Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new universe, this new world, and give it purpose. (Our site is best viewed in Firefox or Chrome.)

Events

It's the most wonderful
time of the year- meaning, the time of Delibird gifts and of winter festivals! And as always, our plot events are still going strong.

Season

winter will be here until
March. Aside from the western Great Forest, which is too warm, and the Desert Strip, which is too dry, snow begins to fall across the region. The chill of the season has just about every area firmly in its grasp. Ice and Dark types become more common as the temperature drops and the daylight fades.

Ri really liked the free samples. Really, really liked it. Though, she stayed away from Mareep meat to avoid any awkward questions should Blue suddenly materialize at the most inopportune time. She'd rather not accelerate the death of their friendship since.... Uh.... Ri was pretty sure at some point Blue would either realize she didn't want to be..... Friends, or Ri would've scared her off or something. She wondered when she started slapping the label friends on the two of them. It was.... Weird. She hadn't expected this. She really.... Really... Hadn't expected this. She wasn't sure she wanted to admit it to anyone but herself.

She chewed on the toothpick of a skewer that used to have Tepig meat on it earlier, as she bent over in her seated position, staring down into the snow. Was this brooding? She wasn't sure, but she was pretty sure being stuck in deep, vaguely negative thoughts while staring into the snow counted as brooding. Wonderful. She sighed deeply, gently closing her eyes as she did so. She wished times like these counted as rest.... Maybe she wouldn't be so exhausted. Her nights were rarely restful, and as a result... She never really felt well-rested. Though... She didn't remember ever feeling well-rested. Maybe a ghost of a memory of a memory that wasn't even there. Funny how that worked.

Idle Conversation
Stepping through the snow, the woman was glad she'd been adequately equipped for such weather, the boots she'd appeared in the world with being designed for many harsh things. The moisture and chill of the outside couldn't creep through the touch fabric protecting her feet and half her leg, and even if it could, the woolen socks beneath were ideal for keeping warm. The biggest difference between this place and the desert she'd grown accustomed to was the moisture - you wouldn't see a single flake of this 'snow' in the desert, after all.

Of course, idle concerns such as that were trivial in the scheme of things and the present state. She'd hitched a ride up to this Crater City. Others came for the festivities, however she came for the networking, to scope the environment, and for better access to more trade goods. Being separated by hills and a desert, Oasis Village wasn't exactly a great place for her to learn more and gain new items to help her towards... whatever it was she would end up doing. The details were still in the works, the 'mock-up' phase, if you will.

The woman looked around as she walked down the orderly street, many stands and people around offering their wares and samples. Though possibly bordering on impractical due to the limited amount of food in this world, she could understand the though process behind the freebies. People in this place do not want for the mystery, for the unknown. They simply wish for that which they know, the safety of which they live. Exploration could be death, and spending funds on experimental things could mean becoming broke, followed by death via starvation.

But once they've had a taste, and know it's something worth pursuing, they'd be more likely to go out of their way to purchase in the future. In this newborn world, gaining a solid customer base was likely difficult unless you sold standard items. Even then, you have the competition of all others who've decided to take on the profession. It seemed silly to have so many traders selling the same thing. Inefficient, even. But this city was... better organized than that which she'd seen before.

It was nothing like the chaos they called 'Ashfield City'.

She peered around, studying the people as she so often found herself doing. Her soul was of a curious and studious nature, and she was always looking to add more knowledge to her shattered collection of memories. If she was being tested to rebuild herself from the ground up, then so be it. Nothing and noone would stop her from greatness, and she would build herself up to her maximum potential - which, she was finding, was much higher than many others. Especially in that idiotic village of immigrant haters.

The unfortunate part about this place was the discrimination against those same immigrants, though comparably less so. Where immigrants are simply leeches to be removed in Oasis, they are worker class grunts in Crater. It was a step up, for sure, but marking with a brand those who came through without proper analysis of their potential and incumbent skill was a waste. If she had appeared here and been marked, that would have been a grave error. But at least this Beta character had a semblance of order and structure.

Most people here were with groups or at least paired. Whether through friendship or something more, they preferred to come with those they knew. Which only further proved her point about these people simply settling for where they were comfortable, not wanting to push the bounds of where they lived. But a few people here and there, travelers likely, were scattered and alone. A couple before she'd made idle chatter with, networking and trying to scout allies versus enemies. She was trying, of course, to find others with common goals and ambitions to her own.

One such traveler she hadn't met yet crossed her eye, grabbing her attention. Brilliant red hair shined in the sunlight, the natural color reflecting the light. The woman who owned the hair appeared to be... brooding. She stared at the snow, though the woman figured she was not actually looking into the snow at all, rather she was in thought. Disturbing her track of thought didn't seem to be the best course of action, though she'd be lying if she said she wasn't curious about this lone woman. She couldn't see her forhead from this angle, but she imagined this one was an immigrant. Whether she was found here or in another town though, was the question.

But how to approach? There were many options, each different and tailored to unique personalities she came across in her short travels for different events. Eventually she would get out on her own and explore of her own accord, but for now this was her option. It appeared no one was sitting next to the young woman, so she strolled over near her, many of the seats already taken. Which worked to her advantage in starting conversation. "Mind if I sit here?" Her voice was curt, but lilted slightly to feign a half-pleasant tone. Something that said 'I don't want to impose, but I'm not here to kiss up to you'. And, if the woman let her, she'd take a seat.

"An odd place, this Crater City. Been here before?"

Ri was interrupted from her inner thoughts by someone approaching with a friendly-ish tone. It wasn't the most irritating voice, and they sounded not too chatty... But vaguely pleasant. She slowly lifted up her head and turned to see the person was hovering over one of the open seats near the redhead. Feeling in a shitty mood and not really willing to pretend she wasn't gifted with the social graces of flaming trainwreck.... Whatever a trainwreck was. Or a train. Though, she remembered the effect of the phrase. Probably because she certainly knew 'flaming' from the time Ashfield caught fire a little.

She briefly contemplated telling her to go away. But... There was a possibility she might be an annoying sort of person who might get indignant, stick around, and generally be annoying. That would be... Generally not a great use of time. If she said yes... She'd probably have to socialize... But the interaction might be less antagonistic... Then again, Ri didn't mind a little argument. Hm... Did Ri actually have problems with someone sitting next to her? Eh. She guessed she was fine as long as there was no creepy touching. She sat up straight and made sure to make her posture a little more stiff... A little less friendly. Just in case this person was more.... Affectionate than Blue. Just in case.

Ri shrugged loosely with her shoulders. "Yeah, sure." She said, only just managing to bite down the slightly annoyed 'whatever' that threatened to slip from her lips. Then she was asked a question. She merely repeated the casual shrug. "... Nah. This is my first time here." She noted how this woman claimed Crater City to be odd. She imagined either... She didn't see anything wrong, simply different, or she was being polite. She wondered for what reasons this stranger claimed it to be odd. Was it for the right reasons? The answers to these questions would ultimately decide well... How Ri actually thought about this woman. She'd still be as rude and disrespectful as she wanted, regardless of how this woman answered... If she did.

".... Say, what's your name?" Ri asked, already deciding to call this lady Nonny if she didn't answer and couldn't think of a better nickname. She decided Nonny sounded dumb enough to be annoying.

Give & Take
At the acceptance of the seat, the short woman shifted her bag appropriately - the egg she'd bought at the fair a while back resting safely inside - and took a seat next to the woman. She'd noted the specific words, and the tone this younger woman had when stating she could sit here. Though technically the answer to her question had been incorrect for her to sit down, it was a standard that people responded as such to a question such as that as she asked. Still, she was aware and took her seat without any hesitation.

It was also her first time in this city as well, it seemed. Assuming the truth was being told, but she didn't see any reason this woman would lie at the moment. The response was casual enough, and it didn't seem there was any story on the subject for her to hide beneath such a response. She considered that the woman knew this, but brushed it off. If she was that good at masking her intentions, Arshia would figure out those charismatic traits further in the conversation. "The same for myself. I've passed by the city before on, but never had the chance to stop in. The people here are certainly much different than at my current home in Oasis Village."

The woman prompted for her name, and she was glad to hear the question. It meant she was, at the very least, not entirely closed to the possibility of having a conversation. Which was ideal, for her own purposes of trying to network and seek allies in a sea of chaos all around them. "My name is Gem. Much like the one I wear." She didn't feel the need to motion to the ruby gem sitting on her forehead, low and near her eyebrows, as she'd just verbally brought attention to it. It certainly got strange looks and comments, and a few who'd try to steal it, but it was something from her past. She felt almost stronger when she was wearing it. More calm, and peaceful as well.

"And yours, if I may ask?" She did not look over at Ri, but simply watched the people walking through the streets idly, her arms neatly folded on top of the bag in her lap. She wondered if the woman would give her name, and how the conversation might continue from here.

Ri noticed that the stranger said she was from Oasis Village, the same place Blue was from. Though, that didn't tell her much, really. Though... She was suspicious of the gem that the stranger wore on her forehead. It reminded of her own valuable bracelets made of metal, that she'd gotten looks for sometimes. However, she felt... An unexplainable attachment to them. She was pretty damn sure she'd kill a man to protect them. She wasn't going to point them out, however.

Interesting how the stranger's name was Gem. Given a gem for her name, or named because of the gem? It just seemed a little weird to Ri. No, she didn't believe she was being overly paranoid about a stranger. Then, naturally, Ri's own name was asked after. She shrugged. "Ri." She said simply, not particularly feeling up to elaborating on her name. It didn't matter if this woman knew why she called herself Ri or not. This was a stranger that she may or may not meet again in the future, but again. It didn't matter, not even the slightest bit.

She gazed off into the distance. Then she thought of a question to ask, to probe a bit, maybe. "So... Crater. What do you think of it?" She asked simply. Personally, she didn't like it. She thought this city was full of shit, honestly. She was suspicious of their whole... System. The way they worked rubbed her the wrong way, and honestly... She wasn't too impressed by what she'd heard and seen of Beta. She honestly wanted to spend the minimal amount of time in Crater, she was really only sticking around the festival. That was the only reason, and afterwards... She'd be on her way. She was glad to have come and see Blue and Bird again... But everything else was.... This whole city set her on edge, and poked at her nerves. She thought maybe it was... Some of those people she'd seen with burnt scars on their foreheads. Maybe it was the structure, she wasn't sure why it bugged her....

She blamed all those echoes of ghosts of memories. Those hardly remembered hazy impressions that seemed to guide her actions whether she liked it or not.

@Kaien ((I flailed to find something to write about in Ri's head here))
