Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

Sonia opened her token pouch again and slid the coins she had just been counting back into its safety. Her face was adorned with a big, dreamy smile, even more so than usual. Her cheeks were pink and her eyes sparkling with excitement at a thought only known to herself. She had picked a fairly quiet alley of Ashfield for this money-counting task, but Kaname, who was sitting in front of her, was still on guard, suspiciously glaring down any passing person. He didn't really understand tokens, but he knew they were something important to humans. It was a little foolish of Sonia to be showing off her treasure in the middle of the city, so he acted in her defense, making sure nobody came to bother her.

"Kaname! I have a surprise for you," she said, at last, suddenly leaning to hug him from behind. The Sylveon meowed in surprise, his vigilant expression softening. "Curtis has been so generous to pay me for the helping him with the house. I mean, I would have loved to help for free, too! But all the time spent at their place made me realize how wonderful it is to have a place to call your own. Can you imagine not having to sleep on the streets anymore? Of course, I feel so safe as long as I have you, but wouldn't you be happier in our own house?"

The young woman's excited voice was speaking too many words in a short time, making it difficult for Kaname to keep up with her and understand what she was talking about. He could sense, both from her dreamy tone and the warm, fuzzy feeling he read with his Fairy powers, that she was very happy about something. He wagged his tail in response, rubbing his head against her cheerfully. When one of them was happy, the other quickly picked up on it, which was either a result of their close friendship or Kaname's special abilities.

"I thought so! Curtis told me they're selling some houses, close to the forest, so this is the perfect chance! Let's go, Kaname!"

Sonia interpreted the Sylveon's positive reaction in her own way. She bolted up to her feet and almost ran down the streets of Ashfield, with her fox companion following eagerly behind her.

Even though she had officially started working, she spent the nights in her tent, somewhere in the less frequented alleys of the city. It wasn't that Curtis hadn't offered to let her stay at their house permanently. She visited nearly everyday to look after the kids and it was like she was a part of their family and Sonia felt like she belonged, too. But the woman simply refused. Yes, she was very happy to have some small humans to look after, it was a change from taking care of Pokémon all the time, but in her mind, it wouldn't be right to live there permanently. After all, she was also a trainer. One day she might want to leave and in the end, she wasn't really family to them, she was a housekeeper. Though she had grown attached quickly, her heart belonged to her real family... Which consisted of her Pokémon, for now.

Lots of happy images were forming in her mind as she was heading to her destination. She certainly wouldn't be able to afford a big place, but she would be happy with anything. Sonia was picturing having her own garden, where she could spend the long, summer evenings, drinking tea while her Pokémon would safely play on the grass... Oh, perhaps she could have tea parties with her friends! She wondered if Victor would enjoy those. Probably not, but Ghost would be another story. Would there be place for Sonia to plant her own vegetables? Cooking those for dinner would be so enjoyable. If it was satisfying to watch the delighted faces of her Pokémon as they ate meals prepared by her, it would be even greater if the food had been grown in her own garden, thanks to her care and effort.

Sonia was in the middle of decorating Bebe's bedroom in her imaginary house when she arrived at her destination. She stopped to catch a breath - she hadn't realized she had run out. But there was no time to waste, the woman decided as she continued to walk down a neat path running between two rows of wooden houses. Her head was turning left and right to take in the sights. The houses were small, as expected, appearing to only fit one or two bedrooms at most, but each one was surrounded by an elegant wooden fence that reached up to her waist. Each building was different in both size and shape, although the plots of land were around the same in size, which meant the sizes of the grassy gardens also varied.

Sonia was already trying to pick a favorite, but Kaname stared at her with a raised eyebrow. Why had they come here, to this part of the city they hadn't visited before? Did someone they know live here? But the only person in sight was a middle-aged woman, standing further down the same path and he didn't recognize her... But Sonia went straight up to her and the two exchanged polite smiles. Kaname followed in helpless confusion.

The trainer came to like this woman right away. Perhaps it was because she knew that this lady was responsible for what she had come here for, or perhaps it was her elegant yet welcoming appearance: blonde hair wrapped in a neat bun, a round face with a pair of pleasant blue eyes, a tight shirt, and a simple, straight skirt. She appeared very official, but Sonia was in no way intimidated. Instead, she reached out for a handshake as soon as she was in range.

"Hello! My name is Sonia and I'm here about a house!"

"Pleased to meet you, Sonia! My name is Stella and I handle the sales. How do you like it here?"

"It's amazing! I had no idea there were places like this in Ashfield. It looks like all of these were built together as living quarters!"

"That would be correct," Stella smiled warmly. "Our construction team has been building this small housing district over the past months, right here on the outskirts of the city. We've basically expanded the city a little closer to the forest, but that means living here brings you closer to nature. As you can see, we don't have too many houses yet, but as we sell what we have now, we expect to raise funds for more expansion."

Sonia took another look at the two rows of houses. Stella was right, each one only had about five buildings, so as impressive as this was, it appeared to be a small housing district. The brunette smiled widely. It was even better this way. She would have neighbors, but it would be quiet and peaceful. Ideal circumstances for those who didn't like crowds, like Azurill.

"Okay, I'm in!"

Stella chuckled nervously. "Aren't you eager? Let's see... What kind of a house are you looking for? We don't have much of a choice, as you can see, some of these have been sold already, too, but I'm sure we'll figure something out."

Sonia glanced at Kaname to consult him, but he tilted his head silently. He was starting to understand what was going on, but he didn't really have any specific needs. He was fine with whatever Sonia would want.

"Well, a tiny house is all we need. It's for me and my Pokémon only. Some space in the garden would be nice, but most importantly, we want a cozy place to sleep and eat."

Stella nodded patiently. Sonia's expectations weren't much at all, but they had a house that could meet these standards and not be as pricey as some of the others. After all, it was only a kitchen, a tiny sleeping area, the toilet and a bit of a garden. The saleswoman turned and led Sonia and Kaname to a wooden building near the end of the alley. She pointed to it unnecessarily, as the brunette was already staring at it with awe painted on her face.

Made with light-brown wood, the house was L-shaped, pushed into the corner of the square garden surrounded by the fence. Effectively, the fence met the building on two sides and ended there, letting the walls of the house finish its job at marking the territory. The house itself took up more than half of the area. The rest was nothing but neatly trimmed grass, carefully prepared to entice any potential buyers. The house had a high-pitched roof, wooden like the walls, but it had been painted red. Tiny windows and a single door decorated the walls and invited Sonia to see what might be inside. The woman approached the narrow gate and looked at Stella to confirm.

"So... Before I get too excited, how much is it?"

Jillian was the kind of a person who learned from their mistakes. Whenever something went wrong, she could use it as an experience to do better next time. This was how she treated her loss in the tournament.

It was fairly embarrassing to lose to a child, but she understood that there was a reason for that. Her Pokemon needed more training and discipline. She had to teach them new tricks and learn to work together with them in various circumstances. And while she was at it, she could get something for dinner.

Primrose was stepping behind her with a lack of certainty painted on her face. They left the buildings of Crater city behind them and headed to the plains, which could only mean that her trainer was planning some exploring or training. Or both at once. Either way, Primrose wasn't too enthusiastic about the idea, especially because Jillian had been very pleased with her performance. The Pachirisu was looking sideways nervously, hoping that she wouldn't be thrown into a battle against a tough opponent. After all, any kind of a victory she'd had was pure luck, the squirrel believed.

Jillian wasn't blind to the Pachirisu's anxiety - in fact, she was expecting it, because that's how the squirrel always reacted to the unknown. Admittedly, Primrose had lots of potentials, but Jillian figured she could work on some other members of her team. She tossed a pokeball against the ground, allowing the Litleo cub out. He yawned and stretched, reaching forward with his paws and clawing the ground playfully.

"Oh, are we gonna play here this time? This pleases me," he meowed, forcing a dignified tone.

"You're probably pretty good at hunting, aren't you? Show me what you're made of and I'll consider giving you a cool name," Jillian told him quietly, but the Litleo was already looking around for prey, a lot like she was. Primrose shook her head in disapproval, staying in the back.

Even for a fairly new arrival in Terrene like Jillian, the tension between Beta and Omega was apparent. She just happened to land next to Crater city and she had been taken in, at a cost visible on her forehead. Thanks to that, she had a place to sleep and food to eat, but she didn't exactly like being forced into the lowest group of the hierarchy and living the life of being told what to do. It wasn't that she disliked the city, though. In her current situation, remaining a part of the city's society was the safest decision.

She had strayed from the path of an ideal citizen when she helped Omega with the metal gathering task. It was a secret, of course. Still, just as Beta seemed intrigued by the purpose of this metal, so was Jillian. Not only because she felt like she deserved to know what the point of her hard work was, but also because she wanted to be informed of this conflict. She didn't want to stick with Beta just because she happened to arrive near his city - it was foolish to pick a side based on such simple, random factor. No, Jillian wanted to know exactly what was going, what each side represented and which one was the most beneficial for her. And since Beta was looking for someone to spy on Omega, what better opportunity did she have?

The journey was long and uncomfortable, as expected. A cart pulled by two Ponyta took her all the way to the mountains, choosing to stick near paths. Jillian was sat on the back, with Primrose resting on her shoulder. Both of them tried to spend most of the time sleeping. The rodent managed for quite some hours, as implied by her deep, relaxed breathing. Jillian figured that resting would be the best way to use this time, as there wasn't much else she could do, but the cart bumped on the uneven terrain frequently. She spent most of the journey alternating between desperate attempts at falling asleep and analyzing her Pokedex. It would also be a great opportunity to train, but there wasn't enough space... And this task would be a little too destructive.

Even in the cart, the journey was taking days. They were supposedly taking the longer way around to avoid the rough rocky terrain of Rolling Mountains. Eventually, they stopped. Onix Peak had been visible for a while - Jillian had been staring at it in anticipation, knowing that it was their destination - but its base was still further away and the supposed camp was nowhere to be seen, likely hidden on the other side of some cliffs. The branded carter looked back at the spy.

"This is as far as we go. If they see the cart, they might suspect something. It'll be better if you pretend to be a lost traveler or whatever."

He didn't seem very enthusiastic about this task, but Jillian could understand that. Going all the way here and then back, only to drop her off, did not sound like the best way to pass the time. She hopped off the wagon, with the sleepy Pachirisu in her arms. The rodent was yawning and stretching, slowly realizing that they had reached their destination.

"Thanks for the help," Jillian told the man without much emotion, knowing well that it wasn't really "help". It was his job. Still, if he was the one who would be picking her up once she was done, she didn't want to make enemies with him.

She heard the Ponyta neigh before their footsteps sounded and the wagon moved again. Jillian didn't bother looking back. She was heading forward to where the camp had to be, at the base of the mountain. On the way, she tied her long hair in a bun and wrapped a bandana around her head, covering the brand on her forehead. With a grimace of disgust, she reached down and spread some mud over the lower parts of her black pants, making herself look more like a genuine traveler. She urged Primrose to walk alongside her so that the Pokémon would also get a little dirty. It didn't hurt for her to get some exercise after their journey, either. Travelers were supposed to be exhausted and not well-rested, after all.

Jillian and Primrose went up a hill and they eventually saw the gathering of tents in an alley down the hill. The woman stretched one last time before she went on. It was time to get some information.

[Development for the sake of facing Azurill's issues and taking some big steps toward a happy future together! :D Hoping for loyalty gains for Azurill and Kaname, as well as some exp since there will be a short battle later. The Friendship Mouse project begins now.]

Months passed and Sonia's life in Ashfield had been going peacefully. She spent a lot of time helping out a family she had befriended (the widowed father, Curtis, found himself struggling with his 5 children, so she took care of cleaning and cooking for them), so she had plenty to do. There were also some more personal matters to take care of - such as her Pokémon. She could safely say that they were all her dear friends... Except one.

Azurill had been a problem since the moment she caught her... Or even the moment she first saw her, considering how that first meeting went. Sonia knew that the mouse was, to put it lightly, unhappy with her; it was hard to mistake trying to kill her on sight for any positive feelings. She had been trying to change things, of course. Azurill had to eat, so despite her hatred for Sonia, the woman let her out of the pokeball fairly often. Sonia would often try to approach the mouse during meal times, but she was always met with the same, painful result. It was a shame that they couldn't be friends and bringing Azurill back to her home was no easy task, considering the dangers that lurked on the way. So Sonia decided to keep trying.

It was a day like any other, seemingly, but the woman's head was full of optimistic thoughts. Today was the day when she would make friends with Azurill, she told herself, venturing into the outskirts of the forest, where Azurill would feel a little more comfortable. Kaname was stepping close to her, with a ribbon wrapped tightly around the girl's wrist. Sonia kept the others safely in their pokeballs - she wasn't sure if their presence stressed Azurill out, but it was better not to take any chances.

They found a quiet meadow and positioned themselves, side by side. Sonia took a deep breath and grabbed that pokeball. She stared at it for a moment as if she was searching for some answers - such as what Azurill's issue was. After another deep inhale, she tossed the orb against the ground.

Azurill emerged, blinking sleepily. She scanned her surroundings but found no food as she usually did... Only the dumb human and her equally dumb slave. Her eyes narrowed.

"Haven't bothered me in a while?" she hissed, bouncing closer and giving Sonia a scolding glare. "When will you ever learn that I hate you and don't want to see your stupid face again?"

Normally, Sonia wished she could speak the Pokémon language for the sake of easier communication, but Azurill made her glad she didn't possess that kind of a power. The tone was enough to let her know just how mean her words had to be. She had been intimidated by it before, but she had gotten used to it enough to be able to put on a fake smile and slowly crouch down. Kaname focused his eyes, disapproving of the risks she was taking.

"Azurill, please. It's been months. You could start being nicer already. You know that I won't hurt you," Sonia insisted patiently, smiling pleasantly. Azurill glared her down. She hated the sound of the human voice.

"Did you not hear me? I. Hate. You."

"Come on, Azurill, I don't know what you're saying, but it doesn't sound nice. You know what they say, don't bite the hand that feeds you."

"Leave me be, you insistent fool!"

"I'll give you chocolate if you're nicer!"

She had come prepared. The woman reached into her pocket, swiftly but with gentle movements, so that Azurill wouldn't feel threatened. She took out a neatly wrapped sweet heart. The chocolate let out a sweet smell; Sonia had noticed how it made her other Pokémon's noses wiggle with interest. It had to work on Azurill too, right?

She held the sweet up for the mouse to see. The beady eyes focused on it. She could smell it. That human thing was something yummy... What was the human doing? Did she now have to earn her right to eat by interacting with this annoying creature? Azurill frowned. She refused to be defeated so easily. She stood still, looking away from the treat.

"Don't be like that~" Sonia chirped teasingly. "You know you want it! Look, you know that I don't want to hurt you."

Sonia reached toward Azurill, slowly and with her palm facing up, allowing the mouse to see her innocent intentions. She had given the blue Pokémon plenty of peace offerings and reaching out like this was yet another of them. For a split second, Azurill was watching the offered hand with a relatively non-angry expression, like she was considering... But then she bounced off her tail and used it to slap Sonia's hand away.

The girl immediately moved back, grabbing her hand with the other to massage it. The sweet heart dropped on the ground. Azurill hopped backward to get away from them as Kaname stepped forward, giving the mouse a cold glare.

It didn't physically hurt more than other attacks Azurill had done on her, but Sonia finally cracked. After months of trying, she was met with the very same result, the very same hostility... Just how much longer did she have to endure it? She stood up slowly.

"Then go! I would hate to make you suffer any more. So just, please... Be on your way now. Your home is that way!"

She struggled to keep her voice from raising as she pointed to the depths of the forest, in the direction where the Crying Plateau was while looking down with her hair covering her face. Azurill followed the pointed direction with her eyes, then glanced back at the trainer. She was not saying any more, only waiting, with her expression hidden from view. That didn't leave her with a lot of choices, Azurill supposed. The message was clear. Quietly and surprisingly obediently, she turned and bounced off, disappearing behind the trees.

Sonia lowered her arm eventually, still steadily looking down. She didn't want to be seen like this. Not by Azurill and not by Kaname. She immediately regretted the harsh tone - at least harsh by her standards. But she stood by her decision. Her hands grew cold and began to shake, much like her chest and her shut lips as she tried to keep her emotions in. A tear rolled down her cheek, but she was certain that nobody would be able to see it if she only didn't look up...

Then something warm and fluffy wrapped around her hand, gently yet firmly. The comforting gesture helped Sonia regain control over her body, but in her shock, she looked up, forgetting that her face carried evidence of how terribly she was feeling. Kaname was standing right by her side, looking straight into her eyes, patiently and empathically.

"Sonia... I'm here for you," he meowed softly, letting his fairy powers work their magic in an attempt to lift the trainer's spirits. He didn't have to see her crying face to know.

"I'm fine, Kaname! It's all okay. Don't worry about me, please" the woman insisted, forcing a smile through her tears as she leaned down to pet him.

The Sylveon accepted the pat on the head with a suspicious frown.

"It is not very nice to lie," he told her, mimicking her usual cheerful tone, staring at her intensely. He wasn't letting this go, just like he wasn't letting go of her hand.

Sonia stared back, trying to wait it out, but the Sylveon's analytical yet concerned gaze and the way he insisted on holding on to her made it clear. He wasn't buying it. Perhaps it was his emotion reading power, perhaps it was because she wasn't being very good at hiding her feelings, especially not from the one who knew her better than anyone else. After all, he had been loyally assisting her ever since she arrived in Terrene. Her fake smile faded and she winced in sorrow, dropping to her knees.

"I-I'm sorry, Kaname... It's just that..." Sonia struggled to talk through her sobs as she was looking for the right words. Speaking of her own negative feelings was so... difficult. "I've only ever tried to be nice to everyone. I want to try and be friends with everyone, people and Pokémon. And yet, Azurill hated me... so much. I just don't understand what I did to deserve that. No matter what I did... Nothing changed."

Words starting flying out on their own once she started. She was partially aware that at least half of the things she said were making her seem whiny, but at this point, she didn't care. It felt good to get it off her chest.

Kaname stepped closer and leaned toward her to nuzzle against her cheek. The woman continued sniffing, but she smiled through her tears, this time in a natural manner.

"Sorry to make you worried... I... I feel better now. Thank you for listening, Kaname..."

The Sylveon smiled back as she wrapped her arms around him and gave him a tight hug. He felt like she needed it. And whether it was because of his continuous use of his fairy aura or because she finally talked about what was making her hurt... He could sense that she really was feeling better.

"Let's go back, Kaname," Sonia suggested in her light-hearted tone. So it had been done. Azurill left. She couldn't blame her and it was rather disappointing... But at least the mouse would be happier this way.

When she was first told about the pest problem, Sonia didn't see the issue. It was only natural that Pokémon needed to eat, too. Some of them found their own snacks, others had to rely on, well, another kind of strategies. She felt like it was a little selfish of the humans to keep their harvested food for themselves. She wondered why everyone couldn't just get along.

However, as days passed, she would hear more and more complaints. Even the family she had been helping seemed affected by the issue. Curtis, the widowed father of the family, earned tokens thanks to the berries and other goods he would find in the wilderness. He had been selling them to various merchants but as their storages suffered the attacks of wild Rattata and Zigzagoon, he feared that they might go out of business soon... Which would mean no work for him.

Sonia was still full of empathy for the hungry rodents, but she agreed to help out. She had a certain Pokémon that could talk things out with them, after all. Surely, Bebe would enjoy meeting her distant cousins. With the Rattata cradled in her arms, the woman headed to a cellar that was used as a storage for various merchants. The sun was beginning to set and the rodents supposedly preferred striking at night, when there were no humans around. This had to be the best chance to find them, she was told.

"We'll handle things peacefully," the woman said in her bright tone, making promises to both herself and her toddler companion.
