Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new world, and give it purpose.

Events

Terrene continues to heat
up, both in temperature and in conflict. Beta is asking for spies to infiltrate Omega's camp, while Dentelle simply wants to inquire after the scientist's progress. Later in the season, Beta is hosting his annual crater city tournament, where people can test their Pokemon and their leadership and strategies against one another.

Season

Summer will be here until
September. The heat of summer is here in full force, as well as the accompanying summer thunderstorms. Bug, electric, and fire types all thrive while others wilt under these conditions.

This battle is taking place on one of the sturdy wooden piers at Crater City's bay. The pier is a few inches over five feet in width, and it is surrounded by deep, cool ocean water. A brisk breeze blows through the battlefield, keeping it quite pleasant despite the summer sun. Feel free to use your environment to your advantage. Good luck, combatants! The deadline for this round is July 16th.

Round Four
Walking along the sandy shore, the woman looked out on the water, the ocean stretching off. This part of this area was similar to that of Oasis. It was a normal occurence for her to walk along the shore back in the desert, in order to ensure Lancet had access to some semblance of moisture. Though salt water wasn't perfect, it was certainly better to be in than the dry air. The main difference here was that this place had moisture in the air. It really seemed a better place over all. More organization, order, better living conditions, more people, more knowledge, more resources. Yes, it was certainly superior to where she was staying currently.

That wasn't to say she didn't have thoughts on how they could improve, however such thoughts were not her purpose here. The pier where the next and final battle of the tournament for her was up ahead. While it was unfortunate that she was not able to progress to the final round, she'd gained enough attention and time in the spotlight to serve her purposes. And she'd met a few unique individuals along the way. Though this was simply a match to determine who would place third, she fully intended to try to win and take whatever ranking she could get. The better she did, the more known her name would become.

Striding confidently despite her previous loss, she pushed through the crowd. They were accommodating enough, and it really didn't seem there were too many here. Soon enough her boot met the wood constructing the pier, and she continued walking atop it. She was stuck in her thoughts, trying to determine which pokemon to use. Though Caliper certainly was a capable fighter with a diverse move-set, this area was less than ideal. The pokemon was weak to water, and they were literally surrounded in it. So they were out of the question. Lancet was resistant to water, and certainly performed well in his battle. But then he'd had the tactical advatage of the trees. She wasn't confident enough in his water movement for it to be effective, and he didn't have a superb amount of attacking moves.

So that left Trocar. While he was certainly the wild card of the trio, he'd performed excelently in the first match. He'd been able to take down the large bug, and earn her way into the second round. In addition, he was not weak to the water, and would have much better mobility with his limbs both on land and in the sea than Lancet would. Yes, perhaps that was the best option. After all, he'd seemed almost pleased after winning the last match. Not with her, but as if his pride had been reignited since losing in the fight against her so long ago. Yes, he would be her best option, especially as he generally listened to her commands. Begrudingly so, but it seemed her win over him gained enough respect that he would heed her commands to aid in getting stronger.

Near the end of the pier, she would turn and face the beach, waiting for her opponent to arrive. In the meantime, she pulled out the pokemon and released her chosen pokemon, the mienfoo shaking his fur as he appeared on the wood. Why was he standing on this... whatever it was? Having lived in the desert his whole life, he'd never experienced wood. He tapped his foot on it experimentally as he looked around. Was this... the same as the fight with that overgrown bug? He shot a glare at the human woman who'd captured him. Though he displayed annoyance at being brought out, he was actually a little excited for the match. He'd thoroughly enjoyed showing that scyther who was better, and would look forward to showing his strength once more. But, who would his target be this time? He idly wondered as the duo awaited their opponent's arrival.

Ben Shepherd | Native | Age 15

Having been taking a beating in the last fight, Lucille was not going to be participating in this fight. Her muscles were still tense from the heavy damage she had taken and the static that stunned her body. For now, she'd be resting in her pokeball. Ben only had one choice for this fight and that was Birdy. Just like his tepig, the boy's squirtle wasn't used to battling and likely wanted no part in them. Still he walked at the boy's side to root for the bird.

Now arrived at the pier with the wingull on his shoulders, he was prepared to do this last battle and head back home. He wasn't going to have first place but he could at least place for the top third. It seemed silly to be doing so but any prize was better than nothing.

The boy wanted to prove that he could be the best of the best for this tier of trainers. He had to show his parents that he had come a long way from the boy would just do chores and whatever his parents told him to do. He was still that boy but so much more.

Not knowing who he was going up against, the boy didn't know what to expect. He just hoped it wasn't another buff electric type. He saw the woman who would appear to be his opponent. Beside her was a weasel that looked to be standing up right like a person. The last time he saw one of these pokemon was back in the tunnels with Soren and Vexel. He knew that it was a fighting type but he was unaware of its abilities.

It was a shame the wingull didn't have any flying attacks but perhaps being able to fly would giver her some kind of advantage. This was Birdy's kind of terrain and Ben only hoped she could handle it. "Good ta meet'cha ma'am. I'm ready whenever you are!" he said enthusiastically.

Round Four
As the boy separated from the small crowd, she took note of his features. He seemed very young, still a child yet on the older spectrum of such. For him to have made it as far as she had was impressive. Though there was a chance he had gotten lucky with the opponents he'd faced, she found that possibility unlikely. That aside, it was best not to underestimate one's opponent, less one gets careless and makes a fatal error. As they were both here, she needed to treat him as her equal as a pokemon trainer. She would not assume this would be an easy battle from his age. Any advantage she might have had from more experience or knowledge was severly cut by her lack of memories.

Her eyes flitted to the bird that accompanied him. Yes, this was certainly a creature suited to this battlefield. Though she didn't have any intimate knowledge on it, she had seen its kind flying above the water. Whether it had a water typing was unknown, but could likely be expected from their choice in living. Though still she wondered idly if Caliper would have been good for this fight, due to their affinity for rock against this bird. Nonetheless, the choice was made and they would make do with their current situation. Trocar was perhaps at a disadvantage, but neither of them would let that stop them.

The boy presented proper greetings, the woman taking note of his speech patterns. They were a bit off from what she normally heard, though not intonation that was unknown to her. "Pleasant to meet you as well. Then let's begin." The woman called in a confident voice, using enough volume so her voice wouldn't be drowned out by the waves. The constant moving of the waves were almost white-noise by this point, but such sound did require more volume when speaking.

"Trocar, Meditate before using Pound." The mienfoo considered. He tended to meditate for a battle anyway, so he didn't need her to tell him such. And it wasn't as though he really had many choices of attacks to use on the pokemon. His only alternative was something more specialized, and this pokemon wasn't using anything protective, so it was pointless. Thus, he focused deeply in meditation before rushing towards the bird. As he got close, he leaped up and tried to pound into the bird.

Ben could tell that this opponent was a bit more experienced. He wasn't sure what this weasel was capable of and it made him nervous. Birdy was pretty sure she had the advantage though. She could fly and this loser had to sit on the pier doing nothing.

The wingull spotted him doing what she could only assume was focusing. This would be a good time to swoop in and attacks while he was distracted. Unfortunately the mienfoo was able to meditate pretty quickly and while the bird was low, the fighter tackled her.

Birdy was knocked back and almost out of the air from the attack but was able to catch herself before hitting the pier. Circling back up into the sky, she figured it was best to stay out of range. "Birdy, hit it with water!" Ben called out. The wingull opened her mouth and fired a water gun at Trocar from above.

Round Four
A definite hit from Trocar started the match, even as the bird flew in to try and get a first blow in while he meditated. He was quick though, and she would always credit that to him. They just needed to work on training him to learn more powerful and diverse moves, and then he could become a much more capable fighter. Experience came first, as did strengthening the bond between them in order for him to listen to her more consistently. Once those steps were complete, they could work towards making him stronger more directly outside of battle.

The wingull made to the sky, something that would likely be the most troublesome part of the match. If the bird stayed high and was able to strike from a distance, they'd be at a severe disadvantage. It was similar to Lancet's battle in this tournament, where he'd been required to find a way to lure the drifloon to him. This time though, only the water and the pier would provide any cover able to do so. She watched for now, her mind racing to figure out what to do.

Unfortunately as the boy called out, it became clear that the distance would in fact be a problem. The ranged jet of water streamed and smacked into the pokemon's body hard. Well, that confirmed her suspicions that this species had an affinity for water. They needed to get out of the way, and somewhere the could lure the wingull down - but her only option for such tactic was under the wood in the water. The mienfoo wouldn't be able to strike sufficiently in the water, so it didn't seem the best solution. Especially when this bird clearly had a type advantage in the water as well.

It was quickly becoming apparent that the woman needed to focus on finding a pokemon suitable for competing against water types.

Trocar was momentarily frustrated. The dumb bird was sticking to the air and shooting from a distance. He didn't have any abilities that could allow him to get into the air, and clearly this pokemon wasn't going to come back down. He scowled, as the water struck him. He wished he could just climb the stream of water and sock this seagull right in its beak. But his attention diverted as the woman called out. At first, he was annoyed she was bothering him, but she laced her hands and moved a couple steps forward, looking between him and the bird. That was all he needed. "Up and pound. Come." The mienfoo dashed towards the woman, hating that he needed her assistance. But he was willing to take it if it meant having a better shot at winning. Without anything else to climb, she was the best option.

With her fingers laced together, she approached as he did. The fighter jumped up and landed in her palms. Just as he landed, she thrust her hands up into the air with all her strength, the mienfoo pushing off as hard as he could. This at least got him into the air, and if he was able to get in the air, he had a chance of pounding into the bird. And, if he actually hit, try to weigh the dumb thing to the ground. Though it was likely the wingull would just get back up in the air, maybe getting struck down would cause her to rethink the strategy and fight more personally. Assuming he even was able to land the hit, that was.

Ben was impressed with the strategy played out by Arshia and her fighting weasel. The pokemon was tossed into the air to get a chance to attack the wingull up above. Birdy was so shocked by the action that she didn't move out of the way in time to get pounded by the mienfoo.

She went falling toward the ground with him as he tried to weigh her down. The bird managed to shake the mienfoo off, however. Rebalancing herself, she flew into the sky and prepared to dive down and attack with dark energy around her wing.

Their strategy turned out to be a success, both trainer and pokemon pleased. The fighting-type dragged the bird out of her high placement in the sky as his body pounded into her. Arshia's lips curled into a smile seeing that it worked, glad that Trocar had been able to deem it his best shot at getting another strike in. Though he tried, the bird was able to get him offer before being dragged all the way to the ground. With that, the avian set about flying once more, though he knew that the strategy would have broken her confidence about simply mulling in the air with ranged attacks. Which meant she should try to get in close to strike, which would allow him more chances to attack as well.

But they both knew it wasn't going to be long before the wingull retaliated. "Trocar, pound if the pokemon closes in to attack." He really didn't understand why she felt the need to bark at him. It wasn't as though he had many other options in order to fight back. Still, he kept focused on the battle, eyeing the bird who started her descent. This was it. The wingull decided to dash in for an up close physical attack, and the mienfoo would meet her in kind. She attacked, using her dark attack to try and knock him up, and he immediately shoved in to try slamming his body at her, to pound the bird's body once more. The wear of battle was starting to make him a bit tired, but he wasn't done yet. It was certainly a good workout though.

(I don't know how I missed this post. I'm sorry it took so long!)
After taking the hit, Birdy knew she had to be careful. The mienfoo was not against using their human as a tool to get to the bird. He needed to keep his distance but still be able to attack.

It could get exhausting to use her water gun over and over but if it meant she would be able to avoid being attacked, then she would have to do so. The wingull flew out over the water but still remained in area of the dock. She blasted a water gun forward at Trocar.

The fighter was free to try jumping up her but chances were he'd fall in the water. Unless he was tricky enough to prevent that.

+1 Att. Ehhhh I considered using my dodge with your dodge but I'm gonna save it! Using Arshia to jump and then Pound [8%] on Birdy! Diving into the water and swimming below the pier to hide himself while he moves to where he'll surface [if we have time to post again, I'll announce where he comes up in my next post]

Round Four
The bird nimbly moved out of the way after striking to avoid the blow from Trocar's pound attack. It was certainly a good rival for the little fighter after all. She'd been concerned it might be too strong with strikes that would prove to appeal to the mienfoo's weakness, but it seemed they were having a rather even match. The bird seemed to think that this pokemon was certainly a threat as well, and as such acted accordingly. She moved out, no worded command from her trainer, and flapped above the water. If Trocar was to attack, then he would likely need to go into the water.

So be it then. The woman called to him as the water jet at him. "Trocar." She called his attention, to communicate her plan. Her finger laced and rose. A fist pounded on an open palm. Two hands angled and pointed down, moving down as well. Then, she stomped on the pier. Though the mienfoo hadn't puzzled out the entire plan yet, or decided whether to follow these ridiculous gestures, he wasted no time in the first. Leaping with her assistance and pounding on the pokemon. He dashed over and jumped, landing in Arshia's open hands and launching out with her assistance.

His body pushed over the pier, the water beneath him. So, the angle was diving. It clicked in his mind as he crashed into the wingull. This time, he didn't try to drag her. Once the attack was finished, he moved off of her and dove into the water. It was still somewhat shallow at this point, but his body was small enough to manage a half-formed dive. He made it in and swam back towards the dock. But what was the other piece? She'd stomped on the... pier! He swam beneath the wood and out of sight. If he was under water under the wood, they'd lose visibility of him. Which gave him an advantage - she would either have to come down to try to get him, giving him a closeness to strike at her with his fists. Or, she would have to stay up high, and be unable to attack until he came out - and with a few different options to come out at, he might be able to pull off a surprise attack.

So maybe the woman was smart occasionally.

Thinking she had the advantage by flying over the water, the miefoo repeated a past tactic but using his human to toss him into the air. The weasel came in quick, pounding the bird. Knocking her back in the sky, she still managed to keep flight.

This time, the fighter did not try to drag her down. Instead he dove into the water and disappeared from sight. The wingull was not afraid of going in after him but her only concern was the weasel waiting to attack below. Though it was likely, she had to risk it. Waiting for him to surface would be a waste of time, when she felt like the ocean was her element.

Diving into the water, Birdy was ready to risk it all. She knew she could get seriously injured but did not want to lose this match. The wingull couldn't let Ben lose again. The bird broke the surface of the water and found the mienfoo waiting under the dock and continued toward him focusing dark energy for a knock off.

She knew this meant she'd take a direct hit but she did it anyway. Whether the attack hit or not, she'd follow up with a water gun. It seemed silly to use under water but the pressure could still knock the weasel back. With this exhausting her energy, she'd attack no more. If she lost here then so be it.

Round Four
Trocar made it into the water, and the woman was glad to see he seemed to interpret her instructions. However, she wouldn't be given much of a chance to see if the last command was fully successful or not. She'd expected the bird to remain above water, not dive in after the fighter. How interesting. As long as he was below the pier, there was no guarantee that she'd be able to command him, as he may not hear her with the water and wood in the way. Still, she needed to try. They were getting close to the end of his limit likely, and there was no telling what the bird had planned.

"Trocar, dodge if you can and return the strike. Take advantage of her getting in close." It was a dangerous opportunity for them. The weasel likely wouldn't be able to get onto the pier while dodging the water-type dashing behind him, so it was necessary to do what he could in the water. She was confident he wouldn't give in without a fight, so even if he didn't hear it, she was sure he'd do what was necessary. The wingull dived nimbly into the water, chasing after her opponent with great speed.

The mienfoo wasn't so inexperienced as to keep his eyes off his opponent. Even as he dived into the water and headed towards the pier, he swam with his body faced up - to look out. The salt was uncomfortable to his eyes, but nothing so harmful as the dry desert sun. It was good that he endured it as well, since his opponent was diving straight in after him. He reached and wrapped his hands on the pole of the pier. He used it to pull and launch himself forward, and around. The bird's dark attack missed its target, but he wasn't expecting her to have the energy to pull off a second strike at the same time.

As he spun around the support beam of wood, the jet of water struck him. It wasn't as powerful as it could have been, something he credited to this opponent being tired, just as he was. This was certainly a worthy adversary, and he was pleased to be battling - but he wasn't ready to go down yet. He was feeling extremely tired and the pain was aching all around his body. But still he persisted. Using the beam once more, his momentum having been slowed by the water gun, he pushed off it hard with his feet. He closed in fast and smacked into the bird, using as much might as her could.

Neither of them were going to last, and he needed to breathe. Once the attack struck, he lifted to the surface and gasped for air. He took a deep breath. Trocar had stayed under for quite a bit, having been left with no choice. He needed out, and now preferably. But then he noticed the bird. She'd apparently spent herself in that last attack, or had been put down with his last attack. Either way, she didn't appear to be making any moves to get out on her own. He didn't blame her. He needed a long rest after this. She fought hard and earned the rest, he felt. This was a spar after all, not a fight to the death.

Awkwardly, he managed to carefully grab one of the long wings with one arm, while side-swimming with his other hand. It was slow moving, his muscles complaining about the effort, but he wanted to make it quick so he could rest. He swam to the shore, out from under the dock, and got to the shore. Arshia noticed the mienfoo, taking note of what was happening. The bird seemed out, and the fighter was clearly hurting and exhausted from his movements and expression. Still, he was pushing to help the opponent. Unnecessary, but it was good to treat strong opponents with respect, even in victory.

Trocar got on land, and got a better grab. He had both hands under the wings of the wingull, and tried to carefully pull her across the sand to the dock. At some point the other human would come over, and he would gladly leave the pokemon for someone else to take. Once the wingull was taken care of, he turned to the dock to see the woman coming towards him. He glared deep at her, the loss of energy deeply sunk into his eyes and expression. He still didn't trust her, still didn't feel any positive emotions in this forced companionship they had. But at the moment, he didn't care much. He wanted the sweet, peaceful embrace of that ball, and he could plan an escape after he was rested.

Arshia paid mind to the gaze. "Well done, Trocar. You fought exquisitely. Now rest." She wasted no time returning him to his pokeball, the pokemon more than willing to be returned to it. With that complete, she turned her attention to the boy. "Good match. Your pokemon is growing well, and proved an admirable match." She had no other words for him, looking at the condition of the creature that had lost the match. She studied them, and waited to see if he had more to say. She had no further questions at the moment, but wouldn't turn down a curious mind.
