Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new universe, this new world, and give it purpose. (Our site is best viewed in Firefox or Chrome.)

Events

The biggest event of the
season- of the year, even- is the Anniversary Fair! We also have a lore contest for the month of November, and our plot events are still going strong.

Season

Autumn will be here until
December. All of Terrene is cooling by degrees; those in Ashfield scarcely notice because it never truly gets cold there, though they will notice the decreased rains and humidity. Winds pick up, particularly in the southern areas. Ghost types are more common this season.

"Is it just me, or is it darker in this tunnel?" Naka's lantern shed enough light to see a good distance, but the details of anything its light didn't reach were obscured by darkness. She hoped her pokemon were able to see better than she could. Stunky certainly could, but she wasn't sure about the others. On the plus side, there had been a smaller pickaxe for her to take this time, and she could carry it in one hand without too much difficulty. She didn't trust anyone but herself with the responsibility of watching her egg, so she'd brought her entire backpack with her.

"//What exactly are we doing in here?//" Scyther asked. There were a lot of rocks, but not much else to see. She assumed the presence of rocks meant the presence of rock-types, which was not optimal for her.

"//Looking for metal. Shiny stuff,//" Stunky answered. "//We also get to keep anything useful we happen to find, apparently.//" Exactly what the definition of "useful" was, she didn't know. She wasn't a human. Maybe Naka could trade a sparkly rock for something practical? Humans sure did like their sparkly things. She hadn't seen any particularly sparkly rocks yet, though.

Shroomish knew he was the first line of defense against the pokemon most often found in caves like this, so he patrolled the lantern-lit area, scouting around corners as best he could. Nobody antagonizing him yet. Nobody at all, actually. Well, he'd have an opportunity to prove he was strong soon, if this went anything like last time.

It was a long, dark journey deep into the tunnel before anything of note happened, or was heard, or was seen. Deep through the unevenly hewn tunnel Naka and her crew would need to travel, nearly half an hour through the silent and inky blackness, left alone to their own devices, undisturbed by any resident creatures. Perhaps the Pokemon of these areas had finally displaced themselves after too many repeated human invasions?

If that were the case, there was one left behind.

It slithered about in the darkness, its only noises the occasional scattering of a loose stone and a fairly constant, but soft and unobtrusive, buzzing sound. Inwardly, it- rather, he- was panicking. About what, was unclear. In fact, because it was so dark and because he was so quiet, all caught up in his own thoughts and worries, it was likely that those of Naka's party who lacked good nightvision might miss him- and in fact, he was so absorbed in his own mind that he nearly missed them.

At the last minute, he saw the group out of the corner of his eye, and his frantic pacing stopped- the cessation of movement accompanied by a choked and startled and muffled cry, and he instinctively curled up and sort of rolled to one side until he flopped against the wall of the tunnel.

And it just so happened that, underneath his teal and yellow body, the faintest glimmer of metal could be seen. It would take a bit of axing with the pickaxe to get to it, but it was there for the taking- assuming one of Naka's party could spot it and they could remove the panicked and balled Dunsparace from off of it.

Stunky saw the glint of metal behind Dunsparce before she saw the pokemon himself. "//Hey, if it isn't our old friend metal!//" she exclaimed, sarcasm dripping off her voice. "//And who's this big lump?//" She walked towards him with the intent to poke before Shroomish stood in her way.

"//He's having a panic attack or something,//" Scyther said, saving Shroomish the trouble of having to speak. He just nodded. "//It might not be best to approach directly.//"

Naka, who could not understand her pokemon's advice, had already set down her pick and backpack. This pokemon was looking pretty spherical and not very hostile. She could probably roll it out of the way if she put her back into it. She leaned her shoulder against Dunsparce and shoved as hard as she could.

Shroomish squawked when he heard Naka's grunt, running over to headbutt her out of the way. He repeatedly bumped into her shin, making sure he sounded urgent. Naka looked down at him, frowning. "What's gotten into you? All we have to do is roll this thing somewhere else. It'll probably leave on its own soon, anyway."

Stunky sighed before closing her eyes with a small shudder, using focus energy in advance jin case Dunsparce did attack. Her senses were amplified, alerting her to where Dunsparce's exterior would be most fragile.

Shroomish: 100% health, no status conditions. Trying to move Naka.
Stunky: 100% health, no status conditions, increased critical hit rate. Just being cautious.
Scyther: 100% health, no status conditions. Will fight if she must.

@Desk Lamp

It was unfortunate for Naka that the Scyther's words of wisdom were lost on her, foreign words falling on essentially deaf ears as the human did the exact thing that she should not have done.

The Dunsparce couldn't see what was going on, exactly, given that it was nearly pitch-black in the depths of the tunnel combined with the fact that he was curled up in on himself as much as he could physically manage.

But when he felt a foreign touch shoving with no tenderness or delicacy against his reptilian scales, he immediately assumed the worst. On instinct, he instantly uncoiled with as much force as he could muster, the top of his skull likely to collide against Naka's face unless her reflexes were particularly exceptional in that moment, the impact likely to cause a broken nose, though not much worse than that.

Despite Naka's potential injury, the Dunsparce's next actions were not to stand and put up a fight, but rather to flee away as best as he could, toward the entrance of the tunnel- but again, it was dark, and though he was fairly used to living and moving in the darkness of this tunnel, he reacted poorly under stress and was panicked and so the unfortunate snake ended up fleeing right into the wall of the tunnel just a ways behind Naka and her party, temporarily stunning himself.

Naka stumbled back with a yell, clutching her face. It felt like something had caved in, and the texture of blood was unpleasant against her fingers. The nerve of this- this- whatever it was called! "G-get it!" she hissed, even as she removed her right hand from her face and picked up her pick. She was not getting her anything else bashed in, thank you, and these things worked pretty well as weapons in a pinch.

As Shroomish started to close in with a drain punch, itching for a good fight, Stunky used screech to lower Dunsparce's defense before she charged in with her own scratch. She might as well chase this off- she knew Naka wouldn't be too happy if the pokemon escaped unharmed, and angry Naka was pretty annoying. As for Shroomish's gutsy urges, he just wanted to prove to himself that those bears were just a fluke. He was tough, really!

Scyther hesitated. She was pretty sure the four of them could scare off this weird snake without any real violence, but when she realized the human was snapping at her, she set her mouth in a determined line and readied a vacuum wave, slashing forward to send off the whirlwind.

Shroomish: 100% health, no status conditions. Using drain punch on Dunsparce, maybe a little too vigorously.
Stunky: 100% health, no status conditions. Increased critical hit rate. Immediately using screech, then scratch.
Scyther: 100% health, no status conditions. Reluctantly aiming a vacuum wave at Dunsparce.

The Dunsparce never stood a chance. There he was, stunned after his own panic and idiocy caused him to run into the cave wall. His tail had only just started twitching, his more intelligent instincts kicking in as his drill-tail began to try and literally dig him out of this messy situation, but he just couldn't recover fast enough.

It was the blast of moving air from the Scyther's blades that hit him first, given that the very nature of the move made it a fast-hitter. It flung him up and backward and the flat of his back smacked into the cave wall for a second time. As he fell back to the ground, the screech hit him (figuratively, of course) and made his ears ring and his head throb and even made his vision blur ever so slightly as the sound did its job well, rattling his mind and lowering his defenses as he lost some ability to think clearly.

The the drain punch hit, and hit hard. There weren't words to describe the pain caused as the shroom struck him; his entire body suddenly felt weak and every muscle in his body cramped in unison in shock. The raking claws of the skunk hit him only a second after, breaking skin that began to bleed even as he gave one final shudder, then ceased moving altogether.

A small bit of blood oozed slowly from the wound; it was the only movement that came from the Dunsparce. There was no breathing. No heartbeat. His body and mind had given in to the sudden and overwhelming pain and shock of being so unexpectedly and violently gang-beaten.

And so Naka had rid herself of the snake and was free to mine the precious metal that she had, once again, killed for.

(I swear I tried to make this thread less scarring than the last, but... @n@ 107% damage. Overkill, much? I can't award full battle EXP since all of them really only got one hit in, but I'll give half of what they would have otherwise received. Just choose one to receive the bulk of the EXP and I'll award it in my next post!)

((egg post 12))

Shroomish gave Dunsparce his very best "and stay down" glare for a few seconds before he was assured that that his adversary had been knocked out, at best for him. He noticed an unusual lack of movement, and realized that Dunsparce was, as he'd slightly feared, dead. He turned away from the corpse and sat down. Had he had hands, his face would be in them. He needed to stop being so overzealous- he knew he was tough already, and, now that he thought about it, his insecurity about it was stupid. He'd get stronger- that was the nature of pokemon, to get measurably tougher with experience. Oh well... He'd assess the threat better next time. He hauled himself to his feet and walked over to Naka, whose eyes were shifting around suspiciously.

She thought that that had been way too easy. There was going to be another pokemon around, and she'd have to fight that one, too. That was always how it went. She raised her pick over her shoulder, ready for a surprise attack from anywhere but behind. "Anyone else want some?" she said, quietly so as not to attract the attention of pokemon that did want some. Warily, she turned around, put her backpack back on her shoulders, and started hacking away at the rock around the metal.

Scyther was frozen. That pokemon was dead! And Stunky was just licking the blood off her claws like nothing happened! She looked to Shroomish, who had to be a little distraught over it, but, stone-faced as he tried to be, he really didn't look any more upset than usual if the slight drag of his feet went unnoticed, which it did. "//Guys! We just killed somebody!//" She fluttered around the cave, agitated and a little scared at this turn of events. Hunting for food was one thing, but this guy just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Stunky looked up from her cleaning. "//Yeah. It happens sometimes. Don't work yourself up over it.//" She positioned herself to watch any branching tunnels for pokemon activity, lying down. "//...We might as well eat him,//" she said, stretching her neck to sniff Dunsparce's bloody side. He didn't smell that good.

That seemed to placate Scyther, at least a little. She went to take a nibble, finding the taste satisfactory, if not as savory as a small mammal. She remembered something suddenly, and she made a silent vow- protect the egg and resulting hatchling from senseless violence. She probably wasn't quite mature enough to raise a baby pokemon by herself, but the rest of her companions, particularly Stunky, didn't seem like they'd be good influences.

[metal find counted]

All was silent in the tunnel after their thorough victory; if any other Pokemon were near, they did not make themselves known. Naka would be able to gather the metal in peace, and leave without any further interference from wild Pokemon, aggressive or otherwise.
