Night passed and morning came, peaceful and free from any interruption from outside forces. The sun started to rise, orange hues crashing through the darkness and into the crevices of the hills, eventually finding its way to Ri and her little camp. The chills of the night still held strong, the light breeze pushing through the valleys in between the ever taller hills, the ground coated in a light layer of cold dew. It would be a few hours still before the warmth of the sun would provide some relief from the chill.

But a loud, rather colorful but sharp bird call rang out - and from the sound of it, the bird was flying just above them. The sound was short and to the point, but the subtle sound of flapping wings indicated that the creature was still close by, watching them and waiting for something. It didn't get closer, and didn't do anything aggressive if they popped out in alarm, too high to be threatened by the group but clearly able to see them. The black and white feathers of the bird ere contrasted by the bright orange and yellow rings along the long, sharp beak that shot out of a thin head.

Footsteps crunched quickly in the soft, wet dirt as another answered to the call, moving over a hill and appearing on top of one, continuing his quick pace as he pushed forward, bow and arrow in hand and half drawn. He got a look at the tent and campers, if he was able to see them, and stopped his advance partially down the hill. "Oi, Cretia, we aren't hunting travelers here." Though he sounded sure that they were so, he seemed to be stricken with a bit of confusion, but didn't seem to let much show on his expression.

He lowered his bow fully, not really interested in making them think he was threatening. "Sorry 'bout all the noise. Just looking for a good meal, and maybe some extra food for the road." He eyed the woman and her pokemon quickly, hard features sternly holding his expression mostly neutral. "What brings you out 'ere without a proper group? I don't see many risking the hills without some help to keep 'em safe." If he played his cards right, perhaps they could help each other out.

The darkness came and went, without incident. Which was nice. Ri's nightmares were plenty enough without adding life threatening danger on top of it. Regardless, morning was here again and she figured it was time to get on the move again. Taking a breath, she unconsciously tugged at her jacket, thinking it was still pretty chill up here. She doubted the breeze helped much. It wasn't nearly as strong or fierce as the winds from the day before, however wind always made you feel colder than you were.

Before the redhead could usher her group into moving onwards, a sharp cry grabbed Ri's attention. She immediately looked upwards, to see a bird flying upwards. She stiffened and narrowed her eyes at the bird pokemon, feeling somewhat threatened by its presence.

Then she snapped her gaze to someone who was approaching, with a half-readied weapon. She took a step back from the man she felt was intruding. She glared at him, before schooling her features down into something less... Antagonistic. She wasn't unable to hide her discomfort stemming from his presence, but she looked less like she on the verge of pouncing and punching him in the face. She slowly let go of her jacket, and forced her arms to relax at her sides.

It helped when the man seemed to call off his bird and lowered his weapon in full. She sighed. ".... I'm just traveling." She said, keeping her answer relatively short. "Don't need anyone else."

He studied the young woman, from her movements to her facial expressions to the way she held herself. Even her words and tone gave way to information about this traveler, and the kind of person she was. It was important in his craft to be able to read another's movements and anticipate course of action, both in prey and predator. Humans were always tougher than pokemon, but he was able to get the gist.

It didn't take a rocket scientist to tell she wasn't exactly pleased with his sudden appearance. In her shoes, he wouldn't exactly feel comfortable either. Her forced relaxation was a positive sign though. While she might not be interested in socialization or the like, there was still a chance she'd be receptive to a proposition. From her short words, he knew he'd have to keep it brief and to the point.

Which, was how he preferred things anyway. He didn't exactly lead a very social life himself. "Other people are a liability and unpredictable. I can relate." He motioned with one free hand to the lack of people around him, a half-smirk forming on his face. "I won't hold you up if you need to go, but I've got a proposition for you." His eyes flickered to the seviper near her. Yes, that would work perfectly.

"I'll keep this frank. I found a partially collapsed entrance to a cave not too far off from here. I was able to get a good enough look inside to tell there was some gear left behind, and not a living soul to be found. Unfortunately, my pokemon and I can't get in, but that snake of yours or another small pokemon would be able to slide into the cave no problem." He cleared his throat, curious to how she would respond. "What do you say? I show you the way, you get the goods, and we split the find?" He patiently waited her answer, not getting his hopes up and certainly not offended if she declines.

Connections and empathy. That was a thing that Ri understood that people used to form bonds and get other people to like them. To not come off as radically different, to slowly introduce themselves as people who were similar, and show off their differences and quirks later. The redhead didn't really think she was a fan. If people couldn't take the idea that someone was going to be different, then fuck them. Ri's policy was to be herself. Which was probably too blunt and rude, don't hold anything back. Which often didn't endear herself to other people, since apparently she came off as cranky or some bullshit. She wasn't cranky, and if she was... She had a damn right to be. With how terrible the world could be and how shitty the people in it could be.... She felt like it was dumb how some people genuinely thought to smile whenever. She'd smile when she felt like it dammit! Wait, wait, okay. Her thoughts were digressing from the matter at hand, which was this weirdo in front of her, with the big, possibly a little deadly bird.

Listening, it seemed like the guy wanted to strike a deal. His eyes seemed to briefly shift off of her. To the side of her where... Venom was. Shit. Okay, what did he want with Venom? If it was harmful in any way, she didn't give a shit about the Trumbeak in the sky, she would fucking rip his lungs out and shove them up his ass, and choke him on his own stupid bird's wings.

.... Okay, now she was actually listening to the deal this guy was proposing. Apparently, there was a cave that was a bit blocked off, that had some sort of loot he wanted inside. Apparently, he needed Venom to get inside and grab the stuff he wanted. However, he claimed he was willing to share the goods. Of course, she had no real guarantee. She didn't feel like straight up asking him... But if his deal wasn't good, she could always stab him. Then she wondered why she was thinking about doing this. Well.... Admittedly, she was a bit curious and the stuff could be nice. It wasn't like a little delay would kill her.... Hopefully.

She sighed and crossed her arms. "Alright, sure. I'm in. So, where is this cave?"

The man was patient as the redhead went through her thought process, weighing his proposition and deciding on an answer. When she agreed to help out, he nodded approvingly, one arm reaching up and pointing up the path ahead - a similar direction to that which she'd already been travelling. "Just a bit north, and a little to the west. Shouldn't take too long to get to, and then we can both be on our way." He wasn't exactly looking for more company either, but wanted to see what was in that bag.

His arm adjusting back naturally, he moved down the hill towards the ravine - notably not towards her, but also not away from her. Now on more equal footing to the woman, he motioned for her to follow, keeping a bit of distance in between them for now. He turned to start walking, whistling to the bird to follow. If she needed more time, he'd look back and notice, silently waiting for her to begin following him.

And true to his words, it didn't take more than about half an hour. He weaved through the hills, the drops and risen land being much higher and lower than when she'd first start travelling through this area. With a small curve around a hill towards the westward direction, the slope started to go down an a bit sharper of an angle, a collection of dirt and rocks at the bottom. Once they got close enough, the man stopping at the entrance, she'd be able to see the small-ish hole at the bottom of it, a few rocks off to the side where he had pulled them out before to get a look inside.

He squated down, arching his back to get another look inside while the trumbeak perched at the top of the cave-in. "'Here it is. I think your snake would have no problem getting through there." The whole was just under 2 feet in diameter, giving enough room that the seviper would be able to get in. Assuming Venom cooperated, he'd find plenty of space inside the cave-in that he could turn around once inside, and get back out. The bag was resting inside, but there was no sign of an owner aside from a faint scent of death creeping from the tunnel hidden behind.

Ri cast a glance in the direction that the guy pointed towards. The path ahead, which didn't seem to go far off the path she needed to travel in. She guessed this wouldn't be a ridiculous detour. Honestly, the only problem that might persist was the faint possibility this guy would show off douchey colors later. Though, thus far she didn't think she saw any signs so far... And she liked to believe she was good at judging people, even if it was a little too hard. Not that she trusted this stranger, though.

Ri shrugged. She let him take the lead, and she followed with Venom and Sai following behind her. She didn't quite see, but she wasn't the only one who would warily glance upwards at Trumbeak soaring in the sky. Venom and Sai both kept looking up at the bird in the sky, that could quite possibly pick them off too easily, the advantage of fleeing to the sky on its side. Venom was unable to attack from a distance, but Sai could. However, the Psyduck didn't really want to deal with fighting the Trumbeak, and she was of far less confidence than Venom. She lacked his overblown ego, and even Venom felt a pang of wariness ache underneath his scales in regards to the bird flying high in the sky.

Regardless, Ri followed this guy. She didn't say anything though, staying silent for once. No smart comments, not saying anything for the simple purpose of ending the silence.

Around half an hour later... Ish. Ri felt like there was something to do to be absolutely sure, that she couldn't do, but half an hour felt... Right. Even if she didn't quite trust that sense at the same time. Though, as she continued to follow the choppy elevation of the land became worse, and she wondered if this guy frequented the mountains or if he just had a better sense of how to navigate it. It was difficult, but she basically just followed the guy's steps. Though, when she looked over her shoulder, Sai and Venom had some more troubles following... Though, they seemed to be managing okay... Probably.

Then they reached the guy's destination. Ri tilted her head and looked at the small hole at the bottom of the collapsed entrance. She crouched down and squinted at it a bit. ".... Alright." The redhead looked over her shoulder. "Oi, Venom." She called. The Seviper slithered up next to her and passively flicked his tongue at her. "So... Can you go through?" She pointed into the hole. "Get the bag and come back? .... Fetch?" She couldn't resist tacking on at the end. After a moment's hesitation, Venom seemed to understand well enough.

The poison-type slithered towards the hole and slithered inside. Venom was pretty sure he got the gist of what the red-haired human wanted. Something about going into the hole and bringing something back...? He wasn't too sure what he was looking for, though. After slipping into the cave, he found plenty of room to move, however. He didn't notice much other than a stench and... A human sack of something. He guessed the sack was what the human wanted. Doing his best not to damage it, he tried to pick it up in his mouth. Though, he was probably poking it a bit too hard with his fangs. Holding onto it, he slithered back through the hole and back to the red-haired human, dropping the bag.

Ri smiled the briefest of smiles at the Seviper, not really wanting the guy to see or get the impression she was... Vulnerable or any of that bullshit. So, instead she wore a passive expression as she held up the bag. "Guessing this is what we're looking for."

He waited idly as the woman worked with her snake to get the goods. She was straight-forward about it, and though it took a moment, the seviper seemed to understand, or so he hoped. The creature slithered into the hole, and he resisted the temptation to lean in and watch, not wanting either of them to think anything suspicious of the action. No, he preferred this encounter went smoothly, and not end in violence. After a couple minutes, the pokemon returned, the bag in his mouth earning a half smirk from the hunter.

Waiting another moment, the young woman held up the bag with a rather blank expression, clearly not seeking to display any information about her feelings on it. He was fine with that - this wasn't an encounter that was exactly very emotional, and he preferred it that way. This was simply a matter of doing business, and he was happy to keep it that way. Slowly he reached and took the bag, making sure she wasn't against it. Once it was in his possession, he knelt to the ground and started to open the twine fastening at the top to see what was inside.

The rewards weren't bad. He pulled out a few stones, recognizable as a flint and steel for starting fires, a stack of bundled white leave herbs, a bottle full of medical paste she might remember seeing labeled as a potion, and then a smaller pouch of tokens. He opened the pouch and dumped the tokens on the ground, counting them out to a total 50, before separating them into two stacks of 25. "Well, not as great as I'd been hoping, but not too bad. Split the tokens, and you can have the herbs and potion if I can keep the flint and steel. Sound good?"

If she agreed, he'd scoop up the tokens, flint, and steel and shove them haphazardly in his pockets. They could be put away more properly later. He'd nod towards Ri, before turning and heading off, assuming she had nothing more to say. If she wanted to change the deal, he'd be willing to negotiate, and would take his leave once the deal was complete. Either way, he was ready to go separate ways, and the trumbeak seemed more than happy to get away from the seviper and his group as they started off, the man climbing up the nearest hill rather than remaining at the bottom.

Ri watched with a blank expression and crossed arms as the man emptied out the bag he'd wanted, and looted it of its contents. She was able to see plainly what was in it. There were some herbs, some flint and steel, tokens, and.... A bottle of... Something. Hm. It nudged at her mind in a good way, so she supposed that was something. Anyway, the man seemed to separate it 50/50. She listened to his proposition of splitting the goods. She shrugged. "... Sounds good." She replied.

Then she watched as the man took his share, shoving them into his pockets, and walked away, and took his huge, threatening bird in the sky with him. Once he was finally gone, and completely out of sight and definitely out of earshot. Ri let out a sigh of relief. She gently massaged the side of her head. ".... That wasn't bad, but wasn't the best either..." She mumbled to herself, as she bent down and took the half of the goods that were... Her's, she guessed. Anyway, seems like it was back to walking. She looked to Sai and Venom who both seemed to be looking at her, Sai's confusion a bit more ascertainable due to the fact that well... Venom's biology wasn't great at conveying much other than aggression and creepiness... And smugness, she supposed. Or maybe the Seviper had trouble with emotions that didn't fall under those categories. Maybe. Anyway.... It was time to go.

"Let's go guys... Maybe we're almost done..." She said quietly, feeling a quiet mood overtaking her mind, as she pulled out her map and compass briefly, poking at them both to figure out which direction she was supposed to be going in... After a minute, she was pretty sure she knew which direction she was supposed to go, and began walking in that direction.... Venom and Sai followed behind as they always did.

With that settled, they'd be free to continue on their journey to find the camp they were looking for, the mountain in the distance starting to come into sight in the horizon. It was still very far off, but at the very least she'd know they were going in generally the right direction. The hills could still hide the sight, depending on whether she traveled at their bases and what directions they were around her, but the mountain would peek out here and there if she looked hard enough. The camp was close to the mountain, which would help her to find it more quickly, in theory.

The hours started to pass after the man left, the group pushing on towards what they would assume is their destination. The hills were getting a bit more steep, the ground rougher and more coarse as they progressed closer to the stone towering high in the sky. Getting views atop the tall hills would be the best strategy, but walking among the small valleys between them would be easier on the group, as ascending and descending hills repeatedly would take a higher toll on them. Whichever way they pushed on, they'd made great, and more importantly uninterrupted, progress.

But as they started to weave through, trying to make their way towards the mountain, sure that this was the right direction, there was... no signs of human life around. Even if Ri got on a high hill, to look around and try to spot the direction she should head, there was no sign of where she needed to go, nothing indicating where Omega could have set up shop. Sure, they may still have a good half-day or more left in their trip, but shouldn't there be something to indicate they were going the right way?

Were they going the right way?

Ri kept walking. As they walked, she was able to see the mountain that Omega's camp was supposedly near the base of. The terrain had become taller hills, and she was stuck weaving in between those tall hills. She might force herself to get up on those hills to verify the direction she was going in.... But Venom and Sai would probably tire so quickly, so remaining in between the hills was the easiest for the group. So, that remained her strategy.

Though.... There was a slight problem. She was beginning to see no signs of their progress, or if they were going the right way. She decided to just try to get up on a hill to get a good look around.... Just once. She asked Venom and Sai to stay behind with a hand gesture, and climbed one of the hills to check. The hill was steep and the ground had grown more unfriendly and rough as she'd presumably gotten closer and closer to her target destination. However, when she reached the top.... She didn't see anything that looked like it would help. Grumbling, she pulled out the map and compass, from where they were jammed in her jacket pockets. She did her best to flatten out the map, and try to make sense of where she was. It wasn't like the map was capable of telling her exactly where she was and where to go, so she had to figure out. It was like a puzzle. A really infuriating puzzle. She used the compass to try and figure out directions. After several minutes of deliberation, she figured out a direction to go in... And hopefully see the mountain again, signs that she was reaching her destination. She ran back down the hill to Venom and Sai, and got them walking again.

.... Well, Ri and Sai were walking. Venom was slithering due to his lack of legs. Anyway, Ri could only hope they weren't going to get hopelessly lost within the mountains and they'd be able to find Omega's Camp soon.

Like many good adventurers before her, centering herself and deciphering a proper path forward was a great start to getting back on track. As she continued to weave through the hills, choosing to conserve energy by not climbing over them but sticking to the crevasses between them, she'd continue making progress towards Onix Peak. Of course, Omega's camp was still going to be another matter, but getting to the mountain was certainly a good place to start figuring out exactly where she would need to go to arrive at her intended destination.

They'd get a few more hours of travel in, relatively peaceful aside from the odd ways forward. Then, the sun's descent in the sky would start to become more and more clear, the sky blues turning into more colorful shades, moving across the warm spectrum of colors as it pushed into the horizon. The shadowing of light made it easy to see the towering dark mountain still a ways off, marking that her path forward was sure to take her towards Onix Peak at the least. Though eventually, she'd need to either set up camp for the night, hoping to find a nice safe spot, or push through the darkness.

Ri's chosen path forward was thankfully one without surprise encounters from more weirdos in the mountains, or from pokemon that inhabited the region. Which was nice. She really just wanted to keep going and not have to deal with whatever might come... Which mostly referred to the fact that pokemon tended to be understandably aggressive. At least, the ones she came across. Though, part of that might be Venom's tendency towards instigation. There were probably a few encounters that were.... Well... Mostly the Seviper's fault since he never quite could restrain himself apparently. She wondered if he'd ever be able to learn a little restraint... Oh, she cared about him. She did he just... Was kind of impulsive. He was kind of worse than Ri sometimes, honestly.

Anyways, after getting a peaceful period of travel in, the sky began to darken slightly, and Ri could see the mountain in the distance. She supposed it was all good for knowing she was probably going in the right general direction. Though, since it was getting dark... She figured she should probably set up camp somewhere... She wasn't sure what spots might be safer than others... So she found a spot she figured was er.... Well, hopefully it wasn't too terrible. She debated not bothering to set up her tent... But sighed instead, and began putting it up anyway.

After the tent was up, and Venom and Sai had crawled inside, she stood near the... "Door"? What do you call exactly, that hole in the tent? She wasn't so sure. Door didn't feel quite right, but it felt close enough. She... Wasn't sure she was going to get much sleep.

That's what she thought, but eventually she did lay down on her back and try to get some sleep, closing her eyes.

@kira

Throughout the night, the woman would find that nothing would disturb them, whether she actually ended up getting any restful sleep or not. The mountains were quiet, much more so than the forest she had likely become accustomed to from living there for so long before travelling this way. Life was more sparse in this terrain, and the peace as the moon shined through the hills, rising high in the sky and attempting to peek through the fabric of her tent. The hours passed, and the sun would rise once more.

As Ri and her group pushed forward, having re-positioned themselves, they'd find themselves making great progress as the tall mountain got closer and closer. And, though it would take many hours, they would eventually see the camp coming up as Onix Peak towered higher than they could imagine above them. The sun was starting to descend in the sky, marking the beginning of evening, as the people of the camp set about their work before the light would go out, Ri being able to arrive in the camp before night fell to get herself set up.
