Praying for an encounter free travel OTL

Arshia is paying a bit for the travel by the boat, both in her labor [helping with his fishing at the island], and from previous medical help she's given him for free in a desperate situation, but I understand if that can't factor into how much this will cost her. Not sure whether you want to do payment during this thread & on the way back, or if you want to just tally on the return trip, as he's coming to the island with her.

Setting Off
The woman pulled the bag off her shoulder, setting it down in the small cubby on the little boat. It wasn't much, a small sailboat that could fit maybe 3 people comfortable. As one position wasn't being used for a person, the two humans were using it mainly for gear. The fisherman had some of his supplies for his own purposes in it, and the woman set her compactly backed bag in as well, to try and prevent it from being at risk for falling out. In addition, the extra space seemed a good place for the young ones to sit, allowing them to be out and safe as well. It wouldn't do to have them fall out and be prey to the creatures of the sea.

The man accompanying her quietly opened and adjusted the large cloth tied up to the middle pole of the boat, which was lifted and fastened in place to hold. It was made to catch the wind and utilize it to propel the boat with minimal effort on their part, which was a good innovation that should allow them to make it to their destination rather easily - weather permitting, of course. There was no predicting whether they would get the winds they need, nor if they'd be in the right direction, but he assured they could simply bind the sail and row if needed. Two sets of paddles were strapped to the bottom of the boat if they needed them.

He grumbled something incoherently as he managed the knots in the sail, the woman looking down at the two pokemon she'd set down. The youngest of the two, a little mole that was called a 'Diglett', was still trying to get her bearings. She had just been born mere days ago, but the woman couldn't wait any longer on this trip. If push came to shove, she would simply recall the both of the to balls to keep them safe. But as long as she could, she would keep them out so she could study them, watching them grow and noting their habits and skills. It was important to keep proper research on the pokemon under her care, after all.

The ground-type creature seemed to feel almost lost when she wasn't in the dirt. It was the first trait she noticed about the mole, outside the obvious physical appearance of the creature. Even now, the creature squeaked lightly as she tapped at the bottom of the boat, as if trying to find the dirt that should be beneath it. Of course their wasn't, the boat on the water as it leisurely floated out, pulled by the waves as the man set up the boat to sail. She kept pushing around, slowly with small movements as the baby was still getting used to her own limbs. Digging, however, seemed to be innate. Even from the first moment her tiny claws met the ground, the creature was working on digging, apparently preferring to keep part of her body submerged in the earth whenever possible.

She continued to crawl with her short limbs around the small section of the boat she was allotted. The pokemon spent a few moments of exploring, small hands feeling the ground and sliding across it as if she was pushing it out of the way. She used this to feel around, as well as her way of moving forward. It was almost a digging motion, but without ground to actually dig through, it just became her style of walking. She wanted to find the ground, but her still fuzzy vision wasn't showing that their was any, and she checked anyway. She trusted her other senses more than sight.

She bumped into the thick yellow snake, the bright colors always showing well in the sunlight. Even when the clouds rolled in or it was dark, the snake was pretty easy to see with his coloration and size. Being pretty young himself, the creature bonded somewhat easily with the diglett. It was an interesting bond to see form. Of her pokemon, it seemed only the lunatone was avoiding the newborn, seeming easily bored by her presence. The others, for mixed reasons as far as the woman could tell, had all paid more positive attention to the creature and seemed to enjoy having her around.

She looked up as the man, Rob, cleared his throat. "I take it we are ready to set off?" She questioned, her tone even and calm as always. He raised a hand to scratch lightly at the non-existent scuff on his face. His shaggy dark hair got touched barely from it, reaching just past his ears in a dark, wavy mess of hairs. "Yeah. Just a few instructions before we go. I'll manage the sail, but if'n I need your help just pull on the rope here. Visually holding the part of the rope, he continued after releasing. Shouldn't happen, 'less the winds get bad. The oars on the bottom will be used if a storm is too much for the cloth, or if there's no wind at all. They just slide out, to keep the fastens intact. Just keep yourself and the 'mons in the boat and not making too much movement, and we should be fine. Hopefully the seas are calm, in creatures and weather."

He finished his little speech, the woman nodding dutifully as she took note of his instructions. Just as she expected him to listen to her on medicine, she was willing to listen to his wholesome advice on the boat. This was an unfamiliar concept to her, so she needed the information and guidance to ensure she was efficient in helping support their trip to the island in any way she could. The man was a regular in her clinic, often trying to trip further out from the village for his captures. Many thought he was crazy for doing so, but the man was passionate about the fact that only the small fish stay in the normal fishing zones. It made sense, his logic, because if the pokemon notice humans coming to the same spot, they'd be more like to avoid it. Plus, the deeper the water, the more likely he'd be able to fish up something bigger that could provide more food for him and his family.

And thus, his request for support in going to the island was easy to accept. She'd often seen it in the horizon, hoping to go out and see it for herself. Despite the rather short distance there, it seemed many of the locals had minimal knowledge on what was there, what it looked like, the creature that inhabited it, etc. And her curious mind was unable to simply let it go. So, when the opportunity presented itself, she willingly offered her help in getting to the island and back, with the note that she would be able to take some documented research while she was there. It would be a rather short trip likely, but any new information was a positive gain.

With the two on the same page, they set off towards the island.

@Kaien

Arshia and her crew would find that for beginning of their trip would be rather calm. The skies were pretty cloudly and the winds were blowing strong enough to help them sail. Sea creatures found no need to attack the ship or were curious enough to interact with it. Even those who would occasionally fly above would not seek reason to disturb the boat. Her pokemon would find a comforting sail for those who were out of their balls anyway.

It was only after a few hours that the cloudy sky would grow dark. Rumbling could be heard from above and the ocean waves were shifting more rapidly. The crew could feel the boat rocking heavier as the sails caught the strong winds that didn't seem to be in their favor anymore. It was not raining but it would be obvious by the shift in weather that it would be coming soon. It would be best for the crew to prepare.

Conditional Adjustments
As their trip started, the woman was pleased to find the first few hours of their trip were going rather smoothly. As the island could be seen from the coast, it was clear that they'd be able to get there pretty safely before nightfall. There might be hiccups further in, but as they were getting started nothing specific was jumping out to bother them. The woman took a deep breath, noting the strong scent coming off the water as the breeze blew, Rob adjusting the sail to catch it and pull the boat more quickly towards the island. There was always a chance the weather would turn, either with the wind stopping or losing the favor of the direction, and they would have to row. But until then, she could take advantage of the chance to study the waters below them and birds in the sky.

The two pokemon were getting along just fine, but Rongeur wasn't as pleased about the trip as the other seemed to be. She scratched at the ground a bit, undeveloped clawing not every creating a crease in the wood beneath her. She wanted her body to be submerged in nice, comforting dirt. But there wasn't any dirt. She tried to dig, receiving a shout from the man as she did so. It scared her, so she whined and started crying out from being scared. No dirt and a scary stranger was never fun. The woman took note and leaned over to lift her up. Suddenly arms were wrapped around her, and she felt a little better, quieting down a bit but still upset.

Arshia had decided to hold the diglett, as she was aware she was used to being surrounded in dirt. She figured if she could possibly recreate the feeling with her arms, it would serve to soothe the pokemon. She had no interest in listening to the cries, and it wouldn't do to have the mole possibly making a hole in the boat and sinking them. If this position calmed the young one, then it was preferable to leaving her on the bottom of the boat certainly. The man spared a glance, seeming to be a bit relieved when she did so. She understood. His career would be in jeopardy if he didn't have a bot to sail out to fish with.

Meanwhile Rasp didn't understand why the mole was so upset. He was rolling on the wood, enjoying the feel of the new texture on his scales. It was... weird. In a cool way. The dunsparce liked testing out new surfaces and textures by rolling on them, trying to learn about them and find the comfiest places to lay. The wood had a weird prickly feeling to it. His scales deterred any spliters from the wood, but it still felt the slight poking as he moved along the unfinished wood. Certainly not the comfiest, but it was still interesting to roll on for sure. The boat rocked a bit, and he sighed as water splashed on him, cooling him from the heat. This was nice.

It wasn't long before dark clouds were rolling in however, the winds starting to turn on them. They'd been sailing for a few hours like this, Arshia holding the diglett to keep her calm and Rasp slithering about the small wooden boat and hoping to get splashed as much as possible. Rob noted the weather change, and she'd been watching carefully and quietly as he eyed the weather and the way the wind hit the sail. Eventually it was bad enough that the wind wasn't helping anymore, so he started pulling down the sail. Soon it was dropped onto the deck and tied up to keep it from flying open and into the water. He pulled out the oars, and Arshia set Rongeur in her bag, moving things around her to replicate the feeling as best as she could. It probably wasn't the most comfortable, but the mole didn't seem upset about it.

He handed an oar to her which she took without a word. Rob wasn't the talkative type, and she had already asked him a million questions before. She had nothing more to ask at the moment, so she was content to sit silently as they traveled. The oars were pressed into the water, the man sitting now in his own seat, facing Gem. They watched each other casually, syncing their motions to ensure that they made good progress and didn't stray off course. The man kept looking back occasionally to ensure they hadn't turned, but Arshia was managing the boat well enough. It took a minute to get used to the motion of the oar, but it was a simple task she was able to master easily. And so they continued as such, keeping an eye on the weather as the island got bigger and bigger in the horizon.

@Kaien

Arshia and crew managed to catch onto the shift in weather and its effect on the sails. With the dark clouds already having rolled in, the thunder would follow. Heavy winds pushed at the boat and water. The waves crashed into the boat, seeming as if nature was trying to knock them over. The difficulty to sail toward the island would continue on until the crew made it through. No pokemon disturbed them especially with the way the storm was effecting the ocean.

Eventually the storm would end but the sky would remain dark. The sun would only occasionally peek through the clouds as the darkness rolled through the sky. This would continue until they were gone. The closer the boat made it to the island the clearer the sky became. Arshia and the others could see the island and it wouldn't be long before she landed on shore. She'd encounter no further trouble as she made it to Paradise Island.

[Welcome to Paradise Island]
