A shadow is cast wherever she stands

Call Her Ten

And suddenly, everything changed.

A pressure seemed to press against her skull, and everything began to spin like before. She resigned herself to another trip, the world beginning to spin around her. The thief closed her good eye as everything began to blur, fighting of a feeling of motion sickness.

And then suddenly, it was over.

And it was like it had never happened.

She didn't know where she was.

She didn't know what she was doing.

She didn't know who she was.

Her red eye scanned the area around her, taking it in. A grey sky (grey? sky? how did she know that?), warm air, and lush greens. There was an ashen (ash?) path leading between a pair of oddly-shaped rocks.

"Where am I?" her voice echoed around her, proving how alone she was. There was nobody around, but somehow, she didn't mind.

"Who am I?" again, she asked nobody, frowning as she tried to think. For a long moment, she thought, before whimpering as her head throbbed. Alright, no trying to remember.

But a pair of words came to mind. Sebastene. Ten. She frowned, cocking her head. Sebastene... was that... her name? Then Ten... a nickname? Well, at least she had that to go on.

Then there was a soft thud-thud-thud sound. The girl turned to look warily, seeing something approaching. It was small, and reddish, with a rounded nose that protruded from its face. There was a black mark on the top o its head, and a funny look twirly thing behind it on its butt. She frowned, taking it in; it seemed familiar, but for the life of her, she couldn't say why.

The little pig-creature trotted up to her feet, and looked up at her as though forming an opinion. {You are my human? You do not look like much.} it frowned, and Ten tilted her head at the odd grunting sounds it was making.

"Do I know you?" she asked, and the little beast cocked its head, trying to understand what she is saying.

{What are you saying? Why are humans so dumb. They need to learn to talk like humans.} it huffed, before nudging her leg.

"I guess you can't talk to me, then." Ten frowned, disappointed. It had been a long shot, but she'd been hoping that it could help her. She began to walk along the path, the little creature following.

"So you're coming with me, huh?" she asked, and the little pig stared at her blankly.

{Well? Get a move on!} the beast huffed, smoke drifting from its nose, making her jolt.

The girl hurried her pace, following the path, but as she saw the town nearing, alarm bells began to go off in her head. No. If she went there, she'd be in trouble. She didn't know why, but she would!

In a sudden movement, she spun on her heel, and bolted, fleeing towards the forest and away from the town. The pig made a startled sound, before racing after her. {What is wrong with you!? Why did I have to get stuck with the crazy one!} he lamented, lumbering at her heels.

Finally, when she'd entered the forest, and made some distance from the town, she began to slow. The little pig took advantage of this, and put on a burst of speed, running around her on her blind side. {Hold on a second!}

Unable to see the Tepig, her foot caught, and she went flying. She grunted as she collided with the ground, turning to snap at the little beast. It huffed, and dug in her pocket, pulling out a miniature... thing? before insistantly shoving it into her palm.

The white-haired girl frowned at the round thing, tilting her head. "What do you want?" She scowled, fiddling with it. The girl jumped when she pressed down on a button, the round thing growing in size.

{What are you waiting for?} the pig grumbled, watching her fiddle with the ball. {Yes, genius, just like that!} Once it realized she didn't know what he wanted, the pig pressed his nose against the button on the Poke Ball, the girl yelping as he vanished inside.

"What the-!" she was interrupted by a stream of red light forming the little pig again. It looked at her as though to say, easy, right? While she simply gawked at it.

{You wanted to go into the Forest, right? Personally, I think you should go into the town like anyone with a lick of sense would, but I suppose it's up to you.} the pig began trotting along the path into the forest, his human scrambling to catch up.

As the Tepig led his trainer further away from the city and deeper into the woods, the sounds of the wild slowly came back from the fleeing that the newly arrived trainer had caused. Bird calls and the crunching of leaves resounded all around them as the forest settled back into its natural routine. Moving bushes and the falling leaves were all signs that Sebastene was not alone on her sudden walk through the woods. Yet none of the forest's natural inhabitants would make a move to greet them or attack.

But the peaceful air wouldn't last for long, as a panicked scream broke through the natural sounds. The shaking of a tree showed them where it was coming from, and who made the scream in the first place. A small ape was trapped in a sticky web, its face was flushed with a purple tint and its movements were sluggish as it struggled against its bindings. Yet its efforts were in vain, for every string of web it scratched off, its attacker kept adding more and more string.

A shadow is cast wherever she stands

Call Her Ten

The little pig-Pokemon (Ten made a note to find a name for it, as well as find its gender, so she could stop calling it little pig... whatever a pig was) trotted confidently along the path that led deeper into the forest. Sebastene followed it at a slower pace, eye scanning the surrounding trees.

There were bird calls (bird?) echoing around them, and crunching leaves, putting the human on edge. Instinctively, her hand dropped to her pocket, feeling for... something? However, whatever it was wasn't there, and she felt uneasy. What had she been reaching for?

Suddenly, a sharp pain ran through her head, and she gasped, pressing her palm against it. {Human? Did you try to use your brain?} the pig grunted, turning back to walk up to her. The girl grimaced, as a ringing sound rang in her ears, as though a blade had been dropped, and for a moment she could see a knife dropping to the ground.

And as suddenly as it came, it was gone, and the girl shook her head. What had that been? She looked down at the little pig-thing, snuffling at her feet, and shuddered. "I'm okay."

However, before either could do anything further, there was a piercing scream. Both looked up, eyes darting around before landing on a purple... thing that looked caught up in web. The girl frowned, tilting her head as it struggled. This seemed familiar, but she couldn't recall why. She could tell the green thing that was near it wanted it for food, but felt as though she couldn't just stand by and watch.

The little pig turned to continue on their path, but took one look at the expression on her face and sighed. {Can't we just leave them alone?} But the girl stepped forward, approaching the Pokemon, although careful not to get too close. {Why did I even ask?} the little beast sighed, following at her heels, waiting to see what she would do.

Digging in her pockets, the girl pulled out a blue berry. Hopefully this would work; if not, she'd felt other berries in her pocket, although where she'd gotten them escaped her. "Hey!" she raised her voice, hoping to draw the green-things attention. "Wouldn't you rather eat this? It's already prepared, and won't fight you on its way down." Ten crouched, putting the berry in the palm of her hand, and extending her hand, palm up.

{You have got to be kidding me.} the pig groaned under his breath, shaking his head. {That is your grand idea?} This time, he raised his voice, and addressed the Spinarak. {If I were you, I'd take the berry. There's more in her pocket, I can smell it, and it'll be easier than that Aipom.}

The appearance of Ten and her Tepig caused the spider to lose focus for a few moments. The Aipom quickly took advantage of her wavering attention and cut himself free form his bindings. With an excited chirp of its name, it quickly ran away from its trapper into a different tree. Its chirps and howls echoed back to the group, hints of happiness and fear tangle with in it. The spider could only click in anger at the retreating ape.

The Spinarak moved her anger from to ape to the ones that let it get it away in the first place. Her mandibles snapped a few times at them to show them her anger, yet it quickly faded away with the offer of the berry. Hunger gnawed away at her reluctance to accept the offering, but she was suffering from the loss of food that came during winter.

Carefully she clawed down from her web, down the bark of her tree, to a level where she could reach the berry. She had meant to reach forward to grab the berry and take it up to her web, but as soon as she had taken a bite she couldn't control herself. Before she knew it, the berry was gone and her hunger was slightly sated. Yet that Aipom could have fed her for days, and she would most likely would have to move to a different tree now that it had escaped.

Before she would leave, she could at least try to get more food from the human. So with a slow click, her eyes sought the humans in what she hoped was an innocent look.

Ten smiled at the spider-Pokemon when it took notice of her, hoping to keep its attention on her and not on the purple... thing. The monkey-thing took its chance, leaping free of its bindings. It yelped something that sounded like... Aipom? before leaping away through the trees. The spider-thing looked furious, and she attempted to appease it, Po snickering behind her. "Hey, this'll go down easier, won't it? And you won't use as much energy."

The green thing slowly made its way down the tree, abandoning its web, until it was about level with her hand. She stretched her hand out so it could reach better, smiling at it kindly as it began to eat the berry from her hand. Po grumbled under his breath behind her, rolling his eyes. "Can we go now?"

The spider-thing still looked very hungry, eyes going wide and pinchy... things... snapping. "Still hungry? There's more where that came from." Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a greenish berry this time, and stepped back before crouching down, so that the spider would have to come down to her to get it. "See? I'm not going to hurt you."

Po huffed, and rolled his eyes. "Just eat the berry so she'll shut up." he didn't know what she was saying, hadn't yet learned to understand the human language, but her voice was grating on his ears.

The voice , of the pig sent a twitch of irritation throughout her body; she had forgotten about it in her search for more food. But it look her act paid off as the human pulled out a new berry. But as if teasing her, they moved it away from her and got lower to the ground. Before she could get mad, they started to tell her something, offering for her to join them. The pig's comments played more to those thoughts.

Now she had a few options. She could leave right now without the food to escape. Or she could go down and join them. One will leave her alone to survive the winter, but she wouldn't be tied down by the human like others of her kind were. The other will give her a better chance to find food and see spring, yet she would be forced to followed the human and its orders. She really had no choice here, her survival came first before everything.

As she went down the tree to the ground, a small sound filled the air of the forest. Still far away, it was hard to hear or tell if it was a single voice or many. Birds of different sizes filled the air as they ran away from the source. If Ten was paying attention, she would noticed that the brushes were shaking with fanatic movements as shadows moved away. Even the Spinarak, who bypass the berry to climb onto her, was pulling at her to get away.

I give the befriending a 20 to succeed. The Spinarak was mad at Ten for making it lose the Aipom, but Ten did try to make up for it with the berry. Plus with the promise of more food, something that is often lacking in winter, put her in a favorable mood. And the result was.... 1! Wow, looks like this was fate! The Spinarak is now in your control, it will start with 10% loyalty.

Ten took a deep breath as she watched the Pokemon. She desperately wanted it to join her, to join her team. Hopefully she'd have a Pokemon who was a bit more... friendly. Not that she disliked the fire-pig, but so far it (really, she needed to check its gender) hadn't liked her much.

The spider-thing began to make its way down the tree, creepy little legs tapping against the wood. The human smiled, extending her hand to show it the berry. It seemed to be accepting her offer, at least from what she could tell. That, or it just wanted the berry. Either or, she supposed.

Sebastene lifted her head as the fire-pig grunted, looking around. "What was that?!" they yelped in sync, the fire-pig's hearing somewhat more sensitive than the humans. The girl looked around, seeing many, many birds (what was it called... a flock? for some reason that came to mind) flying over head. Something in the bushes was shaking violently, shadows fleeing away.

The little spider had crawled onto her by now, and she fought a shudder at the feel of its creepy little legs. "So I guess you're coming with us, huh?" she asked, feeling it tug against her.

The Tepig, no longer interested by its human, huffed, and began to trot off in the direction of the source of the disturbance. And if its human didn't follow, why would he care? She had the spider thing to watch over her until he got back.

"Whoa, wait! Where are you going!" Ten yelped, hurrying after the fire-pig. "What is wrong with you!?"

The Spinarak squeaked, clutching onto the - her - human's shirt, desperately trying to pull her in the opposite direction. "What are you doing?! I said the other way!" the poison Pokemon groaned, wondering if she'd made the right choice.

As Ten and her party got closer to the source, they discovered that it was not one but three voices overlapping. Just before they could see the source, a new sound reached their ears. If they listened closely, they could make out the sound of hitting and a few whimpers of pain that followed. If they kept walking, they would finally get to see what was happening in the forest.

A small cream colored bunny was on the floor nearest to them, it's small size showing it was quite young. Tears drip from it eyes as it rubbed sand from out of them, the cause of the sand chirping from above it. If Ten follow its line of sight, she would see two different monkeys. One was like the one she help free earlier, the other was smaller, round with tan fur covering it body.

Above them still was one more monkey, which looks similar to the first as well. Yet a few difference are easily spotted, mostly the inclusion of a second tail. The larger one glare down at the two smaller ones it voice lace with anger as it talk. "Come on, we still need find the creature that dare hurt your little sibling!" Without a glance behind, she climbed up the trees to continue her search.

The other two stood around for a few more seconds, the tan Mankey leered down at the crying bunny. The purple Aipom used it tail to toss more sand at it, before leaving to follow its mother with the Mankey behind it. If Ten was feeling lucky, she could try her hand at helping the small bunny, or she could leave now to escape the pack of apes in the area.

Thankfully, it wasn't long before Ten found the source of disturbance. She could make out several voices, although she couldn't make out what they were saying. Were they humans? Or Pokemon? What would humans be doing out here?

Po, meanwhile, simply powered on, trying to see the source of the noises. It wasn't that he cared! No, he was just... curious. What could startle so many Pokemon? And if so, could he make allies with it? Anything would make a better partner than those two! If only it wasn't for this damned pull, he'd be long gone.

Ten scurried after the Tepig, grumbling under her breath. "What is wrong with you!?" she hissed, not wanting to draw the attention of... whatever was ahead of them. The Spinarak was clinging to her shirt, clearly regretting going with them. {Why would you ruin towards the trouble?!} but, of course, Ten couldn't understand her, and Po didn't care.

The Tepig slid to a stop as he saw the Buneary, surrounded by monkey Pokemon. Ten had to skid to a stop to keep from running over the pig Pokemon, nearly knocking Ariadne from her perch. The spider grumbled unhappily, readjusting her grip on the human's clothing.

"What is that?" the human muttered, seeing the bunny-thing surrounded by monkeys. As she watched, the purple monkey, like the one she'd saved earlier, hurled sand into its eyes, making her scowl. The largest of the three, looking not-unlike the young one, vanished into the trees, followed by the two monkeys.

Catching the movement, Ariadne looked up, seeing the small Aipom. {My lunch!} she cried, but a quick movement from Ten kept her from leaping after it.

Ten's heart gave a sad pang at the sight of the little bunny and, once she felt the coast was clear, she approached it slowly, not wanting to startle the poor dear. "Are you alright?" she hummed quietly. Once she was close enough, she would kneel down, pulling out one of the blue Oran berries from her pocket. "Here, would you like one?" she offered, stretched out her hand to offer the Buneary the berry in the palm of her hand.

The wild baby bunny cowered as another, even larger creature approached it- but the kind tone of the human's voice made it brave enough to at least look up from between its paws as it hid its face.

Ten's kindhearted attempt to comfort the Buneary would be short-lived, however. Right as she was pulling out the berry to offer it to the bunny, one of the monkey voices from before cut through the forest, high-pitched and angry. //Eh- what was that!// Apparently, one of the monkeys had heard either Ariadne's outcry or the human's sympathetic murmurings, and after a second of loud rustling in the canopy above, the three monkeys reappeared.

The Mankey was the first to burst out of the leaves, and the first to launch itself blindly once it saw the Spinarak. Of course, the Spinarak was a smaller target and was apparently protected? by the human, so mid-jump the angry tan monkey decided that it'd be best to take out her rage on the human, first. Guilt by association.

The second primate to join in the fray was the larger two-tailed one; luckily for Ten and her associates, the big angry mama monkey hung back for now, choosing to screech accusations at the Spinarak. Something about trying to eat her child. As the mother raged, other small monkey, the one that was the same species as the one the Spinarak had been attempting to make a meal of, jumped to the ground and began his assault by throwing dirt and sand at Ten and the spider that clung to her. Po and the Buneary were mostly ignored for now, the monkey rage focused primarily on Ariadne, with Ten also receiving much of the abuse due to her current status as the spider's transportation.

Seeing the Buneary cautiously look up from its paws, Ten attempted a kind smile, reaching into her pocket to offer a berry to the fluffy Pokemon. Po huffed, and rolled his eyes. Why did she keep offering her supplies to the wild Pokemon? She should eat them, or giving them to him!

Ariadne, Ten, and Po jolted at a horrific, high-pitched sound, head's snapping up only to see the leaves rustling. "Oh-" Ten began, while Po moaned, {SHIT!} The Tepig began to flee backwards, only to skid to a stop when he saw the human frozen, gaze jumping between the Buneary and the rustling leaves. Could she get to it in time? {COME ON YOU STUPID, TWO LEGGED, WHITE FURRED-!}

Po's tirade was cut off by a cream-furred monstrosity leaping from the trees, landing before them. It didn't even take a breath before flinging itself at them, and Ten yelped when she realized it was coming right at her, staggering back.

Next was a much-larger purple Pokemon leaping down, with two odd-looking hands. Thankfully, it hang back from the fray, choosing to shout things Ten couldn't understand, but she had a feeling whatever it was would make her ears burn.

Lastly was the small purple Pokemon, who looked rather similar to the largest. It began to throw dirt and sand at her, and she cringed back away from it, glad that Ariadne was shielded.

She would stagger back, attempting to avoid the cream-colored Pokemon's attack. However, she wasn't quite fast enough, and its claws raked across her chest. Thankfully, most of the damage went to her clothes, tearing some holes in her shirt, although some spots on her chest stung. [b][color=purple]"PO! DO SOMETHING!"
she'd yelp.

{You have GOT to be kidding me.} Po groaned, shaking his head. But he didn't want to think what would happen to the pull if she died, and he feared being stuck by a corpse. So, he charged at the nearest Pokemon, the Mankey and drew back his hoof, attempting to use Sucker Punch on the Mankey.

Dancing back, Ten grimaced. She whistled to catch the Buneary's attention, and patted her leg before gesturing behind her, trying to tell it to hide behind her. What was one more Pokemon to protect, after all? Then, she would grab Ariadne, and face her towards the Pokemon. She aimed her at the Mankey and Aipom, squeezing her torso until the Spinarak released a strand of sticky web at the Aipom, attempting to Constrict it.

That done, she allowed the spider to climb back up her shoulder, taking cover between her shoulder blades. She would fumble in her pocket until she pulled out two Poke Balls, lobbing one at the Mankey and one at the Aipom.

capture attempts
It's a 40% chance for a regular pokeball to catch injured Pokemon (the Mankey), 30% to catch uninjured Pokemon (the Aipom). Unfortunately, both rolls failed! (Rolls were 100 and 33, respectively.) I'm not going to roll for Buneary befriending yet because there's too much chaos and the Buneary isn't up to making any life decisions about whether she wants to spend the rest of her life with Ten, plus... well...

As Ten and her party chose to fight rather than flee, things became hectic really, really quickly.

Po was the first to move, the first to initiate; and so he was the first to land a strike. The Mankey had been preparing to move forward to attack the pig that dared step forward to challenge her; the sucker punch temporarily knocked the wind out of her, and for a long second all she could do was gasp and cover her stomach in the place she had been struck.

Ambipom let out a shout of rage and jumped down, positioning herself in front of her children just in time to take the constrict that the Spinarak loosed. She didn't even react to the weak attack from the much younger Pokemon.

By this point, the Buneary was moving. She had seen Ten's gesture, and regardless, that Ambipom was terrifying and she was more than happy to hide behind someone. Unfortunately, she didn't quite move quick enough.

The mother Ambipom loosed a swift attack; beads of energy flew from her tails toward Ten and her team. The Buneary was struck; luckily, she was mostly hidden by the time the attack hit, so she didn't catch the full brunt. Still, she was already so weak that the addition force and pain caused her body to give out- she fainted, collapsing just behind Ten's foot.

All of this was happening so fast.

The Aipom jumped out from behind his mother, spraying a sand attack at Ten, since after all she was the one physically hiding and defending the bug that had tried to eat his sibling. The Mankey almost simultaneously moved out from behind her mother Ambipom and began to advance on Po, preparing to exact revenge on the pig that had kicked her so strongly in the gut.

Then the pokeballs were thrown. Both balls hit their mark; both younger monkeys were absorbed. The Ambipom screamed and began to focus her mind, shaking out her limbs and relaxing her muscles as she prepared to pursue and destroy the human who dared make her children disappear.

Both of the children, however, escaped their brief captivity. In a rage, the Ambipom grabbed the pokeball that had briefly contained the Aipom with one of her tails, then used the other tail to break the pokeball's hinge and twist the two pieces about, rendering it useless. For her part, the Mankey angrily kicked the pokeball that had contained her, though all that succeeded in doing was returning the pokeball to Ten's side of the battlefield, where she would easily be able to retrieve the empty ball.

Then the Mankey dashed forward, pursing the Tepig that had hurt it so, attempting to bring both her fists down on the pig's spine. She wanted to make him hurt real bad.

The Ambipom was no longer content to let her children to the fighting. Not now that the human and the creatures at her beck and call were fighting back. Even as the Mankey moved to attack, the Ambipom began to advance on Ten, her boosted speed and limbered muscles about to be put to work.

Po barreled forward, his left hoof glowing as he began to prepare his attack. Thankfully the Mankey either hadn't been expecting it, or hadn't seen him, and the attack landed harshly against its stomach. It seemed to knock the wind from the Mankey, who bent double and began to gasp. He had to step back to catch his breath, after having use an extensive attack.

Ten and Po flinched, while Ariadne flailed her legs, at the awful sound made by the Ambipom. Thankfully, the constrict attack was already in the air, striking the Ambipom. Although, it was almost as though it hadn't been hit at all, simply launching little beads of energy towards Ten and her Pokemon. The Buneary, whom had been dashing towards her, went limp, tumbling agaisnt her leg. Thankfully, it seemed, the Buneary had been close enough to duck behind her leg.

Ten hissed, staggering back as the attack slashed through her clothing. "Fucking OW!" she hissed, only to yelp as sand was flung into her face. The Mankey, however, began to charge towards Po who, thankfully, had managed to leap out of the way of the Swift in time.

Ten prayed to... whoever, as the Pokemon disappeared into the Poke Balls. However, only moments later, they reappeared. The Ambipom destroyed one of the Poke Balls, promping a horrified "No!" from Ten. However, the little cream monkey lobbed her Poke Ball back to her.

Po cried out in pain as he was struck by the Mankey's attack, rolling head over curly tail. As soon as Ten saw how injured Po was, panting for breath and just finishing an attack, she would fumble for his Poke Ball, hurriedly returning the Tepig to his Poke Ball.

Ten yelped as she saw the Ambipom began to charge her way, stooping down to scoop up the Buneary before bolting in the opposite direction at full speed, yelping "Fuck fuck fuck fuck," under her breath, before sprinting towards Ashfield, going quiet so as not to lure the Pokemon to her.

@Blackbird

Though the Ambipom had gotten a head start and was limbered up, Ten had two distinct advantages over the raging monkey: first, her upright human body was designed for running on the ground; and second, she only had to run a short distance toward the city of Ashfield and she would be safe.

The wild monkey quickly realized that she wouldn't keep up well if she tried to run along the ground, so she ascended up into the treetops, where her speed and mobility were both increased. Still, the monkey had lost precious time, though she was beginning to catch up...

But Ten broke out of the forest and reached the outskirts of Ashfield before the Ambipom could catch up and get into striking range. Though there were no city walls to protect her, there were no trees for the Ambipom to travel in. Neither was the mother monkey willing to lead her children, who were following along just behind her, into the hive of humans. So she screeched out an angry screech from the trees, but did not continue to pursue Ten into the city.

Ten, Po, Ariadne, and the unconscious Buneary were safe.

challenge!
You have been challenged! The challenge is as follows: write a dev to detail the befriending of the currently fainted Buneary, using the history and personality described here.

Female Buneary, level 2, klutz ability, fire punch and sky uppercut egg moves. She is a toddler recently became lost and separated from her father, a Combusken. Her mother, Lopunny, either died or left before Buneary hatched. Buneary is a very fearful baby and is prone to fits of crying when she is startled, frightened, or when she falls (as her ability suggests, she is a clumsy baby). She loves things that are warm, because they remind her of her father. She doesn't yet know how to fight and she isn't naturally aggressive. She is a sweetheart once she gets over her cautious and fearful nature, but it might take a bit of effort.

Hopefully, with the right guidance, she can grow into an strong and independent bunny who won't need to cower in fear if wild monkeys harass her! Also, including an IC reason as to why the bunny hasn't been with Ten in the other threads you've completed that technically take place after this thread would probably be advisable when writing this dev. Have fun completing this challenge, and tag me in the mod request when it is finished~

I wasn't sure if an oran was what was fed to Ariadne or not. Let me know if I guessed wrong. xD But, yay, Ten escaped angry monkeys and is alive and made a friend or two~ I'll go edit these changes into Ten's index (and let me know if I missed anything)!

p.s. Po levels up and learns Ember!
