up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

Hearing about the infestation of rodents in some of the shops in the city, Victor figured it would be a good chance to earn some tokens. He often did odd jobs around town anyway and it was always good to help someone out. His pokemon also had a chance to get some training in. The rodents would likely be aggressive as they wouldn’t want anything to get in the way of missing out on their free food.

Whatever he was facing he didn’t want to have to kill any of the rodents. The job was just to clear out the infestation. If he could just scare the pokemon off or beat them into submission then that’s all he’d do. Killing was a last resort as he didn’t want to have to put that kind of burden on his younger pokemon.

Victor found himself standing outside of a food store that often carried baked goods and fruits. The trainer wanted to observe the outside before going in to fight off the rodents. He wanted to know how they were getting in and he could at least prevent anymore from finding their way in, then he could handle what was indoors. He let out Ghost was who was sniffing around the perimeter of the shop.

On his shoulders were Pixie and Wisp. The two grass types were hoping they wouldn’t have to face anything tough but if it came down to it, the budew was willing to fight the pests. Pixie however would just stay back and just try to stay alive. Nereid was resting in the backpack, poking her face out to see what was happening. She was eager to get into a battle and show Victor that she could handle herself like the others did.

He held Chespin in his arms to keep the baby from charging for any pests. The little rodent was too friendly and would happily run up to any pokemon who approached. The last thing Victor needed was his new baby eaten by a rattata or zigzagoon. With his team ready to investigate the infestation Victor was prepared for whatever they had to face. He only hoped they were successful.

In the back of the shop, Ghost found a hole in the wall. From the looks of it the rodents chewed their way through the wood and found themselves a gold mine. Victor patted the fox on the head and then took a peek inside. It was dark and quiet so the trainer wasn’t able to tell if anything was inside at the moment. The shop owner was pretty sure but Victor wasn’t ready to just go inside yet.

“Okay, Ghost, I’m going to need you to guard this hole,” he said to the vulpix. She turned her head to the side. She knew he wanted her to defend something she wasn’t sure what. Victor pointed to the hole, to try to give her an idea of what she was doing. He gave her the command for protection.

He wanted her to protect this hole? Perhaps he wanted her to block the hole and make sure nothing got in or out? That would make more sense. The fox nodded her head and stood guard. She wouldn’t let a single rodent get by her. She barked at the trainer to showed she understood. Victor nodded his head at her and smiled. “Good girl.”

Taking the rest of his pokemon, Victor came around the front of the shop. The shopkeeper was standing by the entrance looking furious with his long bristly mustache that covered his top lip. When he spoke it wiggled lightly but never revealed his mouth. “Get those damn, rats out of my stock!” he demanded. “You got it, sir,” Victor replied sarcastically. What did the old man think he was doing? “Shut this door behind me,” he told the old man.

The man nodded his head in agreement and unlocked the shop door. As Victor entered, his pokemon all huddled with him looked nervous. There was cracks of light that peeked through the boarded up windows. It wasn’t much but it was enough for Victor to see his way around. It was the stockroom that was the darkest. Only a glimpse of light shined through the hole in the wall where Ghost was standing.

The door shut behind the trainer as he heard a click that implied the man locked him in. “Hey, I need this door open if this is going to work!” Victor shouted as he bagged on the door.

“Alright, alright, son!” the man shouted back. Victor kicked the door in anger. He wasn’t expecting to be locked in but the shopkeeper eventually opened up. If it turned out he couldn’t handle this then he’d at least be able to escape this way. He was sure his pokemon would succeed.

Still confused as to why it was so quiet in the shop, Victor decided it was time to start looking around. He could see things knocked over and only crumbs left over on the shelves. It that wasn’t bad enough, it appeared that the rodents were leaving behind a smelly surprise for the man who gifted them with all his food.

Stepping forward, Victor could have sworn that he saw something zip behind the counter. All his pokemon flinched at the same time. This was probably creepier than it needed to be and he should just honestly get to work. Victor set down his backpack so that Nereid could hop out. She would help out here with her camouflaging. Especially since it was dark in here, she could hide well.

Kneeling down in front of the coral and smiled. “Okay girl, I need you to disappear,” he said using his hands to hide his face. It was like he was playing peek-a-boo with her. The corsola couldn’t help but giggle as he disappeared and reappeared. Where the hell did he go? She had no idea but she could play this game too. Nereid did her best to blend in to her surroundings and hid herself. Sure a rodent could probably sniff her out but if it was distracted then she could flank them.

Next he set down Pixie who would be the bait. "You’re up, Pixie,” the trainer said patting the berry on her head. She looked up at him nervously.

“What did he say?” the bounsweet squealed.

Wisp giggled from atop Victor’s shoulders. The budew hopped off and landed next to her. “He wants you to help out!”

“B-but, I don’t know what to do!” she cried.

“Don’t worry, I’ll stay by your side. You just remain calm,” the seedling reassured her.

Victor wanted to get someone on the right, so he set the chespin down, so that he could use his vines to grip any pokemon that charged in this direction. Gnome wasn’t sure what he was doing but it was dark in here and he didn’t like it. Though if they were attacked, he surely try to protect his friends. With everyone in position, Victor just needed someone to guide him in the dark. Reaching into his bag, he pulled out Bre’r and released the buneary into the shop.

Bursting from the light, the rabbit did not seem amused to be in the dark. It wasn’t that he couldn’t see, he just didn’t like not knowing what was going on. Looking up at Victor, he wondered what he was supposed to be doing. There didn’t appear to be anyone to fight and he definitely wasn’t be fed. So what was the deal? “Anyone know why I’m here right now?” the buneary groaned.

Wisp quietly shushed the rabbit. “We’re setting a trap.”

Rolling his eyes, the buneary looked back at his trainer. “What am I supposed to be doing?”

It wasn’t that Victor understood the rabbit but he was going to tell him what to do anyway. “Hey buddy, I need you to come with me,” he said gesturing for the buneary to follow. Victor went on ahead to check out the stockroom where it was the darkest. Bre’r hopped alongside him using his foresight to spot anything that might pop out at them.

As Victor and Bre’r made their way into the stock room, they could see Ghost’s nose sniffing through the hole in the wall. The rabbit kept his gaze on their surroundings. There were lots of shelves and merchandise placed or knocked over on them. Some damaged goods on the ground and lots of dust that collected back here. “Geez, these guys didn’t waste anything, did they?” Victor muttered as he looked around.

Suddenly the duo flinched as they heard something move quickly across the shelves. Both looked in the direction of the sound and the buneary spotted a fluffy brown and white rodent curled up on a top shelf. The raccoon looked at them with a fearful stare in her eyes. She was scared of the human and his pokemon but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try to frighten them back.

The zigzagoon hissed at Bre’r as she was noticed. Victor narrowed his eyes at the creature, not really worried about their capability in being able to defeat it. “Is that the only one?” Victor asked quietly. Not that he was literally asking the rabbit but it helped to say his thoughts out loud sometimes. It made him feel less crazy when his pokemon were around to hear him.

The rabbit twitched his ears, unsure of what the human wanted him to do. Was he supposed to attack the zigzagoon(lv5.w/rock climb) or just spot it? Victor didn’t exactly have a weapon or anything so Bre’r would have to do something. If it turned out there was just one pokemon in here to deal with then his back up plan would not be necessary.

“Alright, Bre’r use pound!” he called out. The buneary sighed before moving but he knew what that command meant. Bouncing forward toward the raccoon, he was prepared to attack and chase it out of the shop. He wanted to make this quick so that he could go find some place to relax and groom his fur. As his ear popped the fluffy creature in the face, it shrieked in pain.

The zigzagoon made a disturbing cry as Victor and Bre’r could swear they saw shadows moving along the shelves. Suddenly the other rodents were all crowded around the zigzagoon. Another two like it. One looking about the same age and one being younger. There were also two rattata that popped up from behind a barrel of grain. The screaming zigzagoon glared at Bre’r directly, ignoring the human who stood there.

“You made a big mistake. My pack will destroy you and take all your food for our own!” she declared. This zigzagoon appearing to be the fattest of the bunch lunged toward Bre’r with her pack following behind her. Victor and Bre’r looked in a panic as they were prepared to run.

The buneary hopped on ahead of Victor as he made his way to exit the stockroom. Victor followed behind, calling out to his other pokemon, “They’re coming!” Immediately Victor darted for the door, but not to escape but to instead stand by his other pokemon who were unaware of what had happened in the other room. They all looked concerned as he and Bre’r fled the stockroom. Bre’r hopped up onto the shop counter to help him get the jump on the zigzagoon.

The other pokemon rushed out of the room, unaware of the trap laid out for them by Victor and his team and that Bre’r was up on the counter. Charging through the doorway, they spotted the pokemon before them and the human standing with them. The zigzagoon leader stood behind her pack preparing to give orders. “Go for the human!” she commanded.

Running out ahead at top speed was the older of the rattata(lv4). Despite his leader’s orders, he smelled something sweet. It was some kind of fruit. Yeah they had their fill on food here but this particular berry was intoxicating. He spotted the bounsweet by the door where Victor was standing. He could take out the human and get that bounsweet for himself. Charging for her with his quick attack, he prepared to strike. But before he could make contact with Pixie, something grabbed his tail from behind.

“What?!” he cried, as he felt it difficult to move. The rattata pulled and scraped at the ground, trying to dash forward but something had him in its grasp.

Behind him was Gnome. The chespin was gripping tightly to the tail of his rodent with his vine whip. The rattata tried to shake lose by using his tail whip but the vines wouldn’t give. He reached behind him to chew into the vines and immediately the chespin let go. He didn’t want his vines to be eaten. Feeling himself free, the rattata continued his pursuit of the bounsweet. The berry rolled out of the way, avoiding the quick attack.

Catching himself quickly, it rushed back in to attempt a tackle. Before landing a blow, it was budged in the side by an unknown source. Turning to face the ambush, the rattata spotted the budew. Wisp fired off a stun spore to paralyze the rattata so that he could stop the rodent without killing it.

Feeling a panic, the bounsweet was so nervous that she almost died. Looking over to Wisp with relief she smiled. “Thank you so much, Wisp!” she called to him.

Wisp winked at her, returning the smile to the bounsweet. “I told you I wouldn’t let anything happen to you.”

The bounsweet could feel her heart racing as the budew spoke to her. He was a good friend and he had her back ever since she joined these companions. Watching the two plants converse, Gnome rolled his eyes. He helped too and no one was thanking him. It really didn’t matter he figured since there were other targets to focus on. With the rodent paralyzed mostly, Wisp went on ahead to help face the rest of the rodents. Gnome stayed by the door with Pixie to stay on the defensive.

While chaos broke out in the shop and the rodents were battling with Victor’s team, the trainer watched ready to intervene if things were going badly. One of the rattata’s were paralyzed by Wisp’s spore, so they had one less to deal with. Victor grabbed the rat by the tail and tossed him out the shop. He felt bad doing this but he couldn’t keep an eye on the thing and focus on the battle in front of him.

Meanwhile, with the pokemon, Gnome had been dashing toward the youngest of the zigzagoon(lv.2). He saw the baby raccoon attempting to sneak an attack on Wisp who was distracted while aiming to take down his own opponent. The chespin lashed out his whips and grabbed the zigzagoon by the tail. This seemed to be an effective method so far. He retracted the vines back and slammed the raccoon into a wall.

Wisp looked back noticing the Gnome had saved him from a sneak attack. The seedling nodded as a sign of appreciation and turned back to fight this male zigzagoon(lv.5). He was dashing at Wisp, prepared to tackle. The budew’s distraction made it difficult for him to react in time and he was hit direction, rolling backward. Wisp got back onto his feet immediately and used absorb on the raccoon. The zigzagoon could feel his energy being sapped and cringed at the strange feeling. He rushed forward, not really having many attacks in his movepool to harm this plant. Wisp rolled out of the way, feeling the fur of the raccoon brush past against him as the tackle missed.

Gnome continued trying to handle this young zigzagoon(lv.2) since Wisp seemed to be handling himself just fine. As the baby raccoon tried to retaliate with a tackle. The chespin curled into a ball, hoping to defend against the attack as much as he could. The zigzagoon rammed into him, sending Gnome rolling backward. It wasn’t enough to keep him down, even if it kind of hurt. Rolling out of his curl, the grass type used his vines to smack the zigzagoon. Not being able to take any more hits, he darted for the doorway.

Pixie assumed it was coming her so she closed her eyes and waited for someone to help her. The zigzagoon hopped over the bounsweet and made his way outside. He saw that his packmate was lying paralyzed. He did his best to help it up and make a break for it.

At the same time of this fight, Wisp went on to deal with his own opponent who was not backing down. Even if its energy was being drained, it would put all its strength into this fight. They had claimed this place as their own and they were going to keep it. The zigzagoon(lv.5) growled at the budew, hoping to put some fear into him. Wisp had flinched but wasn’t ready to back down. The plant flexed his body, to give him the strength he needed to finish this battle. Leaping forward he used absorb once more, to sap the energy from the raccoon. He wasn’t sure he could keep doing this but his final effort would have to do.

Feeling the effects of the health drain, the zigzagoon was ready to fall over but not until he dashed in for one more hit. The raccoon made his way toward Wisp for one more tackle before it gave in. The weak budew watched as the brown rodent came for him. Before he could make any effort to defend himself, the zigzagoon was tackled from the side. Revealing herself from her camouflage, Nereid dove in to protect Wisp. “Got you, brother!” she called out. Wisp gave her a smile and nodded.

The zigzagoon lied unconscious and unable to battle any further.

Seeing that Wisp was pretty drained from the fight, he fired the beam from his pokeball at the budew. Returning him to the ball, Victor kept an eye on the rest of the fighting. Everyone seemed to be doing okay but was likely taking a bit more damage that he originally thought. Still things were going alright as his team seemed to be handling the rodents.

While everyone else was battling, the zigzagoon(lv.5 w/rock climb) who appeared to be the pack leader was facing off against Bre’r. The rabbit was able to get the drop on her as he bounced from off the counter and dropped down with a power-up punch. The raccoon took the hit but wasn’t going to let that stop her. She may have been the biggest but she was pretty fast on her feet.

Recovering from the punch quickly, she charged in for a tackle, slamming the buneary into the counter’s side. Frustrated that his fur got messed up, the rabbit lunged ahead to pound the raccoon in the face. The rabbit was thrown off, however by a sneak attack to his side. Catching herself, he quickly looked to see what had hit him. Seeing a purple rodent standing next to the zigzagoon leader, he worried that he would have to fight both of them.

Defending her leader, the rattata(lv. 3) let out a shrilling scream that pierced the Bre’r’s ears. It was painful, especially when his hearing was so strong. The buneary pressed his paws against his ears to shelter himself from the sound. The pack leader saw this as an opportunity to strike. She climbed up the counter and jumped off, aiming to land on the buneary. This was as close as she was going to get to doing a rock climb. Looking up, Bre’r spotted the zigzagoon coming for him but did not move out of the way in time. He rolled was hit directly.

The rabbit was struggling and it felt like he was going down here. Just when the young rattata was about to go in for an attack, Nereid sneaked behind the rodent and tackled her. The branches that protruded from the corsola jabbed into the rattata’s side and knocked her over. Hearing her pack mate hurt, the zigzagoon looked back to see that the purple rodent had been hurt. She decided to smack away the corsola with a tackle. Nereid fell over, struggling to get herself back up.

Bre’r hopped forward to help the coral. He was angry from having taken so much damage and this raccoon was attacking his ally. The frustration had built up to the point he wasn’t even trying to strategize any more. The buneary let out a barrage of punches using his ears letting his anger out on the pack leader.

Noticing that half her pack had either fled or was knocked out, the zigzagoon decided it may be a good idea to flee. She dashed forward to to run out through the door but she spotted the human and the bounsweet blocking the path. She was just going to have to rush past them if she was going to escape. Pixie watched nervously as she saw the fluffy raccoon coming her way. She expected it to start coming for her. This thing was going to try to eat her. As the zigzagoon drew closer, she closed her eyes and rolled forward to defend herself with a feint attack.

The pack leader was already weak and taking this final hit was enough to knock her down. She fell to her side, having no strength to march forward. Pixie shook in place, not knowing what to do now. With all the pokemon down or out, Victor’s team began to huddle up. He bent down to pick up bounsweet and held her in his arms before resting her in his backpack.

“Don’t worry girl, it’s over,” he said reassuringly. “You all did good.” Gnome fell back onto his butt from exhaustion. He had used up all his energy and wanted to rest. Victor took out his ball and returned the baby. He had done a lot more than what was expected of him and he did good. “You deserve a rest, buddy.”

Bre’r was over by Nereid, helping her up straight. The corsola smiled at the buneary, happy to be off her side. The two made their way to Victor where they could be make their way out of this shop. Bre’r was returned to his ball and Nereid was picked up to be held in his arms. Victor whistled for Ghost to come to him. She kept an eye on the back and nothing seemed to go in or out. She didn’t even know what happened inside the shop but she was glad it was over.

Victor walked over to the owner with his pokemon either beat up or returned. Ghost stood at his side having not seen a lick of battle. “We’re all done here,” the trainer told the man.

The man looked furious that his shop was wrecked even more than it was before and there were pokemon bodies lying on his floor but the trainer did his job and he deserved his reward at least. “Here you go,” the man said giving him the tokens. The shop owner took a step inside. “What am I supposed to do with this mess?” he shouted to Victor.

The trainer was already walking away with his pokemon. “Sorry, but we don’t do clean up.”
