up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

Nox
Nox had just recently returned from Crater City where he'd taken part in a tournament held by the city's officials. He had only made it into the second round and had been doing fairly well until his Drifloon had been rendered unable to battle. After asking around, he learned that the opponent he'd been facing, a Paras, had a special ability that caused spores to release from it's body any time something made physical contact with it. From the sounds of things, Drifloon had been effected by the spores and been put to sleep. If not for that stroke of misfortune, Nox was certain the ghost would have defeated the Paras. But it wasn't the loss in the tournament that bothered him. It had been the words of the woman named Gem that haunted him as he made the trip back to Ashfield. Though he'd acted as though he didn't care what the woman had to say, her words were entirely true. He didn't have control over the ghost during that battle. And while he would never see the ghost's attempt to distract the woman as an 'attack' in the sense that it had been attempting to harm the woman, he still probably shouldn't have let her get away with it either.

So, although he did not like the way the woman had spoken to him any more now than he had when she'd said it, he was going to attempt to start addressing his lack of control over Angel and the Drifloon. He still had no idea how to go about it, but he would figure out something that worked for him with time. He was going to start with Angel because he knew what he could use as an incentive for her to do as he told her. He'd stopped by the home of a local hunter and purchased a pouch of meat scraps from him. Whenever Angel did something that he asked her to, he would reward her with some of the meat. It was, perhaps, not necessarily the best method of training but it seemed like the best place to start, especially with such a young pokemon. And the next time he ran into Gem he would prove to her that he wasn't the idiot she apparently thought he was and that he was fully capable of training his pokemon and getting them to listen to him.

So, he'd ventured out of the city and into the forest where he could release Angel from her pokeball and not have to worry about the residents of the city hounding him about the 'demon' he kept. Once he was a comfortable distance from the city, he released the Poochyena from her ball. She turned and growled at him and he frowned at her. "Enough of that Angel. No." He told her, she growled at him again. "Angel, no." The canine quit growling and gave him a bemused look. Nox pulled a small cut of meat from the pouch he'd purchased and tossed it to her. Unwilling to pass up the treat, Angel darted forward and gobbled it up. They were off to an okay start, it seemed. As Nox considered what to do next, Angel's ears perked up and she turned toward the opposite side of the clearing in which they stood.

The Poochyena didn't know what the human wanted from her this time. Every time he let her out he never did much, just followed her around as she wandered and recalled her into that stupid orb any time she tried to run away. This time he seemed to have something different in mind. Normally he ignored her growls but this time he spoke to her. She wasn't sure of the meaning of his words but when she had stopped growling he gave her a scrap of meat. She wasn't sure of the reason but she wasn't about to pass up the fresh meat he was offering. As she licked her lips and sniffed around for anything she might have missed, a rustle in the undergrowth nearby caught her attention. With her ears perked and nose working to identify whatever was over there, she turned toward the noise and took a few steps toward it. Who is over there? I'm warning you. This is my territory and I'll fight to defend it! She growled, taking a defensive stance as the noise grew louder.

As the man stood in the clearing, training his demon pup, things would be pretty quiet. Besides the sounds of nature of course with the leaves rustling in the wind and the sounds of chirping as they flew over head. One would think that the smell of meat would bring predators and that would likely be true eventually. Somehow, for now, nothing was close enough to notice or care. It wasn’t just that the human was in possession of this meat but a demon nearby. The pup was young but demons weren’t really great to be around.

When Nox and Angel noticed a sound coming from the vines and foliage, the demon barked a warning. She claimed that this area was her territory. It didn’t matter though, since whatever was on the other side wasn’t even worried about either of them.

The rustling stopped for a second while there was a brief moment of silence. It would be soon after that a brown round like object came flying from the foliage. Was it some kind of rock? Whatever it was. Immediately after the object landed in front of the Angel and Nox, an orange weasel like creature burst out after it.

“No miiine!” he hissed.

He grabbed hold of the round-ish object and tucked and rolled with it forward, past the black haired trainer and his demon. Stopping within a few good feet away from them and standing on two feet, the weasel glared at them as he held the rock with a possessive hug. “My rock, I found it!” he hissed once more.

Soon after the buizel had revealed himself there was a purple feline with cream accents and pink fur around her eyes. She also had to seemed to be a horned tail as if her presence as a demon wasn’t enough to warn you yo keep away. She popped out of the foliage with a wide grin, bearing her sharp fangs.

“Just because you saw it first, doesn’t mean it’s yours, you noodle rat,” she cooed.

The purrloin was spoke very seductively as she inched her way toward the buizel. “I’m sure we could come to some sort of arrangement to...share?” she asked.

Hearing her words, the weasel had no interest in what she had to say. Why did she care if he found a rock? It was his rock and it was a good one. Big, dense, and it floated! He could play with it in the water with his friends.

“You just want it cause I have it, nothing more. You wouldn’t even know what to do with a floating rock,” he snarled. The buizel was pretty sure he was not going to give up this object and he’d fight for it with his dying breath.

“Very well,” she scowled. “I’ll have to take it off your corpse!” the purrloin bared her claws as she prepared to attack the orange weasel. The two completely ignoring the human and his poochyena.

Nox
A strange object flew from the bush as Angel and Nox watched and Angel was about to take a step forward and see what it was when something else burst from the bush and snatched it up, hissing at her that it belonged to him. She bared her teeth at the weasel pokemon. This is my space, get your stupid thing and go! She growled, ready to chase the weasel away. Except that apparently it wasn't alone and Angel narrowed her gaze at her fellow demon pokemon. She didn't want the weasel there and she definitely didn't want the Purrloin there. But she knew she wasn't strong enough to chase both of them away which meant she would have to either give up the clearing to these two creatures, or team up with one to chase the other off.

Nox was inclined to leave the two pokemon to whatever they were doing since they didn't seem interested in him or Angel. But getting the Poochyena to follow him was probably easier said than done. He didn't want to put her in her ball so soon after rewarding her for not growling at him but he wasn't sure he was going to be able to pick her up without getting bitten. "Angel come." The Poochyena flicked and ear at the sound of her name but ignored him. "Angel come here if you want a treat." This time she glanced at him. He'd at least familiarized her with the word 'treat' and her name. But she turned away from him to focus back on the two wild pokemon. He reached for her ball, ready to recall her if things got out of hand, but didn't yet do anything. Perhaps seeing what she could do in a fight wouldn't be a bad idea. He had never actually seen what she could do and he should probably know what she was capable of. So he put her pokeball back and reached for Azura's instead. He knew the pup was young and inexperienced so he would have backup ready in case it was needed.

After ignoring the human twice, Angel was certain she would end up back in the prison ball and she even heard the human reaching in his bag. But he didn't do anything. Maybe he was waiting for her to do whatever he'd said. She had no idea what he might be thinking but as long as he wasn't telling her 'no' or putting her back in that orb, she could do as she pleased. She could see that the Purrloin was getting ready to attack the pokemon with the strange rock and she growled, turning on the rival demon. No! This is mine. My territory, my pack! You leave us alone. Even though she hated to claim the human and the orange pokemon as 'pack' she knew that by doing so she would have the advantage of numbers over the Purrloin. A pack meant backup and safety. If the purrloin believed her bluff, it might reconsider attacking any of them. But, just in case, the young Poochyena howled as if summoning more of her pack from elsewhere in the forest. Even though she knew she was unlikely to get an answer, it helped her feel more confident and like she was stronger with her 'pack' behind her.

Whatever the human and demon were doing was of no concern to the two wild pokemon who were fighting over the so called rock. It was rather large and heavy, so it was odd that the buizel was so obsessed with it. The orange weasel just wanted to take the rock back to his pond where he could swim and play and not be disturbed by pesky demons.

This purrloin was preparing to sink her claws into the weasel until she spotted the young pup reveal himself to the two. She came over barking about how this was her territory and that this rock was hers. Was she trying to defend this weasel? This baby demon? She was barely old enough to be a threat to the cat and she dared claim territory in her forest?

The demon cat chuckled. "Oh sweet heart, why don't you go chase your tail or something. The big kids are playing here," the purrloin replied.

Buizel was confused as to why the poochyena thought she could help but if they worked together then they could chase away this thieving demon. That didn't make the buizel part of any pack but he never denied friends. He was actually a very social pokemon but he was also possessive of his toys.

"Fine you can help," said the buizel. "But you're not getting my rock either!"

The howl that came from the poochyena didn't do much in attempting to freighten the cat, if that's what it was trying to do but it seemed that it did hype up the dog into thinking she stood a chance. "Okay well let's see how well you do in protecting your 'pack'," the feline purred. She charged forward with her claw out to scratch the buizel.

The weasel rolled back as the demon's claws scraped against his arm. She was trying to get him to let go of the big rock. Having the demon close to him, he opened his mouth to release a sonic boom. The sound wave shot the feline backward as she rolled in the damp grass.

Nox
Angel growled at the other demon's taunts. Chase her tail? Like some puppy? Sure she was still young but she didn't do stuff like chase her tail! At least the Buizel was okay with being part of her imaginary pack and she shot him a brief look. I don't want your rock.I just want to get rid of that cat. She barked at him. Once they got rid of the cat, she would let the Buizel leave on his own. It seemed fair to her. Then she would have the little clearing all to herself again. Well, she'd still have to share it with the stupid human but that was better than sharing it with these two random pokemon. Especially since they might try to steal the meat the human was feeding her if they knew he had it.

The Purrloin attacked, swiping at the weasel with her claws, and the Buizel used a move to knock her away from him again. Angel hesitated, her confidence waning some. These two were both stronger than she was. Her instincts told her to protect her chosen territory, no matter how small; but they also told her to flee from a fight she knew she couldn't win. "Come on Angel, we can do this. Let's show that cat whan we can do." The human's words were mostly gibberish to her but his tone was...encouraging? Did he...was he telling her it was okay to fight? "Go ahead girl, attack." She glanced over her shoulder and noticed that Nox was standing behind her, a pokeball held in his hand. But it was not her pokeball as he was not moving as though he was going to recall her. Instead, he gave a slight nod.

Though she was still uncertain of the human's motivations, she turned back to the Purrloin with a growl, leaping into action to attempt to tackle the feline. Behind her, she heard the sound of a pokemon being released from a ball and as she skidded around to keep her opponent in view, she caught a glimpse of blue that told her that Azura had been called out as well. The Popplio was stronger than she was and Angel was somewhat glad to see her. Azura blinked at the situation and listened as Nox spoke to her briefly. She picked up enough to know that he wanted her to help with the fight but that she was mostly there to keep an eye on Angel and make sure the pup didn't get herself killed. Nox says you're doing good but watch out for that cat's claws. She called, gaze traveling over the Buizel briefly before focusing back on the feline. She wasn't sure if the Buizel and the Poochyena could handle the cat alone and, despite being told to primarily stay out of things, she figured it wouldn't hurt to give them a hand...just in case. So she aimed as carefully as she could at the Purrloin, hoping not to hit Angel or the Buizel who was apparently an ally in this fight before sending a jet of water toward the Demon. Of course, if the Buizel or Angel got in the way she could not be blamed for hitting them with her Water Gun.

The purrloin could care less what the little puppy said. It didn't matter to her if she was a fellow demon, she couldn't stand canines. If she wasn't so focused on this buizel she'd tear her claws into the poochyena.

Neither the buizel or purrloin was sure what the human was going on about, but whatever he said, amped the pooch up enough to get her to attack soon. After he summoned another of his slaves to the field. It was a blue seal which didn't look like it belonged in this environment. There was beginning to become too many enemies to deal with. Realizing she was likely going to die if she didn't flee soon, she hopped in to make one final hit against the buizel, just so she could make a petty mark on the water type.

The weasel was so imbalanced by trying to keep hold of the bulky rock that he wasn't able to get out of the way. The scratch came for him and all he could do was take it. It stung badly but there wasn't much he could do about it right now. Thankfully the demon and seal pups were there to help. As much as he preferred for them to stay out of it at first, their assistance may have actually been a good idea.

Landing a blow on the buizel meant she was close in and vulnerable to be attacked. Especially when she was outnumbered. The purrloin felt the burst of water shooting her back from the popplio and soon after a tackle tossing her back. When the cat hit the ground, she was sure she was done for. Whatever, it really didn't matter. It was worth it in her opinion to stick to her point. The stupid weasel could have the stupid rock because he would soon be disappointed by it. It wasn't as special as he thought it was.

Lying on the ground in the cat looked up at her opponents. Did they really have to jump her the way they did? Just as she was sure the buizel was going to deliver the final blow, something came charging through the forest. Bursting through the foliage and vines a bigger pokemon than the others in the clearing appeared. It hopped over the cat and in between her and Nox's side.

A brown furred deer with yellow horns branching from his head. Looking down at the cat and then back at Nox's pokemon and the buizel, it stood with a focused look on their face. He trotted in front hooves as he began to speak.

"What is all this noise going on around here? Are you three attacking a defenseless victim in my territory?" the stantler probed. He demanded the truth and he had to, he'd lay down the law. These were his parts of the forest and he didn't appreciate bullies.

Buizel eyed the larger pokemon, fearing that it would begin attacking them. Not only was it larger but it was older and likely stronger than they were. If the human and his pokemon weren't careful, it could target them. He wanted to sneak off with his rock but it was likely that the stantler would attack anyone of them who didn't answer his questions.

Nox
By working together, the three pokemon were able to battle the Purrloin to the point of giving up. It lay on it's back a short distance away from them. Angel growled and considered giving it one more tackle to prove her point, or at least chasing it off, but a crashing sound stopped her and made her back off to stand closer to Azura and the Buizel. She stared, wide eyed, at the Stantler that burst from the brush near the Purrloin and proceeded to accuse them of attacking an 'innocent' pokemon. She wanted to growl and challenge this stupid prey animal for accusing her of being a bully. But it was much larger than she was and it usually took her whole pack to bring one down when they hunted them. She was just one puppy and likely stood no chance against those hooves. She hated the idea of being submissive to prey but what choice did she have? We were just minding our own business when these two showed up. I tried to tell them to leave but she attacked that Buizel. She wanted to steal the rock from him but he had it first. We were just helping him. Which was mostly true. She really didn't care about the Buizel or his rock but that likely didn't matter to the Stantler. What mattered was that the Purrloin had made the first attack, not them.

Azura, who had not been out of her pokeball at the time, couldn't give much extra information about who attacked who first or why but she knew her human. Our human wouldn't have had us attack for no reason. He doesn't like hurting pokemon or seeing us get hurt. If he asked us to battle it was because someone attacked us first. He only asks us to battle to defend ourselves. she added on, glancing at her fellow water type. If what Angel said was true, he was the one who had been attacked first and he needed to speak up or else they were going to be in trouble. Or at least the Buizel was. If Nox sensed that they were in too much danger he would recall her and Angel and run, leaving the Buizel to fend for himself. Azura wouldn't want to see that happen but there was little she could do or say at the moment to express that.

And, as Azura expected, Nox was ready to recall his two pokemon and leave. Like Azura, he didn't want to leave the little orange mammal to defend itself but his attempts at a training session with Angel were already ruined. Nox stood next to Azura and glanced at Angel who still stood away from him. "Angel come." Angel's ear twitched toward him and, to his surprise, she began backing away from the large creature and toward him. "Good girl Angel, come on. Just a bit more." He spoke quietly, allowing her to follow the sound of his voice since she was keeping her gaze fixed on the much larger creature. Once she was standing alongside Azura, he crouched down and gave her head a quick pat. "Good girl. You did great." He knew he should give her a piece of meat for listening but he was worried about what was going on and wasn't sure if feeding the Poochyena a treat right then was a good idea.

Angel hadn't wanted to listen to Nox but at that moment, being with the human was the safest place for her. She could run, sure, but so could the Stantler. And Stantler were faster than her kind. No, running would not help her if the Stantler attacked. Her only hope was that the human would put her back in that ball and that he could outrun the Stantler if it attacked them. She was only slightly disappointed that she didn't get any meat from him as he spoke and patted her head. She recognized that he was praising her and his reason for not giving a treat was that he was as worried about the situation as they were. She glanced up at him as he stood and she saw that he was watching the Stantler. She also noted that his hand immediately went for his bag and, sure enough, he had the prison orbs ready to save her and Azura if he had to. She growled at him, she rarely listened to what he said and she tried to escape but he was still willing to save her. It was...strange. She wasn't sure how she felt about it but perhaps the human wasn't as bad as she wanted him to be. She wanted him to be terrible but he wasn't. He cared for her, gave her food and water, he tried to be nice even when she wasn't obeying or when she tried to run off. She quickly looked away with a little huff. She wanted to hate him but she was finding it hard to keep finding things to hate about him.

Being a fair judge, the stantler listened as the poochyena gave her defense. The deer wanted to be sure he was going to punish the correct pokemon. Just because things looked bad here it didn't mean that everyone couldn't walk away without getting a hoof print to the face. Besides, he wasn't about busting up youngsters. He was really just trying to intimidate everyone into thinking he would. It helped when trying to interrogate bullies.

According to the demon pup, the buizel was the one who was being attacked first. The poochyena and Popplio were just assisting him against the purrloin who was trying to steal something from the weasel. The deer quickly turned his gaze to the cat who was lying on her side. She looked up with great fear in her eyes. She was worried that with more witnesses on their side, she would surely seem like the bad guy here. "Well! What do you have to say in your defense?" the stantler exclaimed.

The cat could barely get a word out as she spoke. "I-I saw the rock first! I came over to play with it and that stupid noodle rat jumped out of the water and snagged it!" she growled. It wasn't entirely clear if she was telling the truth but it wasn't entirely impossible that she was.

Perhaps things were all just a matter of perspective in this event but it didn't mean that either were wrong. The buizel hugged the rock tighter. "Lies! You weren't even around when I first found the beautiful bulky rock. I was just letting it rest there while I took a swim. I was going to play with it when I felt like it," the weasel barked in response.

Stantler was beginning to grow a headache from this childish bickering. He didn't know why these kids were fighting over a stupid mineral lump. Before he should tell them both to shut up, the blue seal spoke up. The deer wanted to her what she had to say. She claimed that neither her team or human would just attack a defenseless pokemon out of no where. They were the ones doing the protecting. Even if it were true, it was still possible that they did not know they were assisting the one in the wrong.

Still, the fact that they showed empathy for a stranger meant that they likely weren't the ones to blame here and did not deserved to be punished. This was between the demon cat and weasel. The stantler trotted over to the buizel who was gripping the lump even tighter. He was worried what the stantler might do. Taking a sniff of the rock he began coughing. "Disgusting! This thing smells horrible!" he groaned. "First off, this isn't a rock you hooligans!" the deer shouted as he smacked it out of the buizel's hands.

The bulky stone like objected flew through the air over to where Nox was standing with Angel. The rock spinning as it landed on the ground. The buizel shouted in horror as the object was stripped from his hands. "NO!" he cried. In the background the purrloin cackled under her breath.

There was a moment of silence from the wild pokemon as the saw the rock?...move slightly. Did it really just move on its own? Again the 'rock' moved. Suddenly something came bursting out the side. What seemed to be a foot, wiggled causing the object to rock back and forth. The buizel and purrloin were astonished by the discovery that their 'rock' may have actually been alive this entire time.

Another foot came bursting out the side along with two more. Finally the head revealing what seemed to be a turtle like creature. The shelled reptilian was rocking side to side on his back, as he let out a huge yawn. "Oh, man. How long was I out?" he groaned. His tired eyes looked up at the demon pup and human who were not too far from him. "Hey, mind flipping me over?"
