Nox
Despite a near daily search, Nox had no yet found anything he could consider a permanent job. He'd done a few things here or there, like delivering messages or goods, but he didn't feel like 'delivery boy' was a job he wanted to have for very long. In the short term, running a few errands here and there would earn him enough tokens to get by. But he definitely wanted something more to do with his time, especially when he was hoping to travel somewhere closer to water for Azura's sake. He didn't want too many people to start relying on him when he didn't plan on staying in Ashfield. He was only doing the few jobs he could find so far to earn enough tokens to be able to buy the supplies he'd need to survive a journey to a new place.

Of course, when he'd heard that Dentelle was seeking a group to escort a supply wagon to Omega's Camp, he'd decided he would help out. He knew his knack for finding paths and remembering them would come in handy, especially since he'd traveled to that same camp once before. So he'd made his way to Dentelle's lab and told her he'd be glad to escort the cart of supplies. "Good, good. If you're planning to head back this way could you see about getting some manner of report from Omega? I'd dearly love to hear about what he's been up to since we last talked." She'd told him before shooing him away to get acquainted with the merchants that had been hired to carry supplies from Ashfield to the mountains where Omega's camp was.

They'd spent an additional few days making sure everything was accounted for and packed correctly so that the crates of supplies meant for Omega wouldn't shift or fall out of the wagon as they traveled. They'd also waited on anyone else to show up who was planning to escort the cart so that everyone could be at least a little familiar with one another and the various pokemon they were all traveling with. Nox was, admittedly, a little nervous at being tasked with protecting the merchants and their cart. He'd made the journey once before but never as an escort. But now that he'd agreed to do it, he wasn't going to back out now. So with the wagon packed and their supplies accounted for, the little caravan set out on the trek to Omega's camp.

Nox
The morning of their departure dawned grey and dreary, dark clouds gathering overhead and a rumble of thunder threatening a storm on the horizon. Aside from himself, there were three others in the group that were traveling to Omega's Camp. Sabrina, the merchant whose cart had been hired to carry the supplies, as well as an older man by the name of Gavin and a younger girl called Cammie. Gavin and Cammie were on their way to Crater, seeking the safety promised by the city's stone walls and ranks of Peace Officers. Gavin spoke of being provided housing and food in exchange for the work that he would do. It sounded almost too good to be true to Nox but if that was the life Gavin was going to choose for himself and the young girl he'd taken in, then who was Nox to stop him?

The supply cart was hitched to a strong young Blitzle owned by Sabrina and Gavin had his own Sawsbuck pulling the wagon that carried he and Cammie's belongings as well as the travel rations, tents and other supplies for the entire group. Gavin had halfheartedly asked if they could delay until the weather cleared up but Nox pointed out that they had no idea when that might be and they didn't want to suffer too many delays. Rainstorms in the forest were unpredictable and who even knew when the rain might start or stop. As long as they weather would let them travel, they should travel. Gavin's cart was covered so he and Cammie could remain dry if it did begin to rain, plus Sabrina's Blitzle apparently had a natural ability to safely draw in lightning so they didn't worry about that.

Gavin agreed to get under way as soon as they were ready and the group set out along the well traveled path that would lead them to Crater City. The rain began shortly after the left Ashfield behind, starting out as a light drizzle and growing steadily stronger with every step. The carts sloshed through puddles as the Bilztle and Sawsbuck continued determinedly on. Gavin and Cammie retreated into the cover of their wagon after Gavin tied the Sawsbuck's lead rope to the smaller supply cart so that the creature wouldn't stop or stray off the path. Nox wrapped the traveling cloak Kyrie had given him more tightly around his shoulders, pulling the hood up to keep the rain off his face as much as he could. It worked for a time but eventually his cloak and clothing were soaked through and he was almost wishing he had agreed to wait out the weather back in Ashfield. But he had urged them to press on and he would not turn back now.

It was still raining when they stopped for a time to allow the pokemon to rest and eat something themselves. The group huddled unhappily in the back of Gavin and Cammie's wagon as they watched the rain fall outside. Nox had opted to let Azura out to enjoy the rain while they rested and Sabrina had, unexpectedly, let a pokemon of hers out as well. "This is Cade. He's an Oshawott, a water type like your Popplio." She'd explained matter-of-factly when Nox had asked. They lingered a bit longer, letting Azura and Cade splash and play in the hopes that the rain might let up some. When it didn't appear that the weather was going to get any better, Nox recalled Azura and they pressed on. Cade, being more suited to traveling over land, scampered alongside Sabrina as they traveled, frolicking in the puddles and harassing the Blitzle who more or less ignored his antics.

As the sky continued to darken and the weather grew worse, they discussed where to set up camp for the night. Once darkness truly fell, it would be too dangerous to continue in the storm. Sabrina mentioned a clearing that she often used when she traveled to and from Ashfield and suggested they camp there, though she noted that they might not reach it before dark. Nox and Gavin agreed that they should try and get there since they knew there would be enough space to set up a camp. So the Bliztle and Sawbuck were urged forward in the hopes of reaching the clearing. They reached the clearing shortly after darkness had fallen around them and they hurried to set up camp in the dim light let off by the Blitzle and the flashes of lightning overhead. They ate a cold dinner because they could not make a fire with which to cook and assigned a rotation for who would keep watch through the night. Sabrina was first on the rotation and huddled in the shelter of Gavin's wagon with her Blitzle and Oshawott while the rest of them turned in for the night.

Sabrina roused Nox for his turn at keeping watch and he took her place beside the wagons. With everyone else asleep, Nox was tempted to try and spend some time bonding with Angel but the Poochyena probably wouldn't enjoy the rain. So instead, he let Azura out of her pokeball. The Popplio didn't mind the rain at all and was happy to splash and play around in the puddles, despite the wind and lightning. When she was bored with that, she came over to rest her head in Nox's lap where she dozed off. "Have a good sleep for now, Azura. The rain kept all the wild pokemon and other dangerous things in their dens but tomorrow is another day." Nox told her, patting the Popplio's head as she slept. He left her out of her ball until it was time to rouse Gavin for the last watch. Once Gavin was settled in to make sure nothing attacked them for the last part of the night, Nox returned to his tent to try and catch a few more hours of sleep. They would be rising early to get a head start and make up for some of the time they lost because of the storm today. With any luck, the storm would blow itself out by morning and their travel the next day would be easier and more comfortable.

Nox
Dawn came and with it came the end to the storm that had drenched them the previous day. Everything was soaked and the well worn path they had been following was muddy and slick but the sun would dry the road and them as they traveled. They grabbed a quick breakfast and started packing up camp. Once they had everything stored away, they set out once more, hoping to make better time once the ground had dried and they could travel faster without having to worry about the carts or their pokemon slipping in the mud.

Their morning travel was damp and uncomfortable; but as the sun rose, shining it's warm light through the canopy of leaves and branches, everything began to dry out and the mood of their little caravan brightened. Cammie chattered incessantly about everything. The pokemon she caught sight of in the trees, the trees themselves, that flower that was so pretty, how yummy those berries looked and other such mundane nonsense that young children found fascinating. Nox couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm.

The morning and early afternoon seemed to pass quickly and before long Cammie was complaining that she was hungry. Their rushed, cold breakfast had not been quite sufficient enough to allow them to travel through the day. And with the sun high and hot in the sky, a small break to allow the pokemon to rest and for them to get something to eat wouldn't be a bad idea. They pulled their carts to the side of the road and while Sabrina and Gavin unhitched their pokemon from the carts, Nox and Cammie set out to see if they could find any berries or other edible things to bring back to the others. Cammie spotted a small berry tree, its branches heavy with ripe fruits, and skipped over to pick some. Nox let her go, moving to inspect an odd marking on another tree nearby. The marking was of an irregular shape, black like it had been burned, and had several scratches crossing through it. Nox was still studying the marking when Cammie let out a small shriek and began crying. Immediately Nox turned to her and spotted a red and yellow colored creature swinging from a branch above the girl's head. It had some sort of rock in it's paw and it was hooting and howling at the girl below.

Nox immediately reached for Azura's pokeball and released her as he moved closer to Cammie. "Azura, chase that thing off." The Popplio glared up at the primate and aimed a Water Gun at it. Her attack didn't reach quite far enough but it served its purpose, as soon as the creature realized it was facing a water type it dropped the rock it had in its hand and retreated, swinging away through the branches. The Popplio kept an eye on the trees in case the creature came back while Nox comforted Cammie and made sure she wasn't hurt. Through her tears, she managed to explain that they creature had appeared as she reached for the berries and thrown something at her. It hadn't hit but it had startled her and the fact that it was howling at her like it might attack had scared her.

Once Cammie had calmed down, she and Nox gathered up enough berries for everyone and headed back to the carts. Cammie, apparently over her initial fright, happily relayed the tale of how she had been attacked and how Azura (not Nox) had saved her to Gavin. Nox only rolled his eyes and shook his head, letting Azura soak up the praise and attention Cammie was lavishing on her. They ate a quick lunch and got ready to get back underway, unaware that they were being watched.

As they got back underway, their sneaky observer managed to stowaway in the back of Gavin and Cammie's wagon. These humans had stolen his food and he was going to steal it back! The only problem was that they had eaten everything they'd taken from him. So he had to steal something else. At least humans had interesting food....but how did he get it? He had to be careful or the humans would see him and and chase him off before he got anything. He sniffed at packages and bundles, trying to track down the scent of food until he'd found one that seemed promising. It took him a moment to figure out how to get into the bundle but once he did he found all manner of strange food. It didn't look like anything he'd seen before but it smelled delicious. He took a tentative bite, unsure if the food would be as good as it smelled. As it turned out, the food was absolutely delicious! The gluttonous little primate wasted no time in devouring the entire supply pack worth of food. He considered trying to track down another but his round little belly was so full he could barely bring himself to move. Content for the time being, he allowed the motion of the wagon to lull him into sleep.

Nox
A screech woke the Pansear some time later and he bolted upright, hooting in alarm. In his half asleep state, he couldn't remember where he was and panicked at the sight of some manner of cloth that enclosed him int a small space. Equally as terrifying was the sigh of humans peeking at him from the only openings he could see to escape from. He hunkered down and shivered in terror. "Oh...he looks scared. I didn't mean to scare him. It just surprised me when I saw him in there. Nox do something. Make him not scared." The smallest human made noises he didn't understand, looking up at the male that had scared him off with that water type pokemon before. It was all coming back now, these humans had stolen berries from his favorite bush and eaten them. He'd come to take some of their food and fallen asleep in their strange mobile den. But now he'd been discovered and...who knew what these humans would do. "It looks like it got into one of the supply packs. Good thing we had extra or else one of use would be going hungry before long." Another male human spoke up from behind him and the Pansear pressed himself into a corner, ook'ing his distress at being surrounded.

Nox could see that the primate was afraid but they were also quite a long ways from where they'd first seen it. It was possible that it could get home on its own if they left it be. But what if it couldn't? "Alright Cammie, go with her dad to help gather wood for our dinner fire okay? I think seeing so many people around is what's scaring him. If we leave him alone he might just go back to his home." Cammie pouted at him but then glanced at the primate who was trying his best to hide among their supplies. Sabrina was watching from a distance, having heard the girl scream but not getting involved as the two men seemed to have things covered. As gavin and Camme moved off to gather up wood for the fire, Sabrina went back to tending to her pokemon to ensure that the Blitzle was still well enough to pull the wagon full of supplies for Omega.

That left Nox with the pokemon. Now that there was only one human, the Pansear felt a little less terrified but he knew this one had a water type and that was incredibly dangerous. It didn't seem like it was going to attack him but he couldn't be sure. Humans were tricky, dangerous. he couldn't trust them. Or...could he? They'd had plenty of chances to harm him or chase him off. But this one had sent the other humans away. It would have been easy to just call out that water type and be done with it. But he hadn't. Was this...like some sort of human troop? It was a pretty small one if so. And which one was the leader? Pansear concluded that it must be the one still there, watching him. A leader would watch any threat to keep his troop safe right? Right. So this human with the water type was the leader. The female was small, young perhaps. And the other male had grey in his hair so he was probably older, maybe the former leader who had let the younger male take over. Yes, that made sense.

That didn't make him feel and less wary, of course. He was technically trespassing on their territory and had stolen food from their troop. But they had stolen from him first. It was only fair. But he'd hoped to try and get away before they found him. He should never have fallen asleep. He should have taken the food and run. But now he was trapped and not sure what to do. This troop could kill him for trespassing on their turf and he was all alone. His own troop had abandoned him a long time ago. "Come on out. You're safe now." The human spoke, though the Pansear had no idea what he was saying. He didn't seem angry or hostile, however, so maybe he was okay. He edged forward, surprised to see the human back up. When the Pansear took a few more hesitant steps forward, the human took a few back. Was...was the human afraid? He didn't look afraid. So why was he backing up? Eventually the Pansear made it to the opening and stopped, realizing that the human had stopped backing up at some point. He was close, but not too close.

With a soft oof, the Pansear dropped from the wagon and stood on the ground. This part of the forest was unfamiliar. And he had no idea how to get back home. He gave a small hoot of distress and huddled miserably on the ground. No more berries, no more chances to meet up with his own troop and rejoin them...he was all alone and he was going to die in this scary, strange land. "You can go, you know." The human made more sounds and motioned toward the trees with his hands. Though the sounds were gibberish, the motion meant one thing: he was free to leave. He looked at the trees and sniffed the air but there was nothing familiar about this place. Rather than run off to the trees, he crawled under the wagon and crouched there, wrapping his arms around himself for what little comfort he could manage.

Nox frowned at the pokemon's behavior but decided it would be best to leave it alone for the time being. Gavin and Cammie were returning and he held up a finger to show that Cammie should be as quiet as possible as she dashed toward him. She leaned in to whisper at him."Is he still in the wagon? Why didn't he leave? I thought he would leave if we left him alone." She pouted, at Nox who gave her a sympathetic look. "I think he's lost. We're pretty far away from where we met him. He's hiding under the wagon right now so we'll have to stay away from the wagon and be quiet so we don't spook him. Maybe he just needs some time to figure out where he is before he leaves." Cammie nodded and turned to her father and Sabrina, striding over and telling them with as much authority as a small girl could muster that they must be calm and quiet so they didn't scare the pokemon.

Nox
Nox joined Cammie, Gavin and Sabrina a moment later and the group started a fire and began setting up little cloth dens. The Pansear peeked out at them from under the wagon but didn't dare get closer. But as the humans settled in around their fire and began cooking, the smell of delicious food and the promise of warmth was ever so tempting. But fear kept him where he was. There were too many humans over there for him to feel comfortable approaching them. So he stayed put and he watched while his tummy rumbled. After they ate, the humans relaxed where they were, letting their tamed pokemon out to play. There was the water type from before, the beasts that had been pulling the mobile dens and a predatory fire type. When the predator caught his scent and started moving over toward his hiding place, Pansear panicked. But the dark haired human, the one he'd identified as the leader, made the older female human call the canine back to her. Eventually darkness closed in around them and the humans retreated into their strange cloth dens, putting their pokemon in those strange little orbs. All except for the leader. That male stayed by the fire as night fell and fog began to roll in.

Normally Pansear would make a nest up in the trees to sleep but he was too afraid to go into the forest. Even if he did, the fog had rolled in and he knew he wouldn't be able to find his way in the dark. He shivered and glanced above him. He could go back inside this wooden den. Or maybe sleep on top of it. But it was dark and cold and he was hungry. The smell of something delicious drew his attention and he glanced back at the human. He was roasting a berry over the fire and Pansear's mouth watered. That looked delicious. He remembered when the older Pansear or even the elder Simisear would roast berries like that in their troop. They always tasted much better like that. But he couldn't use fire yet and he'd had to eat cold berries ever since he'd been separated from his troop. Hunger won out over fear and Pansear crept toward the light of the fire, circling around the human to sit a short distance away. His gaze focused on the berry as it cooked and he made a couple soft hoots when he determined that it was cooked just so. Whether the human understood or he knew how to tell when a berry was cooked just right Pansear didn't know but he pulled the berry from the fire and pointed the stick at him. Pansear's eyes went wide and he looked from the berry to the human and back again. His stomach rumbled again and, before he could change his mind, he swiped the berry from the end of the stick and took a hearty bite.

Pansear thought he had never tasted anything so delicious in his entire life. This human troop was strange but so far they hadn't tried to hurt him or anything. They hadn't even tried to chase him off which some humans did if he got close to their movable wooden dens. This one in particular seemed...kind. He'd offered to share food that any other pokemon (or human in Pansear's experience) would have kept for themselves. As Pansear ate, the human let his gaze wander, searching the fog for any signs of movement that might indicate danger. pansear glanced around as well and shivered despite the heat from the fire. It was creepy and dark out there. Despite his better judgement, he shifted a bit closer to the human, seeking safety and comfort from the one he had picked out as the leader and protector of this human group. He made soft sounds as he crouched down and finished off the berry, gazing hopefully at the human's empty stick. Would he roast another berry perhaps? The human glanced at him and he gave a pointed glance to the stick. The human didn't seem to understand and Pansear gave it a small push toward the human with a pleading look. The human shook his head and made some sounds that Panser didn't understand before showing him an empty basket. The basket smelled like it had been filled with berries but they were gone now. Disappointed, Panser gazed out into the fog. There were berry bushes out there, he knew there had to be, but he would never be able to find them in the dark and not with this fog all around them.

Something dropped onto his shoulders and he jumped, startled at the unfamiliar contact, but saw only some human cloth on the ground. He glanced at the human who was looking nervous and a little sad. The human had a similar cloth wrapped around his shoulders and he picked up the second and held it out to Pansear. Pansear studied the cloth and the human for a moment before returning to where he'd been and taking the cloth from the human. It took him a couple tries but eventually he had the cloth draped over his head and used his hands to hold it closed in front so only his little face poked out. He chattered happily at the human who smiled and started making more sounds. Pansear didn't understand any of what it was trying to say but the sounds were soft, soothing almost. Pansear relaxed, feeling safe despite the closeness of the human. He yawned and his eyes began to drift closed. Before he fell asleep however, the human shifted and presented one of those strange orbs to him. Pansear glanced from the orb to the human and back again. Was this human....asking if Pansear would join his group? Wide awake now, Pansear's heart pounded as he considered what to do. The human seemed nice but why would he take it a lost Pansear like himself? A Pansear that would attack a youngling and steal food from the group like some lowly demon? And yet, Pansear had been so lonely since he'd been separated from his group and here was a chance to have a new group and to make a new family. He stared at the orb and clutched the cloth around his shoulders as tightly as he could as he struggled to make a decision.
