Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

This battle is taking place south of Crater, in the Lion's Plains. The grass is green and tall, a warm wind is blowing, and the wild Pokemon have been shooed away, leaving the area empty and ripe for a fair, uninterrupted battle. Feel free to use your environment to your advantage. Good luck, combatants! The deadline for this round is June 22nd.

Cynth vs Shae
[Jani & I have decided to go Modless ~]

There was a bounce to her step as the woman walked through the tall grasses, the wind blowing them and her hair. She was headed to the next battlefield for the tournament, and couldn't be happier about her opponent! Well, it was bittersweet having to go against a friend, but she was glad to know she'd be in good company at least. She and Cynth's friendship just seemed to be growing with each time that their paths crossed again. So, despite having to battle her to move forward in the tournament, she was happy for the opportunity to spend more time with her.

So her legs hurried through the tall grasses in excitement as a hand held back her hair. The young pichu was in her arms once more, the trainer preferring not to let the toddler out of her sight whenever possible. Besides, watching these battles was bound to be a great experience for the young one. They were exciting, safe, and between experience fighters. Everything she could possibly want the child to see, so that she could grow up to be strong and kind. And preferably, a master of appeal. After all, her shows were bound to be lit up with an electric type performing as well.

She got to her place, finding the space where the battle was to be held. Though it was a bit tough to get through the crowd. Her wide smile was showing as she navigated through, somewhat surprised by the large turnout. Not that she was complaining, but she hadn't expected quite so many people to show up. It was exciting! She was sure the two of them would put on a brilliant fight for all of them to see. She didn't know much about the pups that Cynth had these days, so she wasn't sure how the battle would turn out. But all that mattered was doing their best, and win or lose, they both would fight admirably.

Though, her pokemon of choice might disagree with the sentiment. She pulled the pokeball from her belt out, with the letter 'M' marked on the top with a faint purple stain. She activated the device, and the graceful bird swooped out of the ball. Her wings flew open, catching the wind and riding it. She looped around and made her way back, veering over the crowd's heads, before gently landing on the woman's shoulder. She used her free hand after having put the pokeball away to pet the bird. And there they waited for Cynth to show up, excited to get this battle on it's way.

Cynth
v.
Shae
[not-ice egg: 17][bab post: 5+]

The Lion's Plains was such a beautiful place. She didn't get out here often enough. Luckily, the tournament was the perfect excuse to put aside her work with Mrs. Mitja for a few days, and to go out and test her Pokemon against other Pokemon in a safe situation.

Cynth certainly wasn't surprised to see Shae here again this year. The woman was a fantastic battler, and had taken the entire tournament by storm last year, winning the finale with none other than a Scatterbug.

Shae was already at the battlefield, waiting for her. Thankfully, the other woman didn't seem like she had been there long, as she was just releasing her Pokemon when Cynth began pushing through the crowd. Unlike at the last battle, the crowd parted for her this time. She was grateful that she didn't have to push and slide between people, given the egg slung in a bag across her body and the snoozing baby bat sleeping in the armpit of her cardigan.

Her mind was a-flurry already, trying to build a strategy for the upcoming battle. Shae seemed to have chosen to use Mar again this year. Perhaps she was hoping for a victory in a similar style to their battle last year? Last year, Mar had beaten Trick... This year, at least one thing was different. Mar would be facing Indie. Indie hadn't gotten to participate in the tournament last year, and Cynth was eager to debut what was her most trusted and loyal Pokemon.

Still, no matter what Pokemon she used, they all had a distinct disadvantage against the Murkrow: the bird was airborne, and all of her Pokemon- except the baby bat that slept in her loose outer layer of clothing- were land-bound.

Cynth gave Shae a big smile as she emerged from the crowd and took her place on the opposite side of their assigned battlefield. She gave a bit of a wave and called out a greeting to her friend, and then added, "Good luck!" Even though she was pretty sure she was the one that needed luck. Then again, if any one of her Pokemon could pull off a win here, it would be Indie.

She reached into the pocket of her cardigan and pulled out the ball containing the female Rockruff, releasing her and simultaneously crouching to converse with her and tie the protective padding onto her. "Alright, Indie, ready for this? You're against a bird, a Murkrow," she pointed up at Mar, "so this will be tricky. Each time she comes down to attack, you need to hit her with something. Anything. Hit her at every opportunity."

Indie's expression and posture was absolutely focused. Cynth hoped that the canine understood.

"I think you have the right of first move, all things considered." Cynth called out to Shae. Literally, Indie could do just about nothing until the Murkrow drew close.

Then she dropped her tone and volume a bit to speak instructions. "Indie, start with Crush Claw if she gets close."

Cynth vs Shae

Smiling wide as her friend approached, the woman though it was nice that the people were letting her through. Given her disability, Cynth clearly had enough trouble getting around. She didn't need people making it harder on them, even if they didn't do it intentionally. When she'd taken her place on the other side of the field, she waved and wished her luck. Shae's curls bounced as she bopped her head to the side, raising a hand to wave back. "Good luck to you as well! I'm really glad you won the first match!" She had some worry after hearing about Cynth's opponent before the first round, but she came out on top.

Her opponent called out one of her dogs from their pokeball. From her demeanor, she guess this was the more tame of the two, rather than the one who was normally found being a little more wild. In all honesty, she felt that the well trained one would be tougher to beat, since she'd be more inclined to strategy. She was glad that her friend was bringing her best. The dark-skinned woman wanted them both to do their best against one another, so that whoever won there would be no hard feelings. As long as they both did their best and had a brilliant match, it didn't matter who won. She was just happy to be here battling her friend again.

She patted the murkrow's head again, the bird still on her shoulder. She spoke softly to the bird as Cynth started to put some pads on the rockruff. "Alright Mar, you know the deal. Keep to the sky as much as you can, and only close in to attack. Try to whip out without getting hit. As always, you'll be graceful and in charge of the battle, but we don't want to underestimate the pup. Who knows whether she has some tough moves to get you down or not, so be careful." With her speech over, and the others ready, she positioned her arm flat in front of her shoulder. The murkrow stepped over onto her arm, careful with her talons so as not to harm her trainer.

"Very well. Let's begin then, shall we?" With a flourish, she tossed her arm in the air. Mar lifted off of it, rising into the sky as she stretched her wings, the bird ready for a fight. She focused her energy, trying to inflict a sense of fear into the dog, as she curved high in the air above them, buying time until Shae would call a command. It wouldn't have a real effect on the battle, but the pokemon enjoyed making her opponents feel such terror before she would strike. Her powers were still weak compared to what she knew they could one day be, but she'd been honing them for quite some time. Her beak turned quicker than her body, looking fiercely at the puppy who seemed prepared and ready for her strike.

Anything she could do to throw her off would be good, Shae thought. For now, she kept the field clear, but she had Mar's ability to summon a haze to the field in mind. She'd keep that on the back end for now, instead driving first into an attack. "Mar, let's begin with Astonish!" It wasn't the strongest move, but the longer they could avoid the bird taking damage, the better. There was a chance the attack could cause the rockruff to flinch, which would be ideal for them. It was, strategically, the best move to start with.

The bird dived down towards the rock-type. It wasn't the best match-up, but she was overly confident, as usual. She swayed in the air, her body flowing left to right as she closed in, trying to make the dog unsure which side she'd attack from. She ended up near her left shoulder, and her body lifted for the attack. Her talons raised to rake at her body, and at the same time she shouted loudly, attempting to catch the pokemon off guard. She enjoyed the look on a creature's face when they were taken aback by this attack. The avian certainly approved of the woman calling this attack.

Cynth
v.
Shae
[not-ice egg: 18][bab post: 5+]

Cynth couldn't understand how everything Shae did was so sensational, but it made her smile. The dark bird and the dark woman struck a fantastic image, their poses and movements dramatic and purposeful, starkly silhouetted against the blue of the late afternoon sky.

Indie took a few steps out into the battlefield, but crouched down low as she spotted the bird circling overhead. Her mind paid no mind to the aesthetics of the situation, instead whirring with thoughts of battle. Perhaps she could hide herself somewhat in the tall grasses, blending in with the dirt, making it more difficult for the Murkrow to see her. Of course, she'd have to keep a very close eye on the bird, so that she could know when it was coming down for an attack. Like her human had said, the only opportunity that she'd get to land a strike was when the Murkrow descended, so she needed to be watching for that..

Sudden and unbidden, a memory overwhelmed her mind, crashing down like a wave on a beach, flooding her body with fear and adrenaline. In her mind's eye she saw a shadow cast over herself and the rest of her back. The shadow passed over once, twice, and then there were claws digging into her fur and flesh. She was lifted, taken, the ground dropping away from her at nauseating speeds. She fought- of course she fought!- growling and struggling and then she was dropped, and her lungs mouth and lungs were full of liquid and she lost consciousness despite herself-

She barked harshly at herself to shake herself from the fearful memory, and she pressed herself down against the ground, disappearing beneath the grasses. This was not then, this was now. She was strong and this was not a hulking predator hunting her in the wilds.

Attempting to shake the sensation that she was fighting for her life, she bunched her legs beneath her, watching the shadowy bird pass overhead, ready to leap. The bird disappeared from her sight, but she stayed still, watching, waiting...

And suddenly the Murkrow was on her, appearing almost larger than life, talons outstretched. She yipped in fear, but her body managed to perform the movement she had been preparing for, leaping into the air and directly toward the oncoming Murkrow so that her outstretched paws and claws would collide with the bird just before or at the same time that the Murkrow's talons raked over her.

The hit she took was a hard one, and it knocked her off balance midair, causing her to tumble so that she landed hard on her side rather than on her feet. The wind was knocked out of her, so she didn't move for a moment as she recovered her breath.

"Indie, over here!" Cynth called out, worry slightly tinging her tone. Indie didn't want to retreat from the battlefield, but she wouldn't disobey a direct order from her alpha. Staying low in the grass, she got up onto her paws and slunk over to Cynth, glancing over her should ever couple seconds to see if there was a bird (or the beast of her nightmares) pursuing her.

Cynth wasn't ordering a withdrawal, however, she simply wanted to check on Indie. As soon as the pup was close enough to check on, the young woman nodded her head approvingly. There was no limping, no favoring of any part of her body, and no blood. "Good, you're okay. Next time she comes down, try a Thunder Fang instead." It seemed like it would be trickier to land, the biting attack requiring more precise accuracy than something that could be accomplished through a collision, but the collision route hadn't gone quite so well that last time.

Indie, pleased that she wasn't being pulled from the fight that had only just begun, turned and crept back out into the middle of the battlefield, trying not to disturb the tall grasses as she went. The bird had a great vantage point, but the Rockruff didn't want to make this easy on her opponent. She ignored the dull but persistent ache in her side as she crouched and watched the skies, tracking the patterns of the bird's flight. Preparing her fangs for the attack that had been ordered and keeping Cynth's previous orders in mind, Indie watched and waited for the bird's next strike.

Cynth vs Shae

The dark type was pleased to see her aura having such an effect on the opponent. She truly enjoyed watching others writhe in fear before she struck - so long as she didn't inflict this on those she was not fighting, the human didn't seem to mind. She didn't bother to look at her trainer now, instead focusing on the attack. If she had, she'd find Shae giving her a bit of a warning look, as if suspicious but not quite sure that the bird was causing it. She dived in, the dog trying to hide within the grasses, using her aerial view to her advantage as her claws reached out for the attack.

What neither of them had expected was for the rockruff to leap out of the grasses and into the attack. But this did not faze the murkrow. She continued with her attack as plan, taking a bit of joy out of the pokemon falling to the ground after being hit. Of course, the attack she took in response was no weak strike to brush off, but she was focusing on the enjoyment. Another attack like that though, and she might find herself in trouble. The crowd and trainers would be able to see that the bird faltered in flight after being struck, dropping a few inches before regaining a normal, cohesive flight pattern. Dark, raven wings glittered with bits of blood from the attack - nothing fatal, but a clear temporary mark from the sheer power of the crush claw.

The worried the dark-skinned woman, but she couldn't simply give up now. As it was, Cynth called to her pokemon, apparently concerned about the hit she had taken. A new smile tugged at her lips at the caring gesture. "Mar, hold." The bird looked ready to fight, and certainly cawed her annoyance at being asked to wait. That did not bother Shae. If the woman wanted to check and make sure her own pokemon was still safe to battle, she was happy to let her. She could do the same for Mar, but she knew better than to do something that she would take as such an insult. No, the murkrow would prefer to keep fighting until she could no more, and the trainer would only stop her if it seemed too deadly.

Once Cynth was settled and Indie was back in the battle, the murkrow enthusiastically fluttered into the air. Good. It had only been one hit after all - what fun would it be if she'd gone down from the first strike? The pokemon circled as she normally did, keeping an eye on the dog who was trying to keep as hidden as possible in the grasses. If she hadn't had an aerial view, it would have been much more difficult to see him. As it was, the small pup was already making it a bit more difficult for her to see. How cowardly. She preferred an open and gorgeous fight, so all could see the battlers' prowess. Well, she wasn't opposed to being seen as the more deadly by default. She clearly was, after all.

Despite the bird's confidence, the woman had less confidence in the win. That attack had been brutal, and there was no telling what else the pokemon had up her sleeve to attack with. Mar was brilliant in battle, that was sure, but she didn't have a lot of powerful moves. Most of that she could do were strong, but not to the caliber of that claw attack. Additionally, her flying attacks wouldn't be quite as effective on the tough dog, so her absolute strongest attack wouldn't be the greatest to use. "Mar, Pursuit!" The black bird moved immediately, ready to attack once more. She swerved and circled in the air as she picked up speed, pressing her presence into the rockruff's consciousness. Then, she dived to close in once more, having picked up enough momentum for a quick and fierce attack. Her talons whipped out at the last moment, claws attempting to rake at the pup's skin for her attack.

Cynth
v.
Shae
[not-ice egg: 20][bab post: 5+]

Cynth was glad for Shae's unspoken support of her as she paused the battle the inspect Indie for injuries. Even though Shae was one of the most formidable opponents here, Cynth was glad to be facing her in battle rather than someone else.

"Get ready, Indie!" Cynth called, caution tinging her tone as she saw Mar circling and picking up speed after receiving Shae's order.

Indie, too, had heard the other human call out an attack. And not only that, but a strong, darkly foreboding feeling suddenly grew in her mind, and she just knew she was about to be set upon by her opponent. She steeled herself and forced power to flow into her mouth, small sparks of electricity dancing over her teeth.

There was no dodging the talons that came down at her a second time, but at least she was more prepared this time, knowing generally what to expect from the Murkrow. Employing a similar strategy as last time, Indie leapt at the avian, directly into the sharp, raking talons. Ignoring the pain as best as she could, she attempted to shut her jaws somewhere on Mar's legs or feet, or at the very least, scrap her teeth against the bird. If she did close her jaws on Mar, she would release the bird quickly, not actually wanting to crash the bird into the ground. She knew this was just a friendly spar, and it would not do to cause intense harm.

Cynth vs Shae

Mar soared in towards the pup once more preparing to attack once again. And, much like before, the dog decided to leap towards her in an attempt to strike back. Much as she had anticipated. The same strategy as before. It may have worked once, but she wouldn't simply allow it to happen once again. The sparks lighting up in the mouth of the rockruff were definitely something to be avoided, but she followed through on her attack anyway. All she needed was to aim just so, and get out of the way before this mutt could clench her fangs on the bird and bring her down. Electricity was just not something that she was interested in feeling, now or ever.

Her talons scratched at the pokemon with her dark power, the fear practically seeping out of the pup. She was pleased to see her abilities take effect. She nimbly flapped her two wings hard, taking wind to get above as fast as possible. And, luckily enough, she was able to get out of the way in the nick of time. The teeth shut, the fur on the canine's muzzle brushing on the bird's legs as she pulled away from the attacked, escaping from the likely devastating blow. Though she'd been confident she could pull it off, the breath that her human released didn't seem quite as sure. She chose to ignore the lack of faith for now. When had she ever let her trainer down?

With that, she rose back into the sky, cawing in victory as she narrowly escaped the blow, waiting on the next command. Shae hesitated a moment, allowing Cynth a second if she wanted to interject. If she did, Shae would hold once more on attacking. If not, she would move forward with calling the next attack. "Astonish once more!" Her voice rang out, clear and bright as it rose over the crowd, all of which were watching anxiously. It was clear that the murkrow had a bit of an advantage here, but she was still wary of that lightning attack the pup had tried to use. They'd gotten lucky that Mar was able to escape getting hit, but by the looks of it, that had been a majorly strong attack. And her weakness, no less.

The dark-type toyed with her powers. Though she still didn't have 100% control, she used these moments to get as much practice in as possible. So she focused her energy on the rockruff once more, poking and pulling away until the next command was called out. With that out in the air, she moved in once more, her circling being interrupted so she could dive in at the rock-type once more. She pushed to move quickly, getting cocky with the dodge she'd made, and prepared to strike once more. Once she got close, she shot straight for the dog, talons out wide to attack. Mar played to win, in every battle she fought. Her strength came from these wins, and she wasn't about to stop now.
