she remembered correctly, Scyther needed a metal coat to evolve. What exactly she would evolve into was a mystery, but Naka had high hopes.

Stunky walked in Scyther's shadow whenever possible, her instinctive aversion to strong sunlight kicking in. "//You make a pretty good sun umbrella,//" she commented.

Scyther fluttered to the side, leaving Stunky without her precious sun umbrella for a moment. Stunky squawked indignantly, and Scyther resumed her original position with a chuckle. "//Happy to be of service, boss.//"

@Desk Lamp

Proper preparation was always the key to any successful venture out into the wild lands, 'specially when one decided to try their luck out in the rough hills amidst the gravel and tough scrubby plants. Yet the land was teeming and rich in potential if nothing else, it was not much to look at and rather unpleasant at first glance, but it had its charms, its rolling features a home to many a sturdy critter, and it's rocky nature hiding plenty o' secrets for the intrepid adventurer, from black solemn peak to cold hollow cliffs, there was a life to be had out here. Some had realized this only of late, an encampment up north, temporary dwellings freshly built and a flux of people newly come all proof of that, but some had long known this rocket hills as home and known of its treasures beneath the soil and the wealth there was to live off of in this land much longer.

'Course, even with those new young bodies moving in to dig out stuff and excavate, it was still a rare sight to run into someone further out in the hill land. Generally speaking it was a lonely place with only the wild pokemon to keep one complany, a fact Naka might have come to learn herself as several hours would pass without more then the scuttling by of bug pokemon and the swooping of avians overhead to break the passage of her own little party, but eventually under the harsh rays of the sun beating down overhead, she would run into another.

High on the peak of a neighboring hill, he rested a moment, a rough hat pulled low to shadow features, a figure not to far distant but facing another direction, dark clothed back against a stone and visage facing out across the hills ahead, features hard to determine from length between them yet. Still, he seemed perhaps a sizable man, maybe a little short but well built, his clothing dark and rough cut, his hat wide brimmed, a pack bulky beside him, and around him several pokemon, two green sure footed pokemon prancing about each other, scampering lithely over rocks without care as they nipped and danced around each other, another more calmly nibbling at a rough patch of tough green. By the man's rock another pokemon rested as well, a stout grey thing with many legs and a segmented body, antennae upon its head twitching as it turned to look out in the distance... towards Naka and her crew. Still the man and his companions seemed passive if oblivious still to the girl who traversed the mountains... Perhaps some human company would not be bad, or at the very least he might be of assistance to an ill prepared traveler in need of assistance.

There was a Durant staring at him, Shroomish noticed. He stared right back, trying not to blink first. Did Durant even have eyelids? He squinted to try and make out a pair, and Durant did indeed have eyelids. However, squinting led to blinking, and Shroomish lost the staring contest. He nestled himself further into Naka's arms with a dismayed coo.

"What was that about?" Naka asked, even as she looked up at whatever it was Shroomish had been so intent on. If he didn't like the looks of it, she should probably be cautious. Hm. A metallic bug, three Skiddo, and a rugged human watching over them. Well, none of that was any of her business, and she didn't care to get involved. Moving into the hill's shadow, she continued to walk, a hope in the back of her mind that the pat-pat of her feet didn't alert the man, not that she didn't think she could deal with him if she had to.

Stunky was more than glad to find some real shade. She broke out into a full sprint, and when she reached the bottom of the hill, she plopped on her side to rest. This would probably be the best place to do so for some ways, she figured, and she was going to take advantage of it until the ache faded from her legs and her paws didn't feel raw anymore. She didn't move even as the rest of the group progressed far past her. Was the human dumb enough to forget about her?! She wouldn't put it past her, if she was perfectly honest. Now, she would be okay with this if she was closer to home, but she didn't want to be stranded in the middle of rocky nowhere without any kind of support.

The sound of a yawn, or maybe a complaint, got Naka's attention. Stunky was being her usual independent self, she realized with an annoyed crinkle of the nose. She couldn't just leave her there, but she did want to be out of here sooner rather than later. She held up Stunky's pokeball as a threat, but Stunky just turned up her nose. Fine, if that was how she was going to play it, then this would be a rest stop for now. Naka turned around and made her way to a spot next to Stunky, leaning against the side of the hill and sliding down to sit. She had to admit, this was kind of comfortable, and her feet really did need the respite.

Scyther hadn't been actively wanting a break, but she found herself glad to have one. She needed to stretch her arms and legs instead of letting her wings do all the work. As she started to try touching the ends of her scythes to the tips of her feet, she heard Shroomish pipe up, warning her to be careful. Oh yeah. She didn't want to reopen that cut. She nodded to Shroomish, then resumed her stretching, a little slower.

The skiddo continued their idle activities as the man sighed in relaxation, simply enjoying the rest in the sunlight as they played. Though his herd was small at the moment, he treasured each one of them. Besides, building a herd took time, and he was happy to enjoy each moment with them. His trusty durant at his side to help him with his dreams as well. The steel bug might seem like the wrong companion for a herder, but he wouldn't have it any other way.

However it seemed his prancing pokemon weren't quite as sure-footed as they were thought to be. All it took was one misstep too close to the edge of the hill as the two of them were playing, and the expression on the female's face switched to surprise, as she'd never fallen before. She called out before slipping, half sliding and half rolling down the hill. She flailed, trying to catch herself and managed to eventually. However, the creature stood only inches away from the woman, staring blankly ahead as she attempted to process what had just happened.

The young man had certainly heard the noise his skiddo had made before she started tumbling down the hill. He scurried off of the rock and starting running around the hill, the durant a few steps ahead of him. They made their way down to the now standing goat, just next to the young woman. His cheeks flushed ever so slightly as he stammered his greeting. "Oh, u-uh h-hi. Sorry about the uh, the goat. I promise she don't mean no harm." He collected himself, running a hand under his hand and whistling to the skiddo, who snapped back to earth and carefully stepped over to her shepherd. "My deepest apologies. She's usually careful not to stumble down off the hill and into pretty women." Though he internally berated himself for being forward, the man wasn't even quite sure what he was saying. His thoughts were a little jumbled as he looked upon her dark skin and beautiful eyes.

When the Skiddo started to slide down the slope, the first thing Naka noticed, even before any loose dirt hit her head, was Stunky screeching in terror. Then she realized something was about to fall on her, and she was too shocked in the moment to do anything about it. Now there was a mildly traumatized goat standing next to her and a guy with an ant calling her pretty. This was a lot to process, so of course, Naka blurted the first thing that came to her had instead of actually sorting through it. "Your goat almost killed me!" Her voice was shrill with indignance, though her eyes were still on the Skiddo.

Shroomish wriggled out of Naka's arms, an easy task due to his trainer's distraction, and whispered to Stunky. "//Why's that guy's face red?//" He'd never seen a pokemon blush before- most mammals had fur covering their cheeks, and other pokemon, particularly his fungal family, simply didn't have that response to strong emotion. Usually, a Shroomish or Breloom would produce small, harmless puffs of spores instead.

Stunky's voice couldn't possibly carry more disdain when she answered. "//He's got the hots for her.//" Who in their right mind would like this bratty shortstack? Skiddo Man needed to get his head back on his shoulders. She glanced at the Skiddo who had come so close to falling on Naka. Poor thing was still just as bamboozled as her human. Well, that wasn't Stunky's problem. She huffed.

Naka shook herself out of her panicked daze and glowered at the man. "U-uh, h-hi to you too," she said, mocking his earlier stutter. Though she was happy deep down to have her ego stroked, she was more focused on how careless this rube had to be to let his Skiddo tumble down a hill. "Make sure she doesn't do it again."

The man was a bit off-put by her mocking to his nervous stutter, which somewhat dampered the glamour of the woman. Her follow-up comment dampened his mood slightly, which broke him out of his slight daze. Well, it wasn't as if he'd actually thought something would come out of the compliment after all. He supposed he should just leave the traveler alone. He rubbed at the back of his neck as she spoke, his eyes turning to the skiddo that moved to get behind him and back up to the others.

"Right. Of course. Won't happen again." He managed to stumble out the words to reply, still a little struck with attraction. But not thinking she was very well interested in a conversation, he turned on his heel and started to walk away, to give her and her pokemon space. "We should be on our way anyway. Our break has lasted long enough, I think." He addressed his durant, who was sparing looks back at the woman and her group to make sure they didn't try anything. They moved up the hill, the man whistling and waving his skiddo over, making sure they were following before starting off down the path, unless given a reason not to continue quite yet.

Naka was happy to watch the man go. The only one who wasn't actively glad for it was Scyther, and she didn't really care either way. Probably best to go with the team, even if she had sort of wanted to comfort the Skiddo. She didn't need it anymore, anyway. Shroomish, sitting in Naka's lap, yawned, and Stunky, laying a good distance away, simply watched, still miffed about the Skiddo's near miss of her face.

Once the herder had disappeared from view, Naka decided that break time was over. She stood up and continued on her way, ignoring Stunky's protests by recalling her to her pokeball. The ground was a little hotter than she remembered, and she hissed in pain on her first step out of the shade. She wished she could sit in a pokeball and have someone else carry her. Stunky didn't know how lucky she was. Naka continued on her way, hoping she didn't outpace the herder and run into him again.

Her wait served its full purpose. Her pace, while good enough to make progress on her journey, wasn't enough to put the herder back in her view. The hard ground an surroundings continued as she moved through the mountains, looking for the encampment that was still a bit further in. A couple small caves and longer tunnels appeared here and there along the wall of the mountain, the darkness foreboding but no real danger appearing to her or her team. They'd have a relatively peaceful walk.

As Naka continued on the path, the air a little more light than she would be used to due to the elevation, she'd likely notice the sky as she walked. The clouds were getting denser and denser over time, the fluffy white puffs turning grey, some time later blocking out the last ounces of the sun hanging above. She would get a bit more time in of progress before the weather would start to turn against her, the first few droplets brushing against her skin as a light gust of chill air blew around them.

It picked up rather quickly, turning into a heavy ran within a matter of minutes. The unsteady rock path was getting wet and slick quickly, and traveling on the uneven path would prove to have its own risks should she choose to continue on. Luckily, there were no rumblings or flashes in the distance to signal lightning, and the wind was only light, nothing to throw off her balance. There would be a cave ahead she could hide out in if she didn't want to continue on, or she could push forward through the rain.

Naka shielded her face from the rain with one arm, still holding Shroomish with the other. If things continued this way, things would get real slippery real fast, and this would be a bad place to take a tumble. It hadn't occurred to her that the relief from the heat that came with the clouds would also bring its own dangers. Best look for a cave to take shelter in- Stunky already looked like the business end of a mop, and not very happy about it. "Shroomish, you can walk now. I'm going to hold Stunky." Shroomish kicked a pebble when he was set down, then hopped into a shallow puddle just to see what would happen. It splashed him, so he shook himself off and returned to Naka's side.

Stunky was caught off-guard by the pair of hands that picked her up from in front. She hissed, not wanting to be picked up by her human, but she had to admit that walking was getting tiring and that she was a little warmer huddling with Naka. She hoped that the human had the sense to stay out of the rain once suitable shelter was found. She probably didn't, so Stunky raised her head to stay on the lookout for a cave or something.

Naka had a nagging feeling she was forgetting something. A huff from behind her reminded her what it was. Scyther! She seemed exhausted- with her currently weakened wings, flying even in a weaker wind would be a challenge. Naka couldn't exactly carry her, so she grabbed Scyther's pokeball and withdrew her. She'd see how Scyther handled pokeballs when she got out of it.

When Naka finally caught sight of the entrance to a small cavern, her face twisted upwards into a tight smile as she quickened her pace. Soon enough, the rain was nothing more than a screen outside a cozy little cave. She shivered. How was she supposed to keep warm? The thought of the unidentified tool looted from that bandit sprang to mind, and Naka assumed it had a function that would be useful right now. There was a slightly charred pile of wood set off to the side, she noticed. Wait a second. Fire! That thingamajig was for starting those, right? Setting Stunky down next to Shroomish, who was leaning against a wall, watching the rain, then dragged over a larger wood scrap.

Eventually, after numerous tries scraping it against various things, Naka finally figured out how to operate the fire starter, and an ember was aglow. It wasn't much, but maybe it would spread. For now, she warmed her hands near it, forgetting a few troubles.

@Desk Lamp

Taking the safe option would likely have lasting positive effects on Naka and her team for the rest of this journey through the mountains. The rain continued to hammer down hard on the rocky paths outside, but she and her pokemon would be able to dry off and relax a bit while it raged. Whatever happened to the skiddo herder during this storm, she would never know and likely didn't think much on.

After a couple hours, the rain would start to falter, the heavy drops lightening into a faint drizzle. For a bit longer, she'd have to wait for the collected water to make its way down the mountain, the path having been flooded with the consistent flow of a couple inches of water. The top drained down to the bottom, and she still wasn't too high up to avoid part of the wait. It continued to flow, both from the walls but primarily down the way of the path she'd been following.

But less than an hour later, even it would fade out, the water having made its course or been absorbed into the world around it. Though the path would be wet and therefore a little slick, the sprinkling of rain wouldn't hold her back from continuing on anymore. In just over an hour after this point, the rain would sputter out completely, though the clouds would keep the sun from showing itself for the rest of the day. She would find that the rest of her travels into the evening would be undisturbed, so she would be able to make camp peacefully. Or, choose to travel in the dark.

Naka had dozed off after a little while, and apparently her pokemon had done the same, as Shroomish and Stunky were snuggled up for warmth, breaths even, when she woke up at around sunset. The rain had let up, but it was starting to get late- probably not the best time to travel. But Naka felt she hadn't quite made enough distance to call it a day just yet, and she didn't want to run out of food on the way to Omega's base. Stunky should be able to see in the dark without too much trouble, so she'd be able to warn her if anything dangerous was approaching. Scyther was let out of her pokeball. She seemed a bit disoriented, but not angry.

She tapped Shroomish and Stunky on their respective heads to wake them up, and announced that they were leaving. This time, Scyther had no trouble flying, and the other two weren't feeling so grim. Stunky's head was held high, and while Shroomish's face was unreadable, he did have a slight spring in his step, going at a march instead of his earlier trudge.

Once the sun had gone all the way down, Naka began to regret her decision. She could hardly see, and didn't have any portable source of light. "Stunky, can you see? Squeak for yes." Stunky squeaked. "Tell me if there's a good camping spot." Stunky nodded, though Naka couldn't see it, and the four continued on for a little longer.

@Desk Lamp

[Go ahead and write to morning, and we'll continue into the next day of travel!]

The dark clouds looming overhead certainly didn't aid to her attempt at seeing enough to keep moving towards her destination. The moonlight would normally be quite the help in such an instance, giving a bit of illumination for her during these late hours, but was sufficiently snuffed out by the cover. So she and her pokemon were left to travel in the dark, unaware of the going ons of things around them.

Luckily for the group, it seemed as though where they dared to try traveling along the we earth, others were not so willing to take the risk. Or at the very least, weren't around close enough to be any bother to her. The path would likely be slippery, so in addition to the darkness her pace would likely be slowed a bit, lest she end up falling and hurting herself without and further interference of the world around them.

Not a peep was to be heard, no night time predators out to bother her. Though the path was wide enough that she didn't need to worry about tumbling off the mountain, most of the hike would be on a singular path. But after a while she'd reach a small plateau in the rock's natural make, allowing a little more space pushing out that could be used to set up camp. Though it was outside, no guaranteed the cover of a cave, there was certainly room for her and her pokemon to rest, should she choose to stop now.

As the path widened in front of her, Naka was already flagging and eager for rest. This was far enough for her, and she doubted there would be a better spot to set up camp for quite some distance. Carefully picking out what shapes she could in the darkness, she distributed food to her pokemon, eating some herself. She then lay down a safe distance away from the edge of the plateau, shifting over and over to try making herself comfortable long after her pokemon, even Scyther, had drifted off to sleep. She scowled, then had the brilliant idea of using Stunky as a pillow. She was significantly softer and less bumpy than stone.

Before Naka even realized she'd fallen asleep, Stunky's spray woke her up just before the sun rose, and she squawked, sitting bolt upright and allowing Stunky to escape her position as pillow.

What Stunky didn't anticipate was that the other two pokemon in the party would be angry at her as well. Scyther was doing her best to waft the scent away from her with her wings and arms, while Shroomish, a little more used to it, simply kicked Stunky in the side. "//What was that for? I was sleeping peacefully and you just had to open your butt.//"

Before Stunky could reply, Scyther was already looming over her, talking in between coughs. "//The sun isn't even up yet.//"

Naka was already walking away from the slightly petty dispute, so her pokemon shot each other glares, resolving to finish this later, before scampering or flying to stay close to her.

((to be continued))

@Desk Lamp

[Psst we'll keep in this thread until Naka arrives at Omega's camp :3. One travel thread for each area!]

The inklings of sunrise colors started to dash through the sky as they started off, only just barely having gotten sleep through the night. The morning air in the higher reaches of the mountains was brisk, getting colder as they ascended to find the camp. There was still quite a ways for them to go, especially with having been delayed by weather the day before, but it didn't seem like getting there would be too terribly difficult. The hard rock beneath her feet was cold from the night air, but as she continued the sun would continue to peak out over the horizon, the warmth of its rays slowly increasing.

Eventually a split in the path would come up, though it hardly provided any direction to where she was going. Without any signs or otherwise, she'd be forced to make a guess as to which way would bring her to Onix Peak and through that, Omega's camp. Neither path seemed to scream its correctness in any way, both rather similar and still taking her further up into the mountains. Through this, she wouldn't find any danger approaching, but the lack of direction was arguably worse than having something or someone popup whom they could request directions from.

On the path that she chose, she'd find after about an hour that it started to plateau and turn a little more. It curved away from the tall peaks in the distance, but this whole range was practically a maze in itself, the tunnels and up facing paths weaving in and around the individual mountains and connecting to others in unexpected ways. But the real sign that this wasn't quite right would come when the path started to descend once again, in the opposite direction of the peaks. It was a couple hours out from that fork in the road, and who knew if she could find her way back as easily. Going back down the mountainside surely wasn't going to take her to her destination.

((Okay! Also egg post 1))

Naka found the colors smeared across the sky to be a breathtaking sight without any obstructions in the way. She had to stop and admire it for a moment, and she would glance to the sky every so often until the sun was properly risen. She didn't realize she was smiling until the expression dropped off her face at the sight of the fork in the path. Good thing she had a compass. She reminded herself to be careful with her bag- there was an egg in there now- and grabbed the magnetic instrument. She faced the direction she'd seen Onix Peak from back in the plains, then turned a bit to account for her being farther East than before, taking the path she was more or less facing towards.

Scyther was the first to notice the incorrect change in altitude. "//We seem to be heading downwards,//" she thought out loud. Last she'd heard, the human's destination was in a high place, so she gave said human a skeptical look. That round thing she was holding seemed to be something of a distraction, so Scyther was happy when it was soon stashed in her pocket.

Stunky rolled her eyes. "//Not like we're able to tell the dork what she's doing.//" She continued to plod along until Naka stopped at something of a drop. "//Well, I guess she realizes now,//" she amended sourly when her human turned around.

The path she'd taken had suddenly become a somewhat steep ramp downwards. Naka had figured that the side paths were simply routes frequently used by pokemon- some were barely wide enough to walk through. She grimaced and grabbed her compass again, lining the needle up with the little N on the rim. Sure enough, she'd passed right by whatever excuse for a road led to Omega's camp.
