Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

Shell
24 - Nonbinary - Pansexual
Appearance
The first thing one might notice about Shell would be their hair, though not for a particularly flattering reason. Bearing the tell-tale split ends and frizz of too much free time and an abuse of bleaching kits, it less delicately frames their face so much as it provides them with an in-built, vertical pergola. The second thing one might notice about Shell would be the abundance of accessories they have come to use in the endeavor of taming said hair. Most prominent of which is the large, stylized Lucky Egg charm they're never found without.

Behind the Rattata's nest they call hair lies a somewhat plain face. Dull tan skin pockmarked by puberty, flat grey eyes that seem to never blink, and a mouth made plump by nervous biting being the highlights of Shell's facial geography. Never far from our landscape was a hand - whether it be thumbing their chin or tugging on a strand of yellow-brown hair, it was an ever present reminder of their discomfort.

Not that one would need much reminder; the young adult carried themself as if one jostle would shatter their thin veil of safety. It would almost remind one of a Honchcrow, if Honchcrow weighed 100lbs and tested every step before taking it. To call Shell gangly would be an understatement: cannibals would find no reprieve from hunger in the wake of their death, nor would a hungry Druddigon find dinner for her brood. A newborn Cubone lacking a club, however, would be quite lucky to happen upon a beleaguered Shell.

In some amount of contrast to the rest of their being, Shell's voice is smooth, deep, and steady. Though rarely heard by any other than their Pokemon, it seems to hold a confidence one would not expect from such a harrowed looking individual. Whether this betrays their true nature or it is simply a marvelous display of acting prowess is up to those they interact with. There is only one thing made clear through Shell's appearance:

They may have left the Suffering Universe, but it has yet to leave them.

Art by a dear friend.
Personality
Behind Shell's frayed nerves coiled a bright and furious curiosity. It was quick, agile, keen. All things Shell was not made to be, yet was all the same. Their curiosity was not simply the drive to know, but to seek - to pursue their fixations until all possibilities exhausted, all Binacle upturned. Perhaps if born in Terrene, they would have become a researcher or an explorer. Perhaps they would have nurtured their curiosity into something greater.

But Shell was not born in Terrene. Shell was born in a world destined to be consumed by chaos. And with chaos pushing at the corners of reality - with chaos distorting time and space and even the safety of one's own mind - curiosity was not an instinct to be honed. Curiosity ended lives.

That bright spark so eager when young was soon wrapped in a cocoon of doubt, a caution so overzealous it found anxieties in the shapes of the clouds. There was a nervous energy about Shell, as though their true reactions were locked away in favour of the safest course. Fire was not to be played with and night was not to be braved, strangers not to be trusted no matter how interesting their stories.

Shell would never call themself paranoid. Paranoia, they would explain, is baseless. Paranoia was dangerous. They would never want to be paranoid - and so they aren't. It was a simple enough explanation, but of course, simple is rarely true when it comes to humans. There were always times when the world seemed overwhelming. When nothing was safe, and never would be.

There was something that always soothed the fear, however. Pokemon. Young, old, poison to fairy, Pokemon soothed the beast that bubbled up inside. Pokemon, you see, needed to be cared for. They were so fragile when young, so prone to the world and it's shadows. And deep within themself, Shell had a secret. Something to be nurtured: A seed so tiny, so dried up it was almost unknowable - but it was there, and it was strong.

A seed of courage. To protect what needs protecting. To raise what needs raising. An instinct stronger than the fear; love. Devotion. A self sacrificial pull towards those who need helping.

This was what drove Shell. Curiosity, fear, and courage.
History
Hunger. It was an overwhelming hunger that overtook Vivi Bidoofson - later known as Shell - early in their youth. It began simply, as most desires do. Their parents took them to a local contest in Slateport as a birthday gift. Eyes wide, the young child had watched as Pokemon and their trainers pranced across stage and preformed feats of gymnastics, dance, even harmonized song. Vivi never wanted the show to end, and then the last contestant appeared, the one to fill a child's dreams for years to come: an old man with an Espeon the colour of rusty copper pots.

To Vivi, the psychic type seemed to glow in the spotlight, radiant and otherworldly. It moved with such grace it seemed to float, preformed with such zeal that the child almost mistook it for a legendary - almost. They knew enough about the world at that age to know that somehow this was not right. Rather, that this was right, and everything else wrong. This was a real Pokemon. This was real beauty.

Years later, they still blamed their cracked tooth on the face splitting grin they had for the rest of the night.

Vivi studied from then on, doggedly hunted for more information on these "shiny" Pokemon. In their efforts they found something they loved even more than the thought of that radioactive Espeon. The crack of an egg, the mewls and growls and puffs of infant Pokemon. Vivi loved breeding. Vivi loved raising Pokemon.

And so they did. Through the beginning of the world ripping apart, into the collapse, the earthquakes, the acidic rain. They continued to take care of the Pokemon that needed protecting. It was all they could do. Thoughts of the Espeon were rare and wistful, short lived while cowering in their old home, their body curled against eggs to keep them warm and alive. Somehow it felt normal. It felt natural.

It took them far too long to realize something was wrong.

The eggs had already hatched. The babies had already crawled out - three perfectly healthy Oddish, doomed to a life with infrequent sunlight. Despite this - CRACK! - the eggs shook once more. Their shed shells were nowhere to be found, the Oddish missing from the premises. And the Pokemon that emerged? They were not Oddish. They were Caterpie this time, slowly crawling out of the safety of their eggs. The Pokemon that followed were neither Oddish nor Caterpie. After that? Gastly. Then Cutiefly, Patrat, Growlithe.

None of the Pokemon lived a full day, and Vivi was left to care for them in with the knowledge they would soon cease to be. They would just have to make it a good existence.
