Welcome

Our old universe has
fallen into impossible chaos and destruction, but the Legendaries will save us; are saving us; have saved us. Soon many lives and memories will fill this new universe, this new world, and give it purpose. (Our site is best viewed in Firefox or Chrome.)

Events

It's the most wonderful
time of the year- meaning, the time of Delibird gifts and of winter festivals! And as always, our plot events are still going strong.

Season

winter will be here until
Aside from the western Great Forest, which is too warm, and the Desert Strip, which is too dry, snow begins to fall across the region. The chill of the season has just about every area firmly in its grasp. Ice and Dark types become more common as the temperature drops and the daylight fades.

 CYNTH PETALBURG

Cynth Petalburg
twenty - female - bisexual
Appearance
Cynth looks nice enough, but in her natural and complete state she would not draw much attention. Healthy dark brown hair falls just barely past her shoulders, twisting naturally into all sorts of odd curls and shapes. In the old world she would tie it back into short ponytails and braids, but in Terrene she mostly lets it loose to behave as it wills. Her long face is defined by a strong nose, light hazel eyes, and soft, unobtrusive lines and shapes. She is 5'5", exactly the height her father was and significantly taller than her mother was, though she can remember neither of them now. Though she inherited her father's height, her mostly average form with small breasts, small waist, wide hips, and thick thighs came from her mother. Also from her mother is her pale skin that will freckle or burn rather than tan, and her habit of smiling at anyone and everyone she makes eye contact with.

When it comes to clothing, she has never been all that picky. Her mother loved playing dress-up with her, before the Suffering. After it, there was never time nor opportunity. When she was brought to Terrene, she was wearing a somewhat ragged white lace tank, dark gray leggings underneath baggy dark brown cargo shorts, worn work boots that look almost comically large and beginning to fall apart, and an over-sized cable knit maroon cardigan with deep pockets. In Terrene, she does just about everything she can to keep this outfit clean and in good repair, especially the cardigan. She supplements this outfit with simple, nondescript clothing purchases in their various un-dyed shades of off-white, gray, or tan.

All these things lend themselves to Cynth looking pretty, but average, but there are two things that make her stand out: She is missing her right arm up to her elbow as well as her right foot and ankle.

Personality
Kindness, empathy, and charity are at the core of Cynth's being, and this manifests itself in many ways. The polite and soft manner in which she speaks. The way she smiles and laughs at just about any joke you tell, even if you tell it poorly and mess up the punch line. The quickness with which she apologizes if she realizes she is wrong. Her ability to listen to anyone, even the most long-winded people, with interest and patience. Many of these habits also hint at the fact that she very, very much wants people to like her, which she does. These habits could also indicate that she is passive, which she is... to an extent.

Personal conflict is not something Cynth handles particularly well. If you do something that bothers her, and if she considers that it is a pretty big deal and not just a minor peeve or inconvenience, she is likely to cut you out of her life entirely, and possibly without explanation. When confronted with something, she swiftly becomes flustered, her words get muddled and mushed and rushed, and her face gets red. Often, her natural reaction is to simply freeze and become unresponsive. However, just like everybody else, she does have limits and a temper, and also like everyone else, when her temper flares she tends to overreact. Because of her soft heart, the things that tend to make her temper flare the fastest are things she perceives as unjust or cruel treatment of the innocent. She also hates when people assume she is incompetent: many people assume that because she is often quiet and passive, she is unsure of herself. Sometimes this is true but sometimes it is not, and it makes her very angry when people try to boss her around. She is quiet and thoughtful and passive, but she is these things on purpose, they are not results or side-effects of being incapable.

Cynth is not particularly brave or daring. In fact, in unfamiliar or frightening situations she is quite timid. She often needs someone to push her into trying or experiencing new and scary things. Additionally, she has quite a collection of fears. In particular, she has a very childlike fear that she likes to keep hidden: she is afraid of the dark. This fear is lessened if she is in a large group, especially if she trusts those within the group, but nevertheless the fear is always there. She hates the dark. Additionally, because of her history, she has a fear of fire and fire Pokemon. She is also terrified of loud and angry people and anyone who has a short temper, she loathes them and will stay as far away from them as possible. Thrown in with all these fears are fears of heights and of the ocean. However, her fears do not typically cripple her, at least not for long. She does have a tenacity and a stubbornness within her, it is just buried deep. Quite deep.

In the old world, Cynth had a deep love of learning, particularly book learning. This love was quashed somewhat as the Suffering struck before she was even able to finish high school, but it resurfaced as a need to collect books and nearly anything with the written word on it, both in the old world and in Terrene.

In short, Cynth is someone who is stronger than many people realize, even herself, especially when it comes to mental strength. However, this is easy to miss because she has so many fears and because she often chooses to take on a pacifist's role. Her amputations also cause people to underestimate her much of the time, although Cynth herself is finding that it is not so hard to get past them, as long as she keeps the right mindset.

History
Cynthia Claire Thomas was her complete name, in her previous life. She was the firstborn of a military lawyer father and a jack-of-all-trades, stay-at-home mother, though she was born while her father was still struggling through his law classes in university and while her mother was still discovering who she was and what she wanted from life.

Claire- she went by her middle name rather than her first- lived a life that, like most everybody else's, was unique but not extraordinary. Her family moved a lot while she was young, when her father was fresh meat in Hoenn's military, from one base to another to another. She was home schooled by her mother during these years. Shortly before the time Claire was preparing to enter high school, however, her father had enough time and experience under his belt that his request to be more permanently settled in Petalburg City was acquiesced to. Throughout her high school years, Claire enjoyed puberty, zits, unfair homework loads and teacher expectations, and a high school sweetheart that didn't last more than a year because it turned out that he was gay. Such is life.

She had a promising life ahead of her, but when reality itself collapsed around them all, that future all but disappeared. It was somewhere between the last day of classes and the day she would officially graduate and receive her diploma, and when she was sane enough to joke, she would often joke about why the universe couldn't have waited just a few more days before ripping apart and scattering on the wind. Then at least she would have accomplished something in her life, before life as they all knew it ceased to exist. Once, during a rare quiet spell, her family (what was left of it by that point) held a mock graduation, complete with a fabricated diploma, which became her only material treasure and she kept it on her person at all times.

Just about a week before she was taken- or perhaps saved was the right term?- Claire became broken, physically and mentally. The day had been dedicated to scavenging for supplies, as she and her family had just entered Slateport and the group was eager to see if the large city had any buildings that hadn't already been picked clean. The group split up to cover more ground, as they usually did, and Claire was scavenging a wooden warehouse with her mother. It looked as though it had been a warehouse for a fish canning business, though the building had seen some rough times and they hadn't been able to make out any logos. Not that it really mattered; even unexpired tins of something like Magikarp would be a great find, no matter the brand. Food was food, after all.

But things did not go to plan. Well, they hardly ever did anyway, but this time, the universe struck them hard. A tornado thundered through Slateport, destroying many of the buildings that still remained intact. It seemed to move right into the industrial district where Claire and her family were all scavenging; but before it reached them, it hit a power plant and there was a huge explosion. Oil and fire both were thrown everywhere, but most particularly were thrown upwards into the air, and suddenly the tornado was a raging inferno. It crash deeper into the industrial district and before Claire and her mother had even realized there was a tornado in their vicinity, the whirling inferno was upon them, bringing down the shaky, wooden coastal warehouse down upon them.

It was instantaneous chaos for Claire. Metal shelves fell or flew through the air. Debris punched holes through the already unstable walls. Everything was on fire. She spun ridiculously in circles as she tried to locate her mother who had been just a couple yards away a mere heartbeat ago. The ceiling collapsed and everything went dark. But she was conscious, she thought. Her entire world was darkness and burning. It seemed she couldn't move half of her body. Where was mom? Mom?

"Mom?"

Claire was delirious when she woke up. Where was she? The world wasn't dark anymore, now it was too bright. And blurry. The sky above her was clear and blue, which didn't make sense. But her eyes wouldn't stop watering, or stinging. And there was such heat in her body she surely was still burning. Something cool pressed against her forehead, then cheek, then neck. That was nice. Was that Mom? She thought she heard voices, but they were so distant, and they weren't the voice she was searching for. She was so confused. Where was the fire? Surely Mom would come soon and help her lift these heavy wooden panels off of her.

"Mom? I need help,"

Her voice came out in naught but a whisper, despite her effort. These panels were so heavy on top of her... she couldn't see them, but she felt such weight on her, they had to be there. Probably one of the metal shelves was pinning her down as well. She struggled against the weight of whatever it was, but pain arced through right half of her body. She cried out, and the voices from before suddenly sounded more urgent, and they came closer. Claire was barely holding onto consciousness. She blinked her eyes repeatedly, but to her frustration, her vision remained blurred and wet. There were people hovering over her now, she thought, and they must be the source of the voices. They were familiar voices, though her foggy mind couldn't pin faces or names to them. They said words like tornado, shelf. Burned, broken, crushed. Arm, foot. Lost. Infection. Cauterize.

She blinked angrily, wanting to know what was happening. Her mind was moving too slow. Her head ached so badly. Everything ached so badly. Her vision slowly cleared, just a bit. Just enough that she was able to identify her mother's Pyroar standing over her. A smile flickered at the edges of Claire's lips as relief flooded through her body. This was good. If the Pyroar was here, her mother must be close. Perhaps one of the blurry forms from before. She reached out to pat the Pyroar, but had to stop halfway through the motion. Was something on her arm? It looked strange. Perhaps it was burned, that would make sense, actually. She squinted. There was a lot of shiny red. Chunks of white. And why did it bend in-

The Pyroar stretched forward and bit off the limb up to her elbow. Claire shrieked and passed out.

Her right arm and hand had been broken and fractured in multiple places; so had her right foot. Her mother's Pyroar had bit them off and had cauterized the wounds with its fire fang and heat wave. Where there once was limbs, there was a constant throb of pain. It seemed that even gone, her limbs were still ever burning. A ghost pain she couldn't get rid of.

But there was something worse. Another constant throb of pain, something now gone, a ghost pain, a loss that entirely overshadowed the loss of two limbs. Mom. She had been killed, probably instantaneously, by a metal shelf that had flown through the air, propelled by the fire tornado, and struck her on the side of the head. Her body had been found and properly buried, with a small service even, which was a blessing that many survivors did not get these days. But this was no comfort to Claire. The loss of her mother left an empty space within her far worse than the empty spaces left where her lost limbs used to be.
