Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new universe, this new world, and give it purpose. (Our site is best viewed in Firefox or Chrome.)

Events

The biggest event of the
season- of the year, even- is the Anniversary Fair! We also have a lore contest for the month of November, and our plot events are still going strong.

Season

Autumn will be here until
December. All of Terrene is cooling by degrees; those in Ashfield scarcely notice because it never truly gets cold there, though they will notice the decreased rains and humidity. Winds pick up, particularly in the southern areas. Ghost types are more common this season.

(Raising Hubris and Pyre's loyalty up)

Summer was hot, there was no question about that. And in the jungle of the Western Great Forest, it was even hotter. Hubris could feel the heat even from the inside of the house he was in. What was that other woman's name that Shadow lived with? Margot? Normally he wouldn't be paying attention to such details, but he had been living there for quite a while and he was missing the arctic temperatures from his homeland.

How long had he been here, now? He wasn't sure, there was no such things as months or years where he was from. But there were seasons, there was the warm season and then there was the cold season. But this weather in the place he had come to live in- What was it again? Ashfield?- was so unexpected and unpredictable that he couldn't fathom time. All he knew was that it was hot and getting hotter. Would he end up being burned? That's what it seemed like to him.

"Hubris, are you okay?" Shadow asked him one day as he barely pecked at his food. He chirped weakly as he tried to eat, feeling sick to his stomach. "Here, let me help." He put a flipper on her hand and glared at her, clearly offended. "Fine, I won't help." He was feeling dizzy and sick and hot as she turned back to her own meal, rather reluctantly at that. He missed his home more and more with each passing minute and he wanted nothing more than to be in the cold cold waters again, somewhere far, far away from the hot hot jungle with its hot hot humidity- was humidity even hot? Not like he could understand that concept anyway- and boy did he miss his home more than ever.

Without warning, he keeled over onto his side, something that went unnoticed by Shadow until she looked back. "Hubris?!" She immediately rushed to her Pokemon and felt his forehead. It was hot and he was limp in her hands. "Oh legendaries above what do I do?!" She was home alone, having been granted a break from Dana's tailorshop for a while and Margot didn't come home until late. She had no idea how to handle the sick Piplup that had fallen over and she didn't think anyone else could help. "A-Ah..." Swallowing a lump in her throat, she picked up the Piplup and rushed him to her bed.

Miki was providing light to a sleeping Shadow as she glanced over at the sick Pokemon on the pillow. Shadow had been working hard trying to feed him food and cool him down with a wet cloth, though it seemed to do little for his condition. When Margot got home, she had asked Shadow if she could take him to the doctor's office. She didn't want to, thinking it might be too late if she took him outside where it was even hotter. Margot had grudgingly let her deal with Hubris alone and she soon found herself working until late in the night to heal her sick Pokemon.

And now here she was, sleeping. Miki looked at her trainer with a look of pity. She never had a Pokemon in her old life, so she wouldn't know what it would be like to worry about a pet's condition. But she knew what it was like to be in distress because a friend was in trouble, and right now Hubris was in trouble. The only thing she could really give was light and maybe a couple of her contraptions she used as traps, but she doubted Shadow would like that. So she simply stuck with providing light and using her hands to carry things for her.

It was funny how Shadow had come to trust her as the days went by. Sure she was very much put off by her traps, her toys that is, but she had grown to be a part of the team that seemed to just grow and grow as time went on. Not that she minded, it meant more playmates for her. But honestly, she had even shown trust that one time when they were investigating the disappearance of a child, something she didn't forget easily due to what happened when they found the boy. But still, Shadow had trusted her despite her tricks and she was happy that the other trusted her to that kind of degree.

How far would that trust go, though? She didn't know. It wasn't like she was going to lead her off a cliff or something, but she wondered if she would trust her not to leave her in the paws and jaws of wild Pokemon should the time come. Honestly, Miki would never do that, but the Litwick couldn't help but wonder how far that trust went. Would she trust her with her own life? That was a heavy thing to think about and she hated heavy things to think about.

Like her sick friend, Hubris, for example. She turned her body to face his unconscious form. He had been very sick this whole time and it worried her that she was unable to do anything but be a candle. She knew very well not to play tricks on sick beings like her mom used to say and he was very sick at that. So she helped, not wanting to lose a friend like...well...that was in the past, right? She was a Litwick now, a Litwick named Pyre. But she still kept ties to her old life, her name being one of those things. And her personality too, was a part of it. But she had changed much since that time and, well, look at her now, being a part of a Pokemon team that grew under the hands of a stubborn trainer. Caring, but stubborn.

Her thoughts flickered back to Shadow. The girl was really something, in her opinion. She wondered, if she was still alive, would she be friends with her? But that was a long time ago and she might've been a young woman by then so that point was moot. Still, she couldn't help but wonder... And she continued to wonder even as she fell asleep, her flickering flame illuminating the area and Hubris the Piplup's face.

Hot. Tired. Sick. Dizzy. Hubris flew in and out of consciousness as he tasted sick and delicious at the same time. He couldn't tell what was more overpowering, the throw up or the food. But still, he remained in place, feeling hot and sick and dear arctic waters he just wanted it all to end.

There was somewhere there beside him, wasn't there? He couldn't tell, some things flickered in and out, out and in. Some small, a few big, he couldn't tell. There was one constant dark shape, though; a big one at that. Was it...his trainer? He couldn't tell. But that presence placed something wet on his forehead and he always felt so so happy when he was wet that he wanted to cry out. But his voice was too weak so he just remained there, lying on something plush.

That presence was comforting, in all honesty. He wanted it to be beside him forever, just so he could feel the water again. He wasn't swimming, though, and it was a shame he wasn't swimming. No, not a shame, a travesty. But it wasn't like he knew that word anyway.

Sick. He felt so, so sick. He wondered why it was so hot and he so clammy and who that presence beside him was and a whole lot of other things that he couldn't really focus on. His mind kept flickering back and forth, back and forth. It was amazing how he managed to go this long without being sick in the first place, but that thought never crossed his mind. Only the strong, dark presence was there to comfort him.

He would let out a cry whenever the presence left. He wanted it by his side, always. And though his pride would be hurt if he even knew who it was, he would at least find the sentiment comforting. Heck, his pride would be hurting if he was sane and not sick because Piplups don't get sick, ever. But here he was, sick.

The presence was back again and he blinked open his eyes blearily as the dark presence took something and placed it on his forehead. It was wet, wonderfully wet. He chirped out to the presence, trying to reach for the wet in front of him, but he ended up passing out again. When he awoke again, he would want to be by that presence again, of that he was sure.

Miki was helping Shadow again, carrying a tiny bucket of water with the help of a few other friends. Yes, her Pokemon teammates were her friends and friends were something you have to stick up for, right? Regardless, she was helping and that was all that mattered.

"Thanks you guys," Shadow said as she took the bucket and placed it on her bed, "Pyre can you come up on the bed, please? I need light." The Litwick nodded and hopped back onto the bed, watching as Shadow replaced the towel for another wet one. Everyone was worried that Hubris wouldn't make it, and she hated the thought of meeting him as a ghost. Sure, she didn't care much about her own death since she never thought about it- too painful to- but the death of a friend didn't sit well with her and she wanted to prevent that, at the very least.

The night grew longer and soon everyone was asleep. Everyone but her at least. After all, it was the witching hour and she was always awake at the witching hour, it had become a regular thing ever since she had died. But even she couldn't keep her eyelids from drooping and she was about to nod off when she heard a groan. Those eyes instantly snapped open and she looked over to Hubris. The Piplup was finally awake and looking very...well, sick. But he wasn't calling out for water or for the presence that she assumed was Shadow so there was that.

"Where...am I?" he chirped weakly as he turned his head to look at Miki.

"In Shadow's bed. You've been sick for a while now," she explained as he moaned.

"I think...I'm a little better?" He struggled to get up, only for the Litwick to push him back down.

"Don't move yet, you're still sick," she said.

"No I'm not."

"Are too, and I can prove it. Do you still want water?"

"Yes...so hot..."

"See? You're still sick. Stay there, okay? I'll change the towel..." She bit her lip as he moaned while she was replacing the towel on his forehead for a wet one.

"The presence...still here?" he croaked.

"Yep, still here. You don't need to worry about anything for now." He sighed happily.

"Thank goodness..." Pause. "Miki?"

"Yeah?"

"Can you tell me...who that presence is? I'm so confused and dizzy..." She bit her lip again.

"It's Shadow."

"Sh-Shadow?"

"Yeah..." There was a long pause and she thought he had gone and died on her when he spoke again.

"Thanks...presence..." And then he was out like a light. The ghost type sighed as she went back to her position and continued to keep the light on with her flame. She hoped that with each passing day, he would get better. But for now, she had to rest, despite it being the witching hour. Soon she was off napping, dreaming a nightmare concerning flames and a charred bird...

Hubris' fever broke the next morning and everyone was relieved when he ate with gusto and without throwing up. So relieved, in fact, that Shadow had prepared a little something for him for the occasion. "Hey look, I made something for you Hubris!" she said as she presented her gift, "Tada! What do you think? I made it out of scraps from Dana's shop!" He stared at the frilly outfit and crossed his flippers with a "Hmph!" "Hey, don't be mean. This is for you, now that you're better. So come on, wear it!" He immediately slapped her hand away when she got too close for comfort. "Sheesh, fine."

While Shadow was grumbling and putting away the outfit, not wanting to waste it, Hubris couldn't help but think back to the presence he sort of saw when he was sick. Was it really Shadow? ...Well, he did wake up to see her not on the bed for once, but rather on the side.It was a little embarrassing, falling sick like that. He didn't want that to happen again.

But still, the presence was...nice. Kind and, dare he say, beautiful. He'd never thought a shadow, a mere silhouette, would be beautiful until now. His mild crush on the presence was embarrassing and he didn't want to admit it, especially if it was his trainer. But it was nice, and he got better because of her. He supposed he owed her his life...sort of.

He ran towards Shadow as she was coming out of the room, only to trip. He flailed his flippers as he nearly fell flat on his face, only caught by guess who? Shadow, that's who. "Easy there, Hubris, you're still a little wobbly," she said as she helped him get back onto his feet. He let out another "Hmph!" and crossed his flippers again. She was about to move her hand away when he suddenly bumped his head against it. "...What?" He then promptly waddled away, not as fast as running, but fast enough to see that he was embarrassed by the action. She couldn't help but laugh, glad to see her Pokemon being better.

▲▲ +100 tokens for completing a topic

▲▲ +4% loyalty for Hubris

This was a good read and a good scenario to gain some loyalty from these two trouble makers. I particularly loved reading Pyre's inner monologue. Also, I really hope that Hubris' crush on Shadow is a continuing theme, because AWWWW.
